^ I agree, and by the way, the common American citizen had NO SAY is ANY of this spending. NONE whatsoever. Pelosi is in control. The ring leader in a circus of clowns.
- You really want common Americans making decisions on economic policies?IRNlun6
- Maybe they can vote on it after American Idol.IRNlun6
- Who do you think the government works and exists for?designbot
- IRNlun6, your statement dumbfounds me. Study American history please, then come back.********
- Just because the president represents us doesn't mean he should defer the decisions of qualified economists to common american citizens.IRNlun6
- ... american citizen.IRNlun6
- I'm dumbfounded by your response. You really want to base this decision on a vote?IRNlun6

How do you get to 7 trillion?
The bailout was 700 billion. Stimulus around the same amount. There were other smaller bailouts under Bush but I don't think it adds up to 7 trillion.
- ********0
$700B + Interest = $1.3T
And the actual deficit prediction is up to $9.5 Trillion. But who's counting?
And to think that Obama promises to bring the debt down to $500B by the end of his first (and last) term. That's a straight up joke.
- ukit0
Haha, your math is all over the place. The deficit prediction is nowhere near that - I think it's about 2 trillion for this year (which is still quite high). And Obam is talking about bringing the DEFICIT down to 500 billion, not the debt.

I love how you get so worked up about this stuff but you don't understand the difference between the bailout and the stimulus, or the debt and the deficit.

without putting words in people's mouths...
the only alternative I can see to government spending is tax cuts. (if a macro-economist can teach me something else...).
who will pay for the tax cuts?
(especially when so many people are losing their jobs, not buying homes, cars etc)- Just what the US needs in a time of crisis, war and spending. Less revenue.IRNlun6
- You say "who will pay for the tax cuts?" I say, "who will/CAN pay for tax increases?********

things move fast but not that fast :)
my issue with (blanket) reducing spending during a recession was because of an experiment by the UK government in the 80s. There are still areas of the country that are suffering because of that experiment. It didn't work then so I can't see how it would work now.
And I don't mean in the next month or two...

i thought this news article from 1992 was interesting...
"YESTERDAY'S drop in manufacturing output raises the spectre of continued economic decline. Far from bouncing along some imaginary bottom, British factories are facing an uncomfortable lurch down some unpleasantly steep stairs.
With home sales stagnating, exports dropping and investment being cut back, companies have little option but to attack costs, first among which is labour. The wave of redundancies sweeping through business is the result. Today's unemployment figures are expected to show a further rise of 40,000, bringing the total increase since March 1990 to nearly 1.3 million.
...................................The most important lesson is surely not to worsen the recession by tightening any form of economic policy: big public spending cuts, redundancies in public sector industries like coal, and tax increases, merely dig a deeper hole. Public works like the Jubilee line and the East-West crossrail would be cheap because building prices are a fifth below their peak in 1989."

Perhaps it will be better to look at the details....how are these things included in Obama's stimulus plan going to help stimulate the economy?
$50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts
A quarter billion dollars to fix State Department computers
$200 million to spruce up the National Mall
$670 million to rebuild restrooms and other buildings in national parks
$8 billion for renewable energies
$6 billion for mass transit
$4 billion for community activist programs
$2 billion for child care subsidies
$650 million for coupons for digital TV conversions
$400 million for global warming research
$335 million for STD prevention
- mass transit & renewable energies would both require construction / contracts / employment / development etccolin_s

(cont'd) here is where some of the big money is going in the stimulus:
Construction projects: $90 billion. Fund the rebuilding of crumbling roads and bridges, build clean water and flood control mechanisms and provide funding for mass transit systems.
Education: $142 billion. Rebuild thousands of schools by modernizing classrooms, labs and libraries. The plan would also increase funding for Pell Grants.
Renewable energy: $54 billion. Double production of alternative energy in the next three years. Weatherize low-income homes, modernize 75% of federal buildings and update the nation's electrical grid with a new, cost-efficient "smart" grid.
Health care records: $20 billion. Modernize the health care system by computerizing all of the nations' medical records in the next five years.
Science, research and technology: $16 billion. Invest in science facilities, research and instrumentation to create new industries, new jobs and medical breakthroughs. Expand broadband Internet access in rural and underserved areas.

Hey GetRefresh,
Let me say this: Fuck You.
I'm not engaging you at all because you're a waste of my fucking time.
I like how you insult me, call me a "dildo", talk about "my dad the milkman" and then try to belittle what you assume is my education.
And then you try to engage in some sort of intelligent conversation.
I don't think so. Doesn't work that way asshat,
Fuck you. You don't serve a second of my time or my thoughts. And lord knows I couldn't learn a damn thing from you. I'm shocked that act whop has it "all together" like you, has a family and runs a supposed internet social network comes onto another network and talks all kids of trash.
Real fucking mature dickhead. No, but go ahead, please come up with some clever little play on my screen name here. You know, shit that you did and worked so well for you, in what? Third grade?

^ And, furthermore, you and your mini-me, DrBombay are the one's who started with the personal insults and such. If you would like, i'll go back in the thread to prove it.
So, like I've said before, "don't hate the player, hate the game". The game that you and yours created here.
You want to call me names, and threaten me? Go ahead. I could really care less.

You could learn a thing or two from anyone, including myself. And, I feel that I can also learn from you.My social network that you refer to, The People's Lounge (http://thepeopleslounge.ning.co... is just a fun hobby. In one year, the network has grown to over 900 good folks, and I have, and have made allot of friends there. For the record, The People's Lounge earns ZERO. In fact, it cost me more than $100 per month, and my time to keep open and available to people to utilize and take advantage of. I am please to say that TPL HAS made a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
So far as my other businesses and 20 year career as a graphic designer are concerned, I am proud of what I've accomplished, and if I could do it over, wouldn't change a thing.
That said, times for me and my associates are the slowest in 20 years, but the last thing I am going to do, is expect a hand-out, or, ask the government for ANYTHING. The government can't save my ass, only I can.
Capiche?
