I was at a genius bar a few days ago with 4 others who made appointment. They guy was helping the 4 of us at the same time and this guy walks in and starts giving the genius attitude cause he wants help for his iPod and didn't understand the concept of making appointments. So is apple giving him crappy customer service by refusing help him unless he made an appointment like the rest of us? not defending apple here, but its not their fault all the time.

i think thats just human stupidity
but in his defense, i think you should be able to get help by dropping in
genius bar is not a doctor's office
- PonyBoy0
what are they doing over-booking appointments though?
... do you feel like you were getting good customer service while sitting there w/3 other people, mitee_?
- Jaline0
mitee, most people don't get help in that same way. You would have a point if that occurred all the time, but then the Genius Bar employees should know how to make appointments.

For example, the internal sound on my MBP 17" suddenly stopped working...

(Oct 24 07, 08:20)here's the reason:
http://forums.macosxhints.com/sh…"There's a microswitch inside the port that toggles between analog and digital optical output. With nothing in the port, the switch should go back to the default analog state. If you're seeing that red light, the microswitch is stuck in the digital optical state--and the red light itself is, I presume, an internal terminator of the optical cable (though I haven't actually opened the case to try to verify this).
Sometimes the switch can be reset simply by plugging in and then removing some analog headphones. Sometimes the switch can also be reset by inserting and removing a digital optical cable. The point is that the switch is stuck and the only non-invasive way to attempt to unstick it is by "working" the port a bit by slowly and gently inserting and removing a plug a few times, perhaps best one that you don't usually use in the port. The goal isn't, however, to try to see how far into port you can push the plug, as that may be why the switch is stuck in the digital position in the first place; the goal is to activate/deactivate the switch a few times to try to get it working normally again."
had an issue with it before, too.

wow, thanks subverse!! I've "gently stimulated the hole" (haha) but it seems to be stuck like a mtfkr.
I wonder how it's supposed to look inside the hole. From what I can tell, my switch is bent like hell... like a 45 degree dive.

oh yeah, next 20 year old "Genius Bar" motherfucker that gives me an attitude might get power slammed onto that fuckin "bar"

its cute but not so functional in a pro user
if i had a choice i would use Windows 2000.
it raw and i can manipulate it much as i want.

(Oct 24 07, 08:22)from a statement like this i would guess you don't know unix or the shell. you are missing 50% of the functionality of OS X if you are not using the CL

I don't know how everyone else's
Apple store is, but out here these fuckers walk around like they're the shit. I don't ask them for shit any more. I do all my research on the products before I even step into the store so I don't have any question, because every time I do I get answers like I'm 8 years old. 95% of those motherfuckers can't hold my jock strap in Mac experience."Hi sir, can I help you with something?"
"No."

Hi, I am the devil's advocate!
How have I ever survived all of these years in the PC world without live interaction with the genius bar? Why does every Mac user need to have their hand held?
- Geith0
I still love Macs, but the beach balls and performance issues are making me one cranky lad.

(Oct 24 07, 09:07)all they know how to do is. read off the flyer, point to where demo unit is, and where the cash reg is.

Always been a PC user (since 286) and in the last 5 years always dealt with Macs. At work I have a really kick-ass Mac and at home my Dell Laptop and my homemade desktop.I always knew that Windows was a fake interface for DOS (and almost still is) i never pushed too much Windows and my machines were always quite stable (even with win98). Lately XP seems to be a OS worth of that name. On the other hand i really like MacOS simplicity. The fact that everything you need is there, the interface is easy (well, apart the "throw to CD on the basket to pop it out) and doesn't use nonsense when something goes wrong.
Said that, both Mac and PC for me are the same thing. I love each other. Sometime when on Win i miss the simplicity and sometimes on Mac i miss the possibilty to access to everything of the OS like i do on Win (yeah, the console is there, i know)And anyway the next computer will be a MacBook.

OOOO 286
i remember that was the SHIT when it came out....
ahhhhh good old days...

i actually prefer using DOS
MrD
(Oct 24 07, 09:10)now THAT is funny
- Fariska0
Since DOS is a copy of UNIX (in terms of basic shell commands) it makes perfect sense.
- jox0
Noobs.
I had an 8086. That was two generations before the mighty 286.
