Watching Netflix on it is pretty cool. I thought it would be more comfortable to lay around with too. It is like a 1.5 pound brick on your chest.
- A good case fixes that. I agree about netflix thoughTheBlueOne

It's great for traveling. I bought mine just prior to a month-long trip in Europe and it was indispensable. If not just for me then for my 7yr old son. I downloaded tons of shows and games for him and it made the flights and car rides more enjoyable for all of us. Plus it helped when I took screenshots of maps of areas I'd be visiting for the day (I have wifi only).
Right now I'm working and have my iPad streaming Netflix.

I think of it as like a primitive version of where computers are headed. What Apple has been really good at is readapting traditional GUIs for use outside of the desktop (something other companies are surprisingly bad at). So in terms of stripping away a lot of the things you didn't need, it succeeds over a laptop for things like web surfing, watching movies, and reading.
At the same time feels more limited because of the touch screen input, the inflexibility of the case and the lack of computing power (none of these are really flaws, just technology hasn't caught up yet). I think eventually we'll look back on it as a kind of sign of the times like the Michael Douglas cell phone or computers from the late 70s:)
Also, I'd recommend getting the case too, otherwise I noticed you feel sort of weird carrying it around. With the case it feels more or less like carrying around a hardcover book.

id get one if i had $800 i absolute had no idea what to do with. im interested in other tablets though...hope they start coming out soon! i know not having flash will suck at some point if you had an iPad. but i can see laying on the couch reading or watching Mad Men with one. i wouldnt expect more from it than that.
btw, i played with a Android 4G Evo and it loaded a website of mine that had flash on it, played the flash no problem, except no video. apparently that will be in next release in august.
so i am thinking this flash thing is nearly over....these droids and new tablets will be playing flash and apple will have to cave in eventually.....anyway, that's how it look nows...we will see about this new release of android and the flash player....

i have been considering of getting one as well but i am looking it as tool for work. We are doing a lot of work for iPads at work so I feel that it is important to understand the user experience to achieve the optimal results. I would rather wait for the 2nd generation one tho... :/

My Experience with the Ipad
1. Really handy for music if there is none around, speakers are decent.
2. If it is not online is really crippled and 3G is another bill I don't Want
3. Cool for 2 player games like chess and checkers air hockey
4. Lots of little things can be improved but will most likely not for a while such as the limited functionality picture frame
5.The price tag is up there for something that will not directly make you money.
6.I can never get mail to work right on damned thing.
7.Battery life is decent
8.It does not fit in any docking station on anything that I have found.
9.you need about the same size backpack as your laptop so it is not really more convenient except that you don't need to bring a power cord.
10.It keeps costing you money as the you add more apps.

my ipad experience:
- netflix rocks
- flipbook is cool
- npr cool
- email simple as heck
- dropbox/bloomberg/amazon/keynote great
- browsing works
- battery life is really good i thought it would be worse
- NPR/Instabooks negates the need for internet connection
- i don't miss 3G connection as i'm always at home or work where its available
- just bought my first kindle book yesterday thru it. (Crush it)Its good for leisure use & companion device which coincidentally most people will use it for. Its not for development/design/3D/HD movie production.
Compared to a laptop its very portable.
I'm not a mom.
- that said, i really wanted to WANT a kindle. but I could not bring myself to buy that shit.sherm

I'm using it for life drawing, with Pogo Sketch stylus. Loving it. Finally a sketch tablet that goes anywhere. No more pencils, charcoal and paper to buy. Way more colour. A few more crashes. (lost 20 minute sketch tonight when SketchBookPro crashed :(
- Love the Pogo stylus :)defstro
- who would have expected a blobby end?ribit
- Could become the reason I buy one... But isn't that stylus a bit fat and clumbsy? Can you compare it a Cintiq?Sep
- I'm loving it for life drawing. SketchBook Pro fakes pressure sensitivity based on stroke speedribit
- and not having problems with precision... but main thing is it goes places I would never be able to take the Wacomribit
- ..just throw it in bag like you would a paper sketchbook.ribit
- Thanks.Sep

my experience:
- makes me want to read and do crosswords more often. But I don't like reading and doing crosswords.
- fell on my face a few times while holding it while lying down. Doesn't hurt much but it is very humiliating.
- its very portable, but I don't carry it anywhere because I'm afraid people will think i'm a smug apple douchebag fanboy.
- I mostly use it to look at funny pictures on the Pic of the Day thread.

I will be discussing web design style and requirements with a client later this week and I know he would be impressed if I showed him samples on the ipad (which only has been sold in Ireland for 5 days). He already told me with pride he has a large iMac.
This, or I'll come up with a better excuse to buy one.
