yes, and remember, send me files not urls.
also maybe try to create some prints. we are in need of camos, stripe patterns and geometric patterns at the direct moment.
the big push for the coming markets are all about prints and patterns.
can you create repeats?? this is the most important!!! i mean anyone and anyone can make a graphic, you just start with a circle square or triangle, but not everyone can make a repeat. i am one.
i can not create a repeat pattern, although i dont care to either.
its not my profession. but for you it can be.also dont send somethign we may have seen done in the past.
an example... a camo print can be many things... it doenst have to be cloud shapes... why not show something much more dynamic like perhaps "spark-plugs" to me that would be so cool!!!! or something else.
another example is this.. NIKE HAS A BACKPACK ON THE MARKET THAT CATERS TO ITS DEMOGRAPHIC CONSUMER.
its an all over camo-print but the image used is a bunch of guys running and the backpack is catered to the sports industry, its so very subtle but its also very saleable.
bring me something like that, something that is fresh and new.
if you come with cloud shapes i will just trash your resume and prints and not even consider you at all.you are entering a very competitive realm where the designers we hire bring this great newness daily without question...
be that, or be more than that!!! i know you can do it!!!
DO IT NOW!!!!
or else i ll call you a BIATCH!!!!!!
:)
- 5timuli0
Fuck, toughy. But 100% correct. I won't be a biatch no mores!

send me a link to your portfolio, we at my company hire print designers for making prints for our bags. i will forward your resume and print samples to my design director and ask that they give you some work, your rates are fine for what we need. the reality is we may need a lot. so this may be your way in. the sooner the better as well.
also we buy prints fro mprint houses that receive their art from artists around the world s oyou dont have to live in nyc to work for us or the print houses. do some searches and im sure you can find a lot more than waht you have seen and its a new path a new avenue and endless work.
did mention that the fashion industry has endless work???
that means endless paychecks...i dont know that new iphone and ferrari look really nice...
:)
- Endless paychecks? I'm in!5timuli
- cools!! the first best thing i heard you say so far.e-pill
- Yeah, sorry for being a whiner, it's too easy to do right now.5timuli
- oh yeh, wells i just checked my email and saw nothing.
you need to work harder!!e-pill - i got your email. pls send me resume and a few samples of werk. 5-6 pcs, not url.e-pill

Not sure what you mean by collab...I often team up with colleagues on projects, and it's always a collaborative process w/ the boss & clients...I just like listening to music while working :)
- 5timuli0
She's tried to get work but nobody will hire her, even shit places.
E-pill, I'm a print guy really, I suppose just an all-rounder, trite as the term sounds. I specialize in identity and branding and I like collaboration, not being shut off with headphones in a sterile "pretty warehouse" studio.

Do you know anyone in the design industry in Philly, outside of your office? I've found work for myself and even a couple clients for my employer just by networking and building friendships with people. Good friendships can often = good business.
Hard to do though, I'd imagine, if your heart is not in Philly.
- 5timuli0
Gramme, no room at the inn. Shame cause her closest family is in a nice part of NJ and the house is huuuuuge. Five bed with six peeps :(
I totally agree about Chicago being the best place for us, but we'd probably need to quit everything and move back to Indy first. We could survive for 4-6 weeks with no job but then would need a few grand for a move and a place up there. I don't want to borrow money but I've no idea where to find good paying freelance gigs.
- perhaps lower your rates.e-pill
- $70/ hour is very very reasonable for someone w/ his experience/skills.gramme
- That's what I charge, and I live in the middle of the frickin country where everything is el cheapo.gramme
- My break even rates are what I work at just now. Any lower and we're screwed (more).5timuli
- i hear the both of you, and i only charge a lil bit more than that freelance.e-pill
- e-pill0
im sorry stims i beg to differ. any work is better than no work at all to a potential employer. i dont believe in G-d as gramme explains, but G-d bless to the both of you.
but also to what gramme explains, yes the economy is bad but the fashion industry never sleeps, and is always looking for workers.
what is your speciality?? what do you like to do towards design?
i have a very strong network of friends in my industry and my recommendations carry a lot of weight as i have been in my industry for a long time. so lets start up a dialogue, you can email me anytime.
im in your corner.

