I think of it as like a primitive version of where computers are headed. What Apple has been really good at is readapting traditional GUIs for use outside of the desktop (something other companies are surprisingly bad at). So in terms of stripping away a lot of the things you didn't need, it succeeds over a laptop for things like web surfing, watching movies, and reading.
At the same time feels more limited because of the touch screen input, the inflexibility of the case and the lack of computing power (none of these are really flaws, just technology hasn't caught up yet). I think eventually we'll look back on it as a kind of sign of the times like the Michael Douglas cell phone or computers from the late 70s:)
Also, I'd recommend getting the case too, otherwise I noticed you feel sort of weird carrying it around. With the case it feels more or less like carrying around a hardcover book.
