I lived in Edinburgh from 1983-2006. When I left I fucking hated it. But when I went back it was great. I suppose I have a fear that I'd be miserable again after a month, but the fact I'd be so close to family, friends, the Highlands, plus I prefer the way everything works over there, I think I'd get over it. And my wife really wants to live here as she's only ever been here for three months.
Our total debt is not a lot by UK standards and could easily pay it off from over there. I was earning a decent salary before I left in 2006 and always had a lot of money left over. Since moving to the US I've been through all savings and racked up a ton more debt, the interest rates for which are all atrocious. Plus the 120% rise in healthcare in the last year and a bit is ridiculous (so bad that my current employer can't (and won't) put my wife on my insurance - that wold cost me another $500+ a month.
