i got an old powerbook that runs tiger great, still is usable to do solid work on
but i am using a macbook pro now...
i have never had any problems that either were not fixed by the guy coming to my house or quickly by mail
and most of them were my fault
don't stick a filet knife in you laptop, it won't fix the issue

I'm sure Tiger runs better than 10.1 on an old G4, because effectively Apple is getting it's users to pay to be Beta testers. I jumped ship when my brand new 800mhz G4 Powerbook (2002) could not run flash (or the Adobe suite) to save its ass. Grossly underpowered with a bloated and thirsty OS.

(Oct 24 07, 10:32)jumped ship to what? windows beta tests on users too.

acescence, are you going to tell me what my experience was? The thing ran like shit out of the box. It was barely usable running in OS9 actually.
- acescence0
yes, i will tell you what your experience was, and you will like it. now fetch daddy a popsicle.

(Oct 24 07, 11:50)ha, that's rich. i actually have no preference, i believe all platforms suck in their own special way

always thought about mac.
bought 24" with all heavy shit inside and its freezing 2-3 times a day...I saw the threads on their forum, but still theres nothing to do with that.

i dunno, i've got an R1 B&W G3 that still i use for backup and as a file server. OS X boots better than ever under Tiger and with every update.
i figure Apple just suffers from being under a very narrow spotlight... if you took all the PC complaints on the net and subdivided them into unhappy Dell customers, etc etc, the scope of unhappiness would look just as bad.
that and the fact that Apple now appeals to all the world's trend whores who truthfully have no interest in anything tech.

I really don't think it is a case of a narrow focus. If you take all of the PC problems you know of anecdotally then eliminate those purely caused by a virus you'd probably have a very small number. I can't think of any in my experience, in fact. Never had a motherboard fail or a harddrive freeze with any PC i have had over the past ten years. I can only think of 1 PC harddrive problem through all of the experiences of everyone I know.
I guess the sentiment that "Apple sucks less" is probably something I'd agree with because I really like a lot about the OS.
All-in-all, the greatest thing we could all ask for is to have Apple allow clones again so there is some competition to drive improvements.

ughhh. the Apple clones... forgot about those day. makes me cringe, my first job outta college was working on one of them nasty boxes.
know what you mean about healthy competition but ack some of the clones were horrible.
- Mimio0
The Apple clones were actually pretty good and usually better than the Apple corresponding models. At least the Power Computing ones I knew of, my prof had one.
- joyride0
I don't think apple prices are that bad. If you price out a similar spec'd dell or hp as the MBP it's not that much cheaper. Same goes for the MB. The $700 laptops are not the same ram, processor, etc.

My last mac before switching back this year was a PowerTower Pro from Power Computing and I remember it fondly.
Remember those days? When there were options for Mac OS users and when most chose a clone over the Apple brand computers? Probably because they were better machines and less expensive.
Imagine what kind of PCs would be out there if IBM were the only company making Windows PCs... For that matter, look at how horrible Windows is... competition is the key I tell you!
- acescence0
many of the issues with windows stem from the fact that MS has no control over the hardware... many of the strengths of OS X stem from the fact that Apple has absolute control of the hardware.

Still run a powerbook from 02 and a third gen iPod both with no problems... also have had great service when I go into the stores or on the phone. I don't think random bad experiences from people speaks for Apple as a whole.
Keep in mind if you own a PC you have to take it to "geeks" at best buy because you don't have a hp or dell store to service your machine. Apple could be like them but they choose to provide a service.
side note - my PC has random "memory parity errors" and i have to restart all the time... still love PCs and Macs tho.