Hahaha, ok boss, I'll have a look.
In my wife's defense though, she's not looking for a job here right now because we were looking into moving elsewhere to work/live. The last thing she needs is ANOTHER "couple of months" job on her resume for employers to think she really doesn't give a fuck. Once we know what we're doing she'll find something else. We're just stuck with a lack of funds and no-one to borrow from so we're kind of in limbo right now. It's hard to see clearly from all the shit flying around us.
- I hear you, and I know it's complicated. Will pray for you guys.gramme
- gramme0
Sorry to hear about this, Stim. It's a tough time to be looking for a job anywhere. You said you don't know a lot of people in Philly. Could anyone put you up for a while, provided you buy your own groceries and maybe pitch in for utilities? I've done this before, it's humbling but sometimes the best option.
Secondly, Look for jobs in Chicago. While doing this, pound the pavement and pick up some freelance work in Philly. At your rates, which are the same as mine btw, you could design a single ID program and have plenty of dough to finance a move, and then some. Chicago is the best bet for your wife and for your career. The midwest has thus far been less affected by the economy than any other place.
I think it may be time also for your wife to bite the bullet and wait tables or bartend. I hear you that her experiences have been bad; I don't doubt that, but when people make vows of marriage, implicit in the agreement is a promise to do one's part in making ends meet, even if it is uncomfortable. She can at least help relieve the stress. I respect you for being willing to pull your weight and then some, but it's time for her to pitch in...especially with the bad news about your apartment.
Finally, I have been in a position before where my life truly fell apart before my eyes. I've been fired without given reason. I've had to bail on a brand new lease without having spent a single night in the place. I've had to face being laid off from my first design job, days before my parents (i.e., place of residence) packed up and moved to St. Louis. I've had to move out here where I never wanted to be, with only the gear that could fit in my car, totally dejected, broke and humiliated.
Three years later I'm married to the woman of my dreams, I have a great job, a new house and my first child, a boy, will be arriving within a couple months. My point is that sometimes God – yes, God – lets shit fall apart on you, because he's trying to get your attention; because he has something better planned for you that you would not otherwise seek out.
I don't say this to preach; I say it to offer hope. God bless.

ok, i say this often and always people laugh it off.
go tell her to get a job in STARBUCKS COFFEE HOUSE.
they are in the top 5 in the top 500 companies world wide.
they offer some of the most dominating health benefit packages and its offered straight up and to part time employees too.this stuff i hear from you about her not wanting to work makes no sense as its only placing you and her in the red. why not suffer the initial hate of working that kind of job and gain confidence of just plain working will not only make her stronger as a person but will also tell potential employers hey look at me and my resume, im busting ass and ill take what ever it takes to put food on my and my husband's table. plus employers dont want to hire deadbeats, they want current working professionals. so i say you need to have a sit down with your wife and make her want this as her life is depending on it, plus you are both adults not children so make it happen for you and stop waiting on others for that hand-out.
sorry if that sounds harsh but it is something you and her need to hear. so make it happen and as everyone has stated b4 your work is dope!!! so start shopping out to NYC and why shop it out of your current industry?!?!
i work in the fashion/ garment/ accessories industries and we have endless amount of work... someone with your talents can easily work either on site or freelance for any number of companies that do something you arent so familar with...
check this site out for work.

i just read the initial thread post, and all i can say is why not just move to NYC, why go all the way to UK for an interview when NYC has plenty of work.
i can only say, best of luck.

So, um, here's a little update.
SInce I thought I was moving to Scotland I told my apartment complex I wouldn't be renewing the lease. Since things changed I went back in to renew, but they'd already let out the apartment. I now have two weeks to find somewhere to live. Except I have no money and all the shitholes around here are fucking with my patience and asking nearly $3,000 before I can get anywhere. It's either that or live in a cramped shithole on the corner of Stab Alley and Shotgun Street.
Fuck this place. Fuck. It. I might just quit everything and head back to live in my sister-in-law's basement in Indianapolis (not a joke).
- sorry i didnt read this till after i posted all. best of luck.
-ee-pill - Are you getting a deposit back from where you are now? I always forget about mine - good luck man.blackfrancis
