Catholicism is pretty much the dominant religion in my area. Most people I grew up with and so on. They do not follow what the Pope says at all. I have no idea why they still consider themselves Catholics at all anymore. Every single one of them breaks tons of rules, but then take part in things like lent and shit. Pre-marital sex, condoms, birth control pills. All strictly prohibited. Yet not one of them were virgins when they married. It amazes me, the systemic hypocrisy.

maybe true, but I see it first hand with people I know. they all know it is a bunch of bullshit but do it to appease their parents, who are just as hypocritical.

I thought Obama did a great job last night explaining why all of the major issues he campaigned on are crucial to a strong economy... energy, healthcare, education. All of these are totally interconnected with each other and our economy. Anyone who doesn't see that is just blind.

designbot - just so you know the EU president isn't really a president of Europe. When people say "president of the EU" they actually the rotational seat of the "council of europe" which is passed to each member state for six months. It is a funtional element of the European Union rather than being anything actual political significance.
In fact, The guy who made the statement, Topolánek, is/was the prime minister of the Czech Republic, and his government has just fallen after receiving a vote of no confidence from the Czech Parliament.
He is well known for making outlandish and, frankly, bullshit statements in the past.
although I do agree with not creating a protectionist system but not in the same way he means...

But I don't get how Obama plans to half the deficit by the end of his first term as he plans. All he seems to be doing is spending more and more money. Plus, wasn't a big part of the deficit reduction supposed to come from Iraq troop withdrawals?
