@ayport If there's a "killer app" for it then yes. Chrome does automatic background updates so if it's not pre-installed it's easy for Google to silently add it in there. Not sure if that also applies to the Chrome plug-in that runs inside IE, but I suppose the percentage of people using that particular setup is rather small.

As for regular IE, Safari, Firefox... If YouTube offered some sort of special content (not sure what it would be... videos playing on warped surfaces?) then users might download the plug-in because the all-authoritative YouTube told them it was cool.

Or there's just straight-up advertising. Google has the money to really push whatever they want to sell through TV, billboards etc. I don't think I've ever seen a browser plug-in advertised that way, but if they wanted to I'm sure they could. Additionally because they dominate online text-ads they could use that as well.

Will people download 03D if Google decided to push it? Not sure. But you can certainly make an argument that if Google wanted to force a plug-in on people they could.

    • Makes sense. When I decide to use a plug-in it's always a debate and ask myself if it can be done without plug-in X.ayport
    • Took me a long time to even use flash. I remember when people were still downloading it as a plug-inayport
