So thinking about getting one.
I'm gonna do a lot of traveling in the next couple of months so was thinking of getting one just to read books, play games, watch movies, listen to music one during the transit periods.
Worth it?

How can I judge if it is worth it for you?

It's selling like hotcakes so it must be doing something right. Ignore the haters / LIFE LOSERS. It's good.

I would say you can't make phone calls on the ipad, but neither you can on the iphone so you are good man, get it.

I can only speak for myself: I own a laptop which is with me most of the time. Buying an iPad wouldn't make me leave my laptop at home... I'd just be carrying around more shit. Since my laptop does everything the iPad does and more... no iPad for me.
- actually my roomate got an ipad and decided he is selling his mbp, believe it or notMiguex
- Don't get that at all. Why did he own a MBP in the first place?ItTango
- That is dumbfounding.CyBrain
- he didn't really used it much other than itunes and email, 90% of people these days buy "because its better"Miguex

I think it's too small for at home and too large for my pocket.
And as for the music: it would be great if you could actually stream the music to your airtunes speakers! This is also the one big thing I currently miss on my iPhone...
- Maybe one day airfoil will be able to. http://www.rogueamoe…grymes

I've got one. While I can't use it for design work, and don't treat it like the mobile wunderkind it's touted to be, I do enjoy reading on it, despite the backlighting. Digital magazines like Wired are pretty incredible. So for me it will eventually become the way I read magazines, unless part of the magazine experience is the quality of print production. I don't think e-readers will ever be able to approach great printing on great paper for readability.

heres wireds latest on ipad

Look, I have a laptop, a netbook, an iTouch, and an iPad. They all do something different for me. They are fucking tools. You are not your tools. Only idiots and writers on deadlines make up shit like in that Wired piece. I'm amazed that if I sit at a cafe with an iPad because I want to read a book and maybe answer a few emails and check my twitter I am suddenly "wealthy, well-educated, power-hungry, over-achieving, sophisticated, unkind and non-altruistic".
However, if I pack up my iPad and pull out my netbook because I want to polish up some web code? Suddenly I am a "self-directed young person who look down on conformity."
Amazing.
What bullshit. They're all computers. Get fucking used to it.
You aren't your job. You aren't whatever stupid device you are using to do whatever stupid thing your doing.
The iPad is a very very cool machine. Is it "revolutionary"? Nope. Well maybe in terms of UI. Maybe. And it's a great travel machine if the only work you're doing is email and some short copy editing. But it is a great "companion machine".

- good job! you have earned the rank of consumer elite. Next level at 3D tv.********

I got one about a week or so ago after giving it a lot of thought, and I'm really happy with it as a travel/lounging around computer. I've been somewhat inconvenienced a couple of times by the lack of Flash and without something to prop it up it can be tiring or awkward to type or watch long videos, but a decent case or a small pillow will fix that.

I'd say it would be great for what you're wanting to use it for, IF you aren't using it for leisure travel. If you are traveling for fun, isn't the point to see new things? Would you rather be looking out the window of the train than at Plants Vs. Zombies? Would just daydreaming to music be satisfying enough with the MP3 player you likely already have? If not, then go for it! I did.
- Try travelling with an infant. Lots of downtime in hotel rooms. iPad is great.TheBlueOne

"Look, I have a laptop, a netbook, an iTouch, and an iPad."
Clearly what we really need is a device that morphs between different sizes.
