That being said, i think you are partially right in that i think they have had a core story line, pretty much from start to finish, and they've been fleshing it out on the fly- Yeah, that's what I think too. Basics and crucial scenes are there, but the rest is all on the fly.juhls

"Rodriguez evoked controversy after being stopped by the police for driving under the influence a few weeks before her character was killed, leading to speculation that this was the reason for her character's death. The producers of Lost stated that Rodriguez was only interested in appearing for one season, so Ana Lucia's death was written in from the beginning. Ana Lucia was negatively received, due to her hostility and bullying, and many critics were pleased when the character was killed."

Abrams met, and Rodriguez explained she would only be interested in one season because she was a "nomadic spirit", but would like to do one "kickass" arc. In recent interview with Lindeloff and the other writer, someone asked if we would be seeing Walt again. They replied that basically "to say anything would be to say too much about that." So he's most likely still tied into this.

It's safe to say that this episode proves pretty conclusively that they have been planning this show out from the beginning. Or at least mapped it out and filled in details as needed, as mentioned above.

UNTIL
She pulled the psycho bitch nonsense in the jungle. And you could see it in Sawyer's rage too, that look of "are fucking kidding me?! We're both covered in blood and you're changing your mind??!!"- YEAH! could have done w/out those scenes all-together... they didn't 'feel' right at all.PonyBoy
