nigger nigger nigger......Do you people here have any idea where that word came from??
It came from blacks in affffrica....they couldnt pronounce the word 'negro'...when it came out of their mouth it sounded like 'nigger'....
White folks didnt give that name to them.....they gave it to themselves....
hell, they STILL cant pronounce the word correctly....they couldnt say negro.....and now....they cant say nigger.....its nigga....
they dont know how to talk, they dont know how to spell, they dont know how to wipe their asses correctly....sure, there are exceptions...but the majority is nothing less of just plain stupid...
I think that word is played out...we've moved beyond the word nigger...THESE blacks are far worse than niggers....those niggers came from affffrica....these 'things' are born and bred over here....

here if a white person at my school says it, and he/she wants to be or is from the bad part of town, no one cares
if a white person is from the rich part of town and says it, then everyone seems to jump the personif a black person says it, no one cares
if a latino says it, regardless of it, it varies.now if any other race says it, they get slapped in the wrist.

I never use it but it kind of annoys me how certain people can jump up and down regardless of context or intent when a white person uses it. Segregation is wrong, wrong wrongerrr and that's it.

I don't like the word... or, I don't like the fact that one race can use it and another can't. They (The View) said the word has power only if you give it power... well, segregating who can use it gives it power.
People dislike race seperation, and words like this do nothing but to help continue the seperation of race.

@monkeyshine - I can understand/accept that I will never know how it is to be black. That's not the point. It's not about feeling left out, I can use the word when ever I want... but I don't.
You seem really angry. It's a shame, I wouldn't mind debating, but it seems you have made up your mind and are very closed to listening to others. That's the kind of attitude that keeps everyone from moving forward.

To be fair, Whoopie Goldberg makes an excellent and irrefutable point in the initial video in regard to it being ok for black people to use the word nigger but white people must never use it when she states – "That's just the way it is, see"

Thinking more about this...I just honestly am surprised when people make comments like 'why can they say it and I can't'. The logic seems to be that if one cannot relate or understand how someone else feels about a particular thing, then the obvious response is to dismiss their whole perspective. From an experiential standpoint we are all not equal.
I have a close Jewish friend who has a wary unease of Germans...and occasionally the French. Is it rational? I don't really think so but then I don't really know what it is like to carry the weight of that legacy of discrimination and hatred. I guess my point is that intellectual 'right and wrong' become moot on this level.

I feel I can speak openly about the subject, being a black female. In It's my personal opinion, that the word kinda sucks all around. Taking the word back is a form of empowerment whether you believe in it or not. Generally, most black people I've talked to abou the subject feel that way. If you feel like being brave, try using it around a group of young black people. They'll probably set you straight pretty quickly. Nobody likes when someone makes a mockery of the culture they identify with.
I've used the word but not very often -- and only in the presence of certain people and in very delicate situations. Since my family was completely disconnected and lost among the west Indies thanks to the Spanish, I think I'll use the word any way I please. It's not so long ago that we still don't feel the effects of all that in this generation -- so the "get over slavery" argument isn't very valid. If that's your platform on the subject, you might as well tell every jew out there to stop trippin' on the holocaust. You can think whatever you want about that -- but, I'm sure there's some sensitive spots for everyone out there that you just don't want to pick at without conjuring a fight.
I'm not saying fighting is a good thing to do, either. But how about someone talks about your family, culture, or even just repeatedly calls you something that you're not out of hate until you snap. If you tap someone's soft spot long enough they'll swing at you in one way or another. So, I don't suggest anyone uses the word out of jest. It's clearly not funny.

wow, I never thought I'd see a thread on Newstoday that would make me not want to visit here ever again. However, this is QBN, so maybe it is different. I guess it's possible that I took the small amount of what I have in common with the masses here and mistook it for being a part of something pretty good. Obviously that's just a crock of shit and this place is more shallow than a fucking mining pan. You are a bunch of morons. When I say "you", you know exactly who you are... A lot of the things that were said in this thread go way beyond whether or a certain group can or can't say a word. All I know, if someone I don't know walked up to me and called me "nigger" we're going to have problems, regardless of race. It's very similar to if someone you don't know walking up to you and calling you "fuck-face" or "bitch" versus one of your best friends using it as a greeting or in jest or to playfully antagonize you. Don't let a day time show of overpaid C-listers dictate your feelings about some other race here.

i am not dictating.
it's just a current issue in my country.
a lot of debate about it, and court cases.
judge ultimately ruled that words should always be used freely for the sake of free speech, adding to it the responsibility for modern day people to learn to deal with it or take their responsibility in sensitive situations.
having that said i am not dictating anything to anyone,
here, it is simply so, that since it is not illegal it CAN be said to you, and arguing about it is fine as long as it does not make one resort to violence.hence the responsibility part...
