Are you really comparing Flash to PowerPoint?
Really?
- animatedgif0
Tried it on the Samsung Galaxy Tab... fucking atrocious speeds and most buttons didn't work until the 8th press.
Tested a whole bunch of sites, oh and the "this video was not optimised for mobile" is such apologist bullshit.
- sorryPonyBoy
- funny, i tried out a few of my sites on a galaxy tab and they worked perfectlykingsteven
- then again i'm not in to any of that 3d bullshit, and usually degrade layer effects based on framerate etc.kingsteven
- i guess the sites you viewed were optimized for modern desktops, that's going to change as the mobile market growskingsteven

It's amazing that with all the resources at their disposal, Adobe cannot make any kind of inroads into figuring out a solution to this mess.
Here is my 3-part plan to save Flash, not that I care that much, but hey - it's fun:
1)
Just say 'all that old flash content created for high powered CPUs and a mouse, well, that's just not going to work on phones and tablets. Give up trying'
2)
Give up on video. It's just not worth it and they can never had what they had for a brief shining moment when almost all video ran through their shell. That's so over.
3)
Make Flash into a toolset that enables developers to produce great content for different mobile devices. Remember they whole thing they had where you could measure how much bandwith your flash movie was going to be? Like that, but here is what you need to do for iPhone, or Android, or whatever.....and make developers understand that the days of doing anything you want are gone. That there is a tradeoff in developing for different devices. If Adobe can just do those three things, maybe Flash can survive. If not, well someone out there is working on something that will work...probably already exists.
- I agree here. Adobe should really step up and make Flash more efficient and less hardware dependent.monospaced
- finally someone talking senseanimatedgif
- btw, I've been trying to make that argument for several months now, and people just call me retardedmonospaced

don't kid yourself, the average consumer doesn't care about Flash THAT much
As long as there is some way to watch video, they're happy. Don't get me wrong, they do care to some extent, but it's not a do or die issue for the iPhone/Pad/Pod
- They care about how good their experience is. They don't know what Flash is so they don't know how much they're missing.CyBrainX

It would be a fine rally for adobe.

Adobe screwed up. It's simple.
I have come to realize that Apple acted in self-defense by not allowing Flash on iPhone and iPad. If they did, the flash apps designed for high powered cpus with a mouse would have failed, and it WOULD HAVE MADE THE IPAD LOOK BAD. So instead of it being a groundbreaking device, the envy of everyone, it could have been seen as a somewhat interesting product that just really wasn't like a computer.
They were smart. Look at all the backpedalling Motorola and Rim are doing just because they are trying so hard to support flash. It's got to be embarassing.
If Adobe had seen the day of the mobile device coming (duh) they could have prepared a transition plan of some sort, but instead they fumbled, and it looks like, are still fumbling the ball.
- why not work together to make it happen? Instead Apple will "NEVER SUPPORT" ithotroddy

Why is it Apples responsibility to fix Adobes product CyBrainX?
If Adobes product isn't up to scratch (and from my experience using a Galaxy Tab and the reviews of the Xoom it isn't up to scratch) then Apple has every right to keep it from fucking up their product.
- I've seen Flash run will on Android phones. If a tablet can't run it then by that standard iPads suck not Flash.CyBrainX

I just want to know, who is going to come out with a good 'Flash-like' toolkit that developers and artists can use to create interactive content for mobile devices? I heard apple was creating something...someone has to be doing it.

Serious question, for Boz. I want your honest opinion on this, because it seems to be an important issue to you, you are well informed in these areas and you like predictions. So, please answer this, Boz.
RIM's PlayBook is launching on the 19th. It's a small, light tablet with great performance and good interface. And it runs Flash.
Because the PlayBook runs Flash, do you (Boz) think the PlayBook will be a success?

A lot of device manufacturers are putting Flash on their devices, which is great news for us Flash folks.
As long as people continue to develop in Flash, iOS will always be missing something. I have an iPhone and an iPad and I thought I wouldn't be missing Flash but I run into sites all the time where I wish iOS did have Flash so I can access the content.
These devices will be able to handle anything we throw at it fairly soon, so the whole "it's too processor intense" just isn't going to hold for very long. Obviously a lot of the sites out there that were built before these devices were out were built with desktop processors in mind and obviously the mobile devices performance will be like viewing the site on a computer from 2004.
Also, I love me a good 'HTML5' (jQuery, CSS, etc) site, probably just as good as a good Flash site. But even iOS devices don't run those fast, if they even run it at all. Slides and fades in HTML5 are super choppy, probably just as choppy if Flash was on iOS.
Please let's get over the whole Flash vs. HTML debate. There will be one and the other for at least another 6 years until some new tech comes out that will make both of these technologies obsolete.

Average people do care about Flash, contrary to what some are posting. The hype around Apple's boycott of Flash has gotten to the average person and, surprisingly to me, people are looking down at Apple. Clearly not enough to stop purchases, but it is a bad reputation they are building.
Apple will support Flash, at some point. They'll just go as long as they can, make as much money as they can, before opening up and giving choices.

You do not understand the issues. The 'average people' do not care about flash. They just want fun games and websites. If they get a similar experience on their phone or tablet, they will go there. Ever hear of 'Angry Birds' or 'Plants vs. Zombies'?
- sure.. but they have to pay for it. ... people want Farmville and other stuff but can't get it.. imagine what you could do on a tablet running a free game of on iPad without installing anything, paying anything and always a link awa farmville y. How is that not BETTER than dealing with apps?Boz

- i thought you wanted developers to make money?eficks
- well duh.. haha.. developers will make more money being completely open on the web then selling through 1 app store.Boz
- storeBoz
- Zynga is proof of that.. name one developer who made the same amount of money on app store?Boz
- zynga isnt just a mobile game developer. one could argue their success is due to facebook.eficks
- lol that's like saying those who write games can't make apps ;).. your argument is silly.. Flash+Game/App+huge exposure and openness is what made Zynga insanely rich company. Zynga wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Flash on the web for example and you certainly won't be able to do it in HTML/JS/CSS .. it's not MODULAR. you can't share it.Boz
