Interesting articles:
Flash/AIR Winning over developers:

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/google…Flash 10.2 available on mobile in a few weeks:
http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/gizmo…Flash and AIR doing great on mobile:
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/a…I too have a feeling that by next year we will see Apple support Flash on their devices.. the new tablets with dual core processors and new GPUs plus fully GPU accelerated Flash runtime and terrific AIR will force them to do it despite all the crap previously said...
Exciting times for Flash devs.. we are witnessing some major shifts in awesomeness of Flash/AIR and performance as well.

I just want to say something from a subjective stand point..
These are all great news and Adobe is pushing Flash to whole new heights but don't expect to build everything you imagine just yet.. you will face a lot of performance issues and optimizations, lack of certain APIs and so on..
But with this being said, as a friendly advice, you have about a year to get into this new wave of mobile development with Flash and AIR. It's a great time to start and learn what can and can't be done and keep in sync until Flash/AIR truly blossoms next year.
A lot of tips and tricks, new GPU APIs, the way mobile devices cache things, how OpenGL ES works and how Flash runtime treats bitmaps and objects etc etc.. It's the best time to be at the forefront of this development and try things out.
Just 2 cents.
- what's happening next year?Ancillary
- by next year most of Flash improvments will be implemented. GPU acceleration, 3d low level APIs, Flash CS 5.5, AIR will gain a lot of native device APIs etc. Those are being worked on right now.Boz

- you mena 12 months away? Unity have been doing this for 2 years, why are Adobe allways so slow!Ancillary
- Unity is nothing like Flash and what Adobe is doing.. Unity is a 3d engine. What Adobe is building is something much more.Boz

Well, lets be fair here, the actual headlines are more like
Adobe SAYS Flash Winning over developers...
Adobe SAYS Flash huge...Their data points for that being that 12% of smartphones support Flash, and a grand total of 1,500 Android apps produced using Air.
Don't get me wrong, Flash/Air may well emerge as a popular tool for mobile development, but it doesn't look like that's close to happening just yet.

boz you're a flash developer?
- abettertomorrow0
I guess there's really two separate, pretty much unrelated issues ...devices supporting Flash plugin vs Flash/AIR as development tool.
Apple supports the second one but not the first.
- Boz0
Well sure.. Adobe says.. but they back it up with numbers that come from reputable companies, not their excel sheet.
They've broke through their initial expectations. Those 12% is not really a small number. It's actually pretty significant. (It's on over 35+ devices currently).
- Probably has to do with Android exceeding expectationsabettertomorrow

I think Adobe is actually frustrating a lot of developers with the lack of support/documentation for iOS. I've made a couple of apps using Flash and the only information available from Adobe on their Packager for iPhone is a small pdf. I had to trawl through the Adobe iOS Packager forums to piece together bits of information from other people who were trying to do the same. There's currently no support for basic ui kit functionality: UIWebbview, ie you can't open a web page, or Google maps API, ie you can't open maps or use maps in your app.
Other companies like Corona had implemented this ages ago, and they've got thriving communities, active help from the people behind the scenes and lots of documentation, examples. They want you to use their software/framework. Adobe isn't showing me that love.- btw you may want to look at this:

dude iOS packager was discontinued because of Apple.. it has cought up a lot with AIR for Android right now..
Yes.. UI controls are not implemented because in part it gives you complete freedom to build your own things however you want.. Flex Hero will have support for a lot of that stuff for hardcore devs who don't care so much about appearance and want to just build native looking UI controls. Flash community will build UI controls for touch and list view and all that stuff (it's already happening)..
There is web view in AIR right now.. it's called StageWebView class and you can open HTML5 content in it. Download AIR 2.5, download updates to Flash CS5..
You have not been informed properly. Corona is a joke. LUA based framework who can't do half the crap. Titanium Appcelerator is something that AIR should be striving for in terms of Flex framework but I like the fact that Flash CS5 and CS5.5 will allow you to build your own controls instead of doing generic default ones..
There is definitely a huge benefit having native control UI support but Flash is for creatives, Flex is the one you might want to look at and Flex Hero and new Flash Builder 4.5 will be for you.
Don't forget, mobile development as a whole is still very new.. even Titanium Appcelerator, PhoneGap, Corona as well as Jquery Mobile, Sencha or whatever are all very buggy and have their own issues or are in alpha/beta stages.
- btw.. don't get me wrong.. it's Flash/AIR is not perfect right now but a lot of things are happening and improving.Boz

Tried it on the Samsung Galaxy Tab... fucking atrocious speeds and most buttons didn't work until the 8th press.
Tested a whole bunch of sites, oh and the "this video was not optimised for mobile" is such apologist bullshit.
- sorryPonyBoy
- funny, i tried out a few of my sites on a galaxy tab and they worked perfectlykingsteven
- then again i'm not in to any of that 3d bullshit, and usually degrade layer effects based on framerate etc.kingsteven
- i guess the sites you viewed were optimized for modern desktops, that's going to change as the mobile market growskingsteven

Yes iphones will have flash by 2012. If not, they will fail.

iPhones have been doing quite good without Flash since 2007.

- Neh, I run into wishing it had Flash all the time.fyoucher1
- i bought some apps in 2007, and now i make em. but my iphone is basically a phone.kingsteven

The web is a boring place without flash.

don't kid yourself, the average consumer doesn't care about Flash THAT much
As long as there is some way to watch video, they're happy. Don't get me wrong, they do care to some extent, but it's not a do or die issue for the iPhone/Pad/Pod
- They care about how good their experience is. They don't know what Flash is so they don't know how much they're missing.CyBrainX

It would be a fine rally for adobe.
