Just ask yourself this, do you like an iPhone, but sometimes wish it was slightly larger?
- slightly isn't quite the right word.kpl
- It does much more than the iPhone. I can't have a library of books to read on an iphone.********
- I couldn't sketch (properly) on the iPhoneribit
- I couldn't make myself look like a douchebag properly on an iPhoneUglyfreak
- You can get iBook (or whatever it's called) for iPhone. Your argument is invalid.Raniator

I love mine. it's amazing. I haven't used my laptop since buying the iPad. One thing that I really love about it is the battery life. Man, they weren't lying when they said it had a 10 hr battery life. I can go a few days without charging it, unless I'm watching movies on it.
I love that it's so light to carry in my bad and I can just whip it out whenever I need to check the news, a website, compose an email, add a contact, or add a calendar date. I've transferred every person I know into my contact list. Oh, and nthe iBooks and Google Maps is sweet too. I've gotten through 1.5 books so far. Normally I'm not a huge reader since it's kind of a pain in the ass to carry them around. I only have to carry a cell phone and my iPad on trips. All of my documents, photos, music, emails, movies, contacts are in one slim, lightweight, powerful device.
*shrug* I absolutely love it so far.

- I'm with you on this chivas. For non-work stuff it's great. My home laptop is gathering dust.JerseyRaindog

This thread from just a few months ago is pretty funny, especially the part where Jobs announced it to almost 100% negative reaction.
I remember thinking iPad was a horrible name, but it sounds normal now.

If you're going travelling, I wouldn't be doing any of the shit you want to do on an ipad. I'd be focussing on what's around me, enjoying the experience - not staring at any screen, laptop, ipad or iphone.

If you want a massive iPhone that you can't call people on, then it's for you.
I'm an Apple fan but I don't want one... that must tell you something.
- pretty much how I feel********
- And I hate Apple, yet I bought an iPad. Must tell you something.TheBlueOne

Anybody using it to show stuff to clients or is this just my fantasy?
- we've been using it at meetings, better than a laptop, more friendly and open. Doesn't put up a barrier like a laotop********

I did a pitch off it last week. I read my TV scripts off it, then showed a mood reel on it, looked at some favourites i'd bookmarked on youtube, then showed some storyboards on it, then emailed the client the script from it, all whilst sat next to them on a couch taking them through stuff, rather than presenting it at them. I love it.
At home, I get up, read the paper on it, answer email over coffee on it, work out household bills on it, look for a new house on it. I've looked at more photos of mine on it than ever before.
At work I make notes on it.
I bought the doc and these speakers attached via jack into the back of the stand. http://www.amazon.co.uk/M-Audio-…
With spotify and itunes it acts as my stereo, all CD's boxed away and in the loft. I dont have a tv in the bedroom, so it acts as one of those when the baby keeps me up at night and I have to feed him. Iplayer on it is epic. I browse the web on it of course, and when people email me PDF's I review work on it anytime anywhere.
I get GQ magazine on it and for reading its pretty good, although I dont think I could read a book on it, but then I tried Kindle and hated that.
I'm an ECD so I consume media way more though
The Cons:
I now have cramp in my little fingers from holding it with one hand (thumb and little finger front, middle three at the back). I need to find a solution to that.
Its expensive, and 32 gig is miserly
3G is pointless, I only use Wifi.
I carry to much now: 15inch MBP, iphone, blackberry and ipad. I need to figure that one out.
- u need to see a phisio therapist! too heavy and slightly too big.. get an android..SlashPeckham

"Well, the iOS is impressive for a phone, but a computer??"
They're computers.
Years back, when I had a Palm Pilot (and so did everyone else) I had a meeting with a client who used to be on a bomber crew back in the 50's. At one point in the meeting we both pulled out our Palm Pilots to save something and he said "These are amazing little computers.." and I said "Well I wouldn't call them a computer really.." He looked askance at me and said "Well, these things are about a hundred times more powerful than the targetting computers we used on all our bombers for two decades. We called 'em computers and they told us where to put our entire nuclear arsenal. How is this not a computer exactly?" I couldn't really argue, and the implications made me shudder a bit.
So yeah the ipad is a "computer". Deal.
- iOS is basically a visual overlay on a unix system undereneath.raf

I am sitting at a cafe with mine as I type this, sipping coffee and feeling power hungry, aggressive and totally non-altruistic.

I'll buy one once they support Flash (I know, I know, that's getting old, still damn true).
Competition is fierce these days. With the Android phones almost as good as the iphone, I am going to wait for the competition (HP's should be out soon, and, thankfully, they copied the design of the ipad to a t). Also interested to see how Windows 7 runs on one - if it works ok, then running my regular apps, even if it is only once in a great while, would be super (think traveling with an ipad-thing, having a keyboard and mouse for more detailed work but the ultraportable thing for taking to the coffee shop, for presentations, etc.).

Hilarious at how many responses are client/work related.
More stories about using one in a pitch, with clients etc please. I'm thinking about getting one for my agent.

www.flipboard.com is the only reason I want iPad
- there are questions over the legality of that app, don't rush out based on that alone!Samush
