Going to STL to watch the Cubs beat the fuck out of the Cardinals this Saturday! I'll let you know what I think about the town. I will judge it for you
- that area is really nice, near brand new. the city itself is pretty cool. it's small but big enough ya know.kona
- Cool. Thanks Dave!5timuli
- Cubs is gonna lose.duckofrubber
- LOL @ DAVE! 5 points is it?kona
- i hope the cubs get their brains beat in. cubs fans are getting a little out of hand here in the city.kona

I looked up some agencies there and there were quite a few for such a small city.
- This is true. I have worked at/for many. There are also a bunch of corporate headquarters with internal depts.duckofrubber
- A lot of Beer work? St. L used to be filled with Annheuser Busch crap breweries>?>?>?stoplying
- About 65% of this city works for A-B somehow...duckofrubber

Multi-faceted city. Pretty much anything you want to see/do/eat can be found. Lots of public parks (I think the most of any city in America?), and Forest Park (second only to Central Park in size) has a Zoo, Science Center, Art Museum, and lots of other stuff for free.
Many different neighborhoods and cultural areas of various historical import. Strange politics at times, and quite high poverty in the city proper, as most middle-classians have left for the strip-mall infested counties. I live in the city for that very reason, although the public education system is pretty much bunk right now and I'm getting worried for my own kid...
Nice underground house scene, if you know where to look...
- Oh, great crumbling historic architecture for photography.duckofrubber
- Hotel downtown... suggestions?SoupCan

What duck said. Nice museums, though the art scene seems a bit dry to me (then again, I grew up in Balto/DC so that's an unfair comparison).
I work here: http://www.kuhlmannleavitt.com. I like it. Small shop, nice range of work and overall great clients. There are a few other good shops in town, such as Toky and 501 Creative. There are a whole lot of mediocre shops too. The design scene in general is conservative, but companies like ours have an eclectic client base from around the country. We're actually ideally situated between the two coasts. Budgets so far have probably not been hit as hard for local clients as they have on the coasts.
Great indie music scene here.
I live in South City, which is steadily being re-populated by young folk like myself. Small but neat yards and old brick houses with sycamore-lined streets. Surpisingly safe area for a city.
There are a handful of world-class restaurants around here. Also, my all-time favorite pub, the Scottish Arms, is considered one of the great whisky bars in the world.
Billions of churches, take your pick if you're a man of faith. Probably too many churches, to be honest. The general tone is conservative on politics, though it's fairly eclectic in the city.
Don't move to the county if you can help it, unless you have kids and want some of the best public education in the country.
email me if you want more info.

Looks good! And The Scottish Arms? I'm there! Scots wahey!5timuli - woot woot :)
srsly, if you're in the hood, holler.gramme - Dude, DRY is an understatment, try non-existent. The only place the hosts good stuff is MadArt and it's not regular enough to sustain people who like to go to galleries all the timeNONEIS

Trust me, if you are from anywhere even remotley closer to a coast, stay the hell away. The only people I know that LIKE Saint Louis, were bred in the Mid-West. Some of the places to work are cool (i worked here for 3.5 http://www.toky.com, and they are easily the best place in town as far as reputation and good clients go) but, and this is a big BUT, I hated Saint Louis as a city. It's dirty, conservative, catholic and the downtown area feels like a freakin ghost town, I swear I saw tumble weeds around every corner. Visit first, decide after.
- I can agree with this as well. Having lived here for 10 years, I can say it could be worse...duckofrubber

Also, as far as food is concerned, if you like sea food at all, be prepared to swear it off your diet for the whole time you are there. No ocean is a days drive from there, and the fish that is available is largely overpriced, and mediocre. I would call the cuisine out there mediocre over all though, lots of deep fried things, and lots of just OK bar food to be found. Stick to the asian food out there if you go, thats the one thing STL really has going for it, tons of good asian food (cant eat that every day though...).
- What about Bar Italia? STL's best restrurant...skwiotsmith
- Wouldn't have been my pick, kinda subjective. I liked Sen Thai a lot, really good curry.NONEIS

Jesus NONEIS you have a real roast beef with this city... I can't wait to leave and I haven't even visited yet.

Noneis, I agree somewhat. I grew up on the East Coast, and being a surfer, no one misses the ocean more than me I can assure you. I will say that downtown has been revitalized a lot in recent years, it's changed even in the 2.5 years since I moved here.
STL also has great Italian, Indian, Mexican and Thai food if you know where to look. There are places like Busch's Grove and Harvest where the seafood is pretty good and the atmosphere is stunning (read: does not belong in the Midwest).

Toky is good, though their newer work is waaay better than their old stuff. Same could prolly be said of my firm.
