why is ALWAYS just about BLACKS or WHITES? There are other people here!!! What about the Mesicans, Hispanics, Asians. I think black people can be annoying, because they are SO defensive and have a chip on their shoulder. Like the woman in that video. Whoopie was cool though. But wheres the brown people on that show and asian.ok. bye!
- REPRESENT!!
LOLzsea_sea - And out of all of those groups, blacks were the only ones brought over here on ships to work for free.dauntilus
- because the rest of them where conveniently already here!sea_sea
- haha yea we were!redant
- First of all, there was an asian host on that show before. Secondly, you sound extremely immature.Jaline

listen, if anyone is offended by anything I said I am very very sorry. I love QBN and everyone who contributes on here daily. So in closing mean no harm to anyone who has different views about the word.

redant: I think black people can be annoying, because they are SO defensive and have a chip on their shoulder.
fucking wow.

IMO, when black people call other black people nigga, it is not coming with a sense of inferiority attached to it. The same can't be said when white people say it, unless you are joking with the person. A black friend of mine comes to our backyard family bbq's and he walks in and says "what's up, my pollocks?"
It is funny and he says it in a cheeky way. No one gets upset.
- no one at your house gets upset, but it's very possible that if another person of polish descent heard it7point34
- ... they would be offended7point34
- exactly, it is all context.mrdobolina
- just like if you had black friends and you said "nigga" to them. they might not care, but others would7point34
- you're related to Jackson Pollock?harlequino

i have been places where there are african-americans working say at subway and they act like they are doing me a huge favor by making me a sandwich and provide bad service. This is in some instances and it is intimidating, because I don't want to put them to too much trouble. Sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- lazy people do not belong to one ethnic group.mrdobolina

It is actually possible for people to be lazy dicks with a chip on their shoulder wihtout it being confined to race. For every low functioning, irritable, stand offish person 'of a shade' whom I've met, I've met just as many, and sometimes, white people are exactly the same.
Stupidity is color blind.
- redant0
kinda like that
- Jimbo820
So if it all boils down to how the word is said from one person to another then why does race come into it? A black person can say it to another as a term of abuse, as well as in a 'friendly' way (if possible). The problem comes with saying that if a white person says it to a black person it is automatically abusive.
- it isn't automatically abusive though.mrdobolina
- it shouldn't be automatically abusive, but some take the liberty to say that it islocustsloth

Black people use the term in a totally different context than what white people ORIGINALLY intended for the word to be. They took the word and "flipped" it so to speak. The flipped a negative into a positive within thier own ethnic circle. The argument when "white boy Jim Bob" makes about "well its messed how they can use it and I cant" is a moot point because the real truth is Jim Bob 1. doesnt want to use it as a term of endearment or in any other context that black people are using it for, he really wants to use it in the context that his granddad used it in. and 2. all what Jimbob really knows about black people is what he see's on TV and in the news (which is selective with thier stories anyways).
We can even go deeper with this by reading this article, written by a white professors a few years ago.
- i love that it's "white boy Jim Bob". Not stereotypical at all.locustsloth
- But it's ok if the profs were white. If a black prof said "white boy Jim Bob" whooooaaaa look out!!locustsloth
- What the fuck are you talking about!?Jimbo82

historically the word has a heavier meaning than most others. even though it was bastardized to mean something it doesn't actually mean, much like bitch means a female dog and faggot means bundle of sticks, it carries a lot of weight and feeling of hate and oppression because of what it is associated with.
is that fair? prejudices against women date back to the beginning of time, and it seems gays have become the new minority to hate in the last 30 or 40 years sadly.
that being said i will use the n-word to describe ignorant people. and always say that you certainly don't have to be black to be one. i have met / lived around some supremely backwards fucking white people in my life that certainly deserve that name. ignorance knows no skin color

Redant. Your experience with black people is obviously limited and has jaded your perspective. I can't be mad at you for that because my experience with white people was limited once too. But until you get outside of your own world for a bit you'll never understand just how ignorant you really are.
- yea i think ive been jaded. I dont think we can get away from it though. I used to believe we are all the same no differences but now i dunno
redant - No. We're not all the same from a cultural perspective. Race does influence who you are to some degree but how much is the question.Glitterati_Duane

I jus think there will always be race issues. I am mex-american poeple are ALWAYS making neg remarks about Mexicans. I don't think I'm ignorant but realistic. There are differences at least in culture, deep down yes we are the same.
Blacks using the N word among themselves is like Mexicans calling each other wetbacks its all derogatory.

yea i think ive been jaded. I dont think we can get away from it though. I used to believe we are all the same now i dont know.
- SORRY if I offended anyone. Just putting it out there. I could be wrong and I could be Ignorant. :)redant

An African American woman I used to work with and I had a long conversation about that word one time. I think it's horrible, and that it's so representative of negativity and evil.
But she, on the other hand, said that when black people use it now, they're empowering themselves to rise above it and give it it's own meaning, or make it less harsh.
I seriously don't understand that one bit.
- it's just like when we joke and call each other "cunts" or "queers." they are still offensive terms but regarded differently7point34
- the n-word just holds more weight7point34
- Yeah 7point. That's pretty close to how I see it anyway.Glitterati_Duane
- exactly, 7.34. there ARE other words that are offensive. not as offensive, but still offensive.Jaline
- mrdobolina0
hang out with some black people for a while, that word loses all meaning.

How do you know I know nothing about black people? And why is my grandad a racist? You don't know shit.
- I said Jim Bob..not Jimbo. Wasnt directed at you unless you have a guilty concience. And unless you are black, how many black friends you have really doesnt matter. You and them live in two different worlds.dauntilus
- Fair do's! Thought it was a scathing attack on me seeing as my comment was before yours!Jimbo82

Black people taking the word and "flipping it" is nice and theraputic, but it doesn't solve anything in the long run.
"Nigger" isn't the scope of the problem, because the problem doesn't revolve around language. No matter how much you divide language up into territory you will never solve the issue (and will stay mad about it until you take real steps... like forgiveness)
- wow first time the word was used. I was wondering if anybody actually had the balls.PIITB
