Good to see Adobe suddenly have something to worry about... Not sure why everyone is going on about HTML5, as jQuery is more powerful at the moment.
- JQuery and HTML5 are not comparable like that LOLquantelpaintbox
- one is scripting one is markupquantelpaintbox
- They are comparable as both are alternatives to Flash, but will be used in conjunction in the future, but not yet. LOLmust_dash

haha I like this link Georges posted

Steve Jobs on Google: "This don’t be evil mantra: It’s bullshit.”
On Adobe: "They are lazy. No one will be using Flash."

Google aims to start blocking Flash in Chrome this year

seriously fuck apple for suing HTC instead of Google for software patent infringement, I bet for a company that shamelessly copied u.i to get where its at, it is ironic

"Its crazy that apple users are the only one constantly finding reasons to defend their allegiance to a brand that keep on screwing them"
How has Apple ever screwed me?
Man some bs is thrown around when it comes to Apple.
- rams at x 10000 times the market price, $1000 = €1000 = £1000, etc, etc.... just know your comp and you'll see where you're getting itGeorgesII
- you're getting screwedGeorgesII
- yes because the Adobe CS4 MC = 2499$ = 2545£ = 3,272.40€.
much better...ESKEMA - so? i never understand why people give a crap about how I spend my money.inteliboy
- and the overpricing thing can be debated anyway... not that it will get anywhere.inteliboy

All my other non adobe software works beautifully, yet flash and photoshop etc... get more sluggish!

yeah, but that is a phone, where the internet stuff was new and so people accepted the limitations, since it was so cool that you could just do that.
and for an ipad, with which you are supposed to be able to 'hold the internet in your hands' (except of course for flash and java)
It is interesting that they show the NYTimes on the ipad (Jobs on stage) as an example. How will you view those cool multimedia interactive graphics they do at the NY Times using Flash? whoops! can't.if you have a situation where you can choose between a google product that is truly open source, runs flash, java, etc...and apple, which is proprietary, well, i think apple will lose a lot of people, and over time, a lot more.
there is a reason that Apple has 10% market share of computers, where for a time in the 80s they were a serious player vs. intel/microsoft. that same mentality.

I don't think we'll ever see it go away, just evolve.
We'll see it used more and more for mobile devices...and again...banner ads. I know iPhone and ITampon don't support it -- yet -- but they'll be a normal workaround/compromise sometime (there is a way to run Flash on an iPhone already). There's just too much content in Flash already for companies to redo everything in another format. Plus, everyone and their mom's mom already has this plugin.
JQuery can't do 'real' animation either (more than just slides and fades, like character animation and shit like that) and video takes too long to create and creates large file sizes which is prohibitive in mobile devices.
You can create an animation in Flash much faster than you can in After Effects too. Production is much faster. Making video's for ads or anything that's animated is just going to be too costly and too time consuming. You know how agencies always need shit yesterday.
Flash will get back to its roots soon, what is was originally meant for.
- I'm not understanding the Flash vs. AE comparison. Please provide linx/info.dMullins
- Speaking of animation production time...fyoucher1
- yes... flash's animation roots are good... the re-invention of the browser through AS3 code-o-rama isn'tvaxorcist
- also scaling up vector based animations has its uses...SlashPeckham

since 90% of my freelance work is flash dev. I'm guessing not anytime soon.

@ayport If there's a "killer app" for it then yes. Chrome does automatic background updates so if it's not pre-installed it's easy for Google to silently add it in there. Not sure if that also applies to the Chrome plug-in that runs inside IE, but I suppose the percentage of people using that particular setup is rather small.
As for regular IE, Safari, Firefox... If YouTube offered some sort of special content (not sure what it would be... videos playing on warped surfaces?) then users might download the plug-in because the all-authoritative YouTube told them it was cool.
Or there's just straight-up advertising. Google has the money to really push whatever they want to sell through TV, billboards etc. I don't think I've ever seen a browser plug-in advertised that way, but if they wanted to I'm sure they could. Additionally because they dominate online text-ads they could use that as well.
Will people download 03D if Google decided to push it? Not sure. But you can certainly make an argument that if Google wanted to force a plug-in on people they could.

Steve Jobs is more of an arrogant cock than I ever thought he was. The cost of re-engineering and adopting new technologies (that don't exist yet I might add) far outweighs any potential loss to Apple by supporting Flash.
He's turned into a bigger cunt than anyone at Google or Microsoft.
PS I own 2 Macpros, a MBP, an iPhone and 3 iPods and fucked if I'm going to fork out money for that iPad piece of garbage.

@spraycan. Google O3D does indeed support hardware acceleration. The plug-in installs its own Javascript interpreter to accomplish this. Read more here: http://code.google.com/apis/o3d/…

let's put it like this. adobe/macromedia have spent years working on flash os/browser integration and have substantial market penetration. their product has an extensive api which will probably grow to meet the demanding needs of game development and this is no small task. have you ever done any OpenGL programming? DirectX? It's going to take a competing technology a long time not just to develop a formidable alternative, but also a lot of time and money marketing the technology just to get where Adobe is today. And by the time they do, Adobe, who will have been watching their competition closely along the way, will be further along with their own answer to those competitors.
