Money is Evil

The world would be better it was not based on money. You can say that money could be used for good, but the overall use of money is generally used for evil or corrupt purposes. I had a 5th grade teacher who thought that the world would stop working if we didn't have money.
Currently we work to make money to put food on the table. However, the same money used for survival, is the cause of many wars and criminal activity. If basic needs were available for everyone, then there would be no need for money except measure trade for materialistic things. We would also not have "those people" continuing to plunder our governments and conform us to working slaves to keep them fat and rich.
People continuing to work for money is non-sense, when people could be working for better values. A doctor would work because he cared and was able to cure people, a teacher would teach because they want to teach, relationships would be driven beyond the need for money, but for love...
Values would change if we got rid of a system based on money. Money drives a warped sense of life and values. It prevents acceleration of man kind in education, healthcare, and overall leading and living a quality life.
But I guess for now, we have to continue to be slaves and watch the other half of the world die.

While i whole-heartedly agree that money, or rather people's greed for that money, is a detrimental factor to the ultimate goal of a world of peace and harmony, there are some things that need to be done that no one loves. For instance, do you know anyone who loves to clean up garbage, or human waste? If there are any, they are an extreme minority.
The sad fact is that technology and consumerism has led to a near stagnation of our social evolution. At the snails pace that we are progressing as a species in the area of interpersonal relationships on a local and global scale, it'll be centuries before everyone wises up to the fact that we'd all be better off if we all looked out for each other as much as we looked out for ourselves.

Money is (or at least was) a quantification of work and time. I think the main thing about money is its standardization (the ability for me to buy, say, a design off you but you want a goat in exchange..and I only have chickens—that means we couldn't make the transaction)

someone is having a serious epiphany,
when you'll be done thinking about the evil of money, take a minute to think about what is reality,
i personally believe it is better to have a good grasp of the concept of reality to understand the tricky system involves in making us slaves and addicted to money.
- fxone0
georgesIII would you mind explaining reality in one sentence please? I have a hard time grasping it myself...

@ locussloth. I agree that there are jobs that you or I might not be equipped to handle, at least for the time being, such as waste management. Many of our wastes are attributed to distorted values derived from money. I know there are people out there who can solve such environmental issues.

want me to send you my account number for a transfer so i can rid you of all evil?

@wrappedinbooks - money still is a quantification of work and time. But working because one needs to eat, basic clothing and shelter, should not be the basis of the future for anyone. Else you are creating justified slavery.
- Agreed, but if it wasn't money you were working for..you'd be tilling a field or feeding chickens; and that's hard workWrappedInBooks
- I don't think we would go backwards by getting rid of money backed with new technology********

@georgesall - the reality is that the world goes hungry and are unprivileged in education because of a lack of money, which derives evil and corruption in the world.

You give people to much credit if you think it is because of money that we do the things we do. It doesn't matter what form of currency is being used people will always try to have more than what the guy next to him has, it used to be a bigger cave or more goats now it's a bigger house and perkier tits.
Let's say we did get rid of money and decided that some committee would decide what your standard of living would be according to your job. I know right away there are a lot of people out there that would rank a designers job at the same level as a secretary where others would place near accountant. Which one are you willing to accept. To me it seems a system like that would create a lot of people shooting for the higher ranked jobs and being forced to take lower level jobs when the positions run out and in turn create a lot of anger and apathy. At least now you can find a way to make almost any job more profitable. It all comes down to what you do with your share.

As with most things, there is a balance. You can't have everyone going about only doing what they "love" because some of the things that a given society needs would fall by the wayside.
And you can't have everyone slaving away to make a buck doing things they detest because that would result in a general unrest, people would be miserable and driven to desperation.
What is needed is a realization by every person that you should do what you love but also that you have an obligation to the society you live in to give back, to help out. People need to make the correlation that when you do something for someone else, it's the same as someone doing something for you.
i think what you're talking about, whatsup, is changing peoples values, which is an extremely difficult thing. Peoples values are an extension of who they are and until we can move past the self-centered perspective that a majority of us hold and understand the value of our commitment to our communities, they aren't going to be able to transcend the "values" that keep them from bettering society. Now, if you'll excuse me, i have to go sell some veggie burritos in the parking lot of a Dead concert
