Does anyone really want the series to end with the plane never crashing and everything going back to normal? Is that the big pay off viewers want after putting up with all the craziness? Especially after it being mentioned every 20 minutes that it's what all the characters are striving for. Will it even be a 'pay off'?

It's not just going to go "back to normal". Even if it does, I'm sure something will happen where everyone actually still knows each other, or the writers will explain a few things anyway.

I want to see some of the people (not including the Oceanic Six) to leave the island and get to see the people they left behind, but I'm not sure the story has enough time for that. Either way, there will be flashbacks / forwards.

I like the idea that an entity such as a computer program or maybe a life form can be held or bound inside a magnetic field. It's not just a theory; your hard drive is a very complex magnetic field manipulated to represent binary data; this data is a program that if inserted into the right construct will perfrom a task. So the magnetic field on the island "stores" jacob and he can manipulate that magnetic field from within to appear around the world and as various forms. Perhaps he can only meld with specific bodies (IE being john malkovich) in order to take on a human form. Maybe the smoke isn't smoke at all, it's some kind of metal dust. Metal that can be aimed, driven, and moved by modifying the magnetic field holding it in place. Or something.
- Watch the show. The smoke monster isn't smoke. He's definitely a dust or ash or something.noRBG

I've been a huge fan of the show and like how this season has progressed.
I'm afraid, though, that the ending to the whole series, the big reveal, the big moment, will not be anything near what we've expected in early seasons. I think it will be a slow resolution to something that leaves viewers delicately satisfied; some slow closure that is wrapped up over the last few episodes. I don't think the final, very last episode will matter as much as the ones leading up to it.
I miss the early days of the show, the constant curiosity of "is there a monster on the island? are they dead? are they dreaming?" etc. Now we're in this very mythological progression of good vs. evil (I think) and I just don't know if it will really hold an interest as other things in the show did before.

Another thing to consider is that weren't all the Dharma people killed off by Ben and the natives?
Will that fit in to the last season somehow?

Also remember when Michael was unable to kill himself?
But when Ben is about to kill Jacob, Jacob says "you have a choice." So do we have a choice, or not? Does the loophole have to do with the question of free will?
Why did Jacob seem to egg Ben on when he was about to stab him?
Is Jacob even good, and the other guy evil? Maybe they just like white/ dark as a fashion choice.
Who were the people on the pirate ship? Where does the bald psychic who told Claire to give away the baby fit in?

The Nemesis can't kill Jacob himself the same way that Ben can't kill Widmore and vice versa. But i have no idea what that reason is. But what's interesting is the similarities between Nemesis gettiing Ben to kill Jacob and Ben having Locke (who then had Sawyer) kill Locke's dad
- I don't think the Nemesis can physically kill Jacob, whereas Ben could possibly kill Widmore. There just wouldn't be a storyjuhls

I guess I am not so much intrigued by the stabby stabby ending as I am the first few minutes, in which Jacob and his rival are sitting on the beach. That little back and forth between them is perplexing.
"Still trying to prove me wrong?"
"You are wrong."
"They come, they fight, they corrupt. Always ends the same way."
"It only ends once. Whatever happens before that...is just progress."I wonder if this all boils down to an argument over destiny vs. free will. Would explain Jacob's emphasis on "choice" later on.
