    IN HELL FROM SEX

    SEX PIT HELP ME JESUS

    SIN SEX SOULS IN HELL

As the nights draw in... this is one of the spookiest places I’ve ever been, Rice’s Cross Garden in Prattville, Alabama. I went there in 1997 when working for @rawvisionmagazine . From my diary at the time: “His wife answered the door. She was fat with dark bags under her eyes. She said Rice was diabetic and had flu and was too weak to get up. She took us inside where there was a very strong smell of toilet disinfectant. All over the walls were pictures of Christ. Crucifixes hung from the ceiling in bunches. Rice was in one of those big spongy articulated chairs that moves when you press various buttons. He was sprawled out with his stomach bursting from a tight shirt with black crosses sewn onto it. Apparently he had had some cough mixture the night before which had pushed his blood sugar levels sky high. Every so often he coughed, gurgling and squeaking as if he was trying to speak. He was bald with white fluffy hair around the sides, smooth white skin and yellow finger nails.

He told us that a man who wanted to build houses locally had tried to sue him for his ‘offending structures’. They went to court and won - thanks to Jesus. Of all the people we had seen Rice seemed least concerned with his work as any form of art, it was purely about spreading the word of Jesus. His wife said “there’s a hell down there and I’ve got news for some of those people who’ve mocked Mr Rice for doing what he’s done”. Someone had said he was a sweet old man. He certainly cheered up during the hour we were with him, though even this he put down to Jesus. It seems like some kind of weird obsession. It might as well been Elvis. ‘Elvis saves’. He told us about a man who used to laugh at the crosses who was now putting up his own further down the road. At one point Rice tried to get up but only managed to vibrate on the spot and topple backwards into the soft folds of his chair. The whole garden was for sale for 5 million dollars.

It was a beautiful evening and the crosses cast long shadows. I do think it’s a fantastic place, but probably not for the reasons intended.”

A history teacher was stabbed and “decapitated” in front of his school in a suspected terror attack near Paris, according to police.

The victim had shown caricatures of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad to students during a lesson earlier this month, officials said.

Full disclosure: I was raised a Christian, and was actually going to seminary and to become a pastor until one day I woke up and there was nothing there. I've been an atheist since I was 17. For the annoying part, I'd say I'm a a neuroexistentialist and an absurdist.

God is real, and is an untouchable thing that people have made and seek because we are either consciously or subconsciously aware that we are specks. God is the void, God is at the heart of war, and yet God is also peace. "God is my co-pilot" bumper stickers are oddly accurate, because it really depends on the driver.

I saw God a few weeks ago. While walking to the store there was a woman coming towards me on the sidewalk, and a massive puddle between us. She wasn't on her phone, she was distracted by herself, lost in thought. It was so obvious that she was about to step right in this ankle-deep dent of wet and she did, with a splash. She laughed with no shame or frustration or break in stride. That's God. There was some peace that I saw in that, and it's a peace I want.

I once had total, unequivocal, absolute proof of the Judaeo-Christian God's existence, in a manner that was entirely and profoundly unquestionable to me personally, and it was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Not that I was actually scared, just overwhelmed by silenced awe as a myriad of proofs streamed forth, like some timeline narrative of my life with long-forgotten memories of incidental events replayed, each acutely describing God's role in a way that I knew to be absolute and real.

Nitrous Oxide is an amazing thing.

@_niko (regarding your post below) Your assumption is that the absence of religion would allow humans to live in peace, love and harmony. You are wrong.

The absence of religion would arguably lead to more death, war and injustice. The abhorrent actions of those driven by a misguided interpretation of their faith is less to do with the Koran and more to do with radicalisation and social intolerance.

What divides us as humans is everything: sport, money, politics, drugs, sex, shopping, resources, music, emotions, love, death ...and on, and on ad infinitum. We are a fundamentally 'tribal' species and this will always lead to conflict. Always. Laying the blame for all the troubles of humanity at the feet of religion is myopic.

During the French revolution 17,000 people were decapitated in the streets in front of an audience and it wasn't because of a religion.

    • Jordy P gets into that a lot, how humans are too daft to function without a god myth. It helps drive the society and give people hope.PhanLo
