Your work is absolutely great , I have trouble believing you couldn't be making enough to cover expenses, pay down your debt eventually, and save up to move whereever you want.
Are your expenses super high right now? I thought it was cheap to live in Philly? Does your wife work?
- Thanks man :)
5timuli - i agree with ukit! you are a great designer._salisae_

My advice is don't go to the UK if you're starting from scratch. The UK is a difficult place to make money, standard of living is high and life is not easy there.

I think this is a good plan:
OKOK this is the planYou: go back to UK, your wife go to Indiana
You: find a job in UK or try to while your wife moves back home
You: get a job invite wifeCons: this may take a while.
My wife and I lived in separete countries when we were first married for a year. Yeah, it sucked, but it had to happen. We could do it again if we had to (right now she might prefer it as we're having a fight). It won't be easy being apart from your wife, but you have to think the best thing to get you back on your feet, and often times, it's not the easiest.
My main advice is don't have a kid right now (unless you already have one), that will make everything worse for the time being.

My wife doesn't work at the moment. She was pretty much forced to resign from her paralegal job as her boss was a cnut. She hasn't got anything since as we were unsure what we were doing (Uk or USA).
Even if she could get something for $20k and if I found something at $65k I think we'd be comfortable enough to get things under control.
Problem is, her resume reads like War and Peace and most jobs are under six months. Plus she hates working anyway so her attitude isn't always the greatest. She's had a run of shitty retail jobs and menial crap labor.

I hear you. I truly hope things work out, you have great work. I don't have any advice, as I'm only 22 and starting out trying to find employment, so I can move away properly.
You seem the kinda guy that will make it through. Hopefully that will be soon!
Best

I lived in Edinburgh from 1983-2006. When I left I fucking hated it. But when I went back it was great. I suppose I have a fear that I'd be miserable again after a month, but the fact I'd be so close to family, friends, the Highlands, plus I prefer the way everything works over there, I think I'd get over it. And my wife really wants to live here as she's only ever been here for three months.
Our total debt is not a lot by UK standards and could easily pay it off from over there. I was earning a decent salary before I left in 2006 and always had a lot of money left over. Since moving to the US I've been through all savings and racked up a ton more debt, the interest rates for which are all atrocious. Plus the 120% rise in healthcare in the last year and a bit is ridiculous (so bad that my current employer can't (and won't) put my wife on my insurance - that wold cost me another $500+ a month.

sent to doc, that should help you on moving back to UK. BUT you should always consult a lawyer regardless.
get a good one. I used about 10 different lawyers. AND the forums dont help. always mixed messages.
you know when you have good lawyer because first thing they aks you is "what you want to achieve" and they will give you an option.

o yah and that doc was from my lawyer... pricey but they were worth it. got a greencard in 3 months.

Shoot, sorry to hear about your duress 5timuli. For what it's worth, I wouldn't do ANYTHING to jeopardize my U.S. citizenship.
I hope you work things out as best as possible.

I'd stick out the US route for a bit. If your wife gets a job around there and you stick out your job for a bit you can save some money, and then think about moving. Look at cheaper accommodations, and ways you can cut your bills. Having to borrow money is a bad idea.

Move to California.
- 5timuli0
I suppose I've been avoiding the 'stay in the US' route but it seems like I might have no choice. Fuck, my wife's gonna be pissed ;)
Anyway, again, thanks for the advice. I'm going to try and sleep and think about it fresh in the morning. Sorry for whining and thanks for listening.

nono dont think that way, there will always be a way to move back to UK. mind you, you married a citizen, so things will be ok if you wanna move back. just read the doc and review my plan.
You: go back to UK and stay with parents.
You: find a job in UK or try to while your wife moves back home
You: get a job.
You: get a job invite wifeCons: this may take a while.
- Alright, sounds like a plan. I think. Jesus my head hurts :S5timuli

I think your first priority is to reduce your debt. $15000 isn't exactly a small amount. Not sure what kind of interest rate you are paying on it but with compound interest on the amount you own, you are getting really screwed.
even though the economy here is weakening, there's still a fair amount of work out there, especially in digital media. maybe you need to find a way to get more projects outside of Philly? Reach out to NYC and see if you can score some off-site gigs?

stimmers you have a pretty mouth and a sweet ass I am sure you can find a way of making some quick money.
Phone your folks beg for money, call all of the companies that you interviewed at and say that you can work for (the exact amount of money you need to survive on) for the first six months of any employment they may have for you then after that it would go up to the amount you deserve which would give them an incentive to hurry up and employ you.

Or if all your pals here included gave you £20 then a flight may not be that far out of reach. £20 quid people you spend that much on your dinner and a bottle of wine. You could pay them back over a year easily thats fuck all yo!, say you paid back 20 every two weeks thats 25 weeks which is £500 a year, fucking you'll have paid folk back in no time :D.......... anybody want to start this ball rolling.
