I think it's more crap couples who wed on a whim which have destroyed the meaning of marriage in the first place. Or forcing couples into it long ago. I mean, what about forced marriages, didn't they destroy the "meaning" of it since the begining of time? Are they afraid that if gay marriages are allowed, everyone will start wearing lipstick and listen to Bonnie Tyler? What's the big deal here?

Anyway, take care of your own lovelife before you stick your nose in someone else's is what I say.

I kind of like the Roman gods, they had super-powers.

the whole "gay sex is wrong because men don't have vaginas" thing is retarded.

if this was true our arms would be only 11 inches long because masturbation is wrong too.

I agree that the term marriage is outdated and abused. It's context is 95% social and maybe 5% religious. In it's most simplistic form, it is the union of 2 people, which is a beautiful thing, regardless of any social/religious context. To deny ANYBODY that option is unconstitutional. It's like outlawing love, which, last time I checked, kind of goes against God's plan.

And if God is capable of hate, then he hates all of us. Gay/Straight/whatever.

    Love thigh Neighbour as thyself.

Even if you don't agree with thier 'policys'

It's not morally correct yes, but resorting to abuse is not either.

    Dear Sen./Rep. [ insert member's last name ]:

In the weeks ahead, it is likely that you will be asked to consider a proposed constitutional amendment that would require states to discriminate against same-sex couples and their families. I strongly believe that this amendment would violate the principles of equality and fairness so central to the Constitution, and I urge you to oppose it.

Never in our history have we amended the Constitution to require discrimination against one group of Americans, and we should not set that terrible precedent. Despite what some amendment supporters say, there is no moderate, compassionate or respectful way to consign millions of Americans to second-class citizenship.

Americans are debating civil marriage, as they have done many times before. Past debates, often considered "crises" in their day, have helped marriage evolve into a fairer institution, and Congress and state legislatures have adapted laws to reflect our changing attitudes. Amending the Constitution would stifle this vital debate and the progress it could produce.

There is, and will continue to be, disagreement about marriage in our country. But there can be no legitimate disagreement that the Constitution is no place for discrimination. I urge you to stand with us on that principle and vote against amending the Constitution to require discrimination.

    oh yea. the reasoning:

The next two weeks will be important ones in the legislative and public debates surrounding attempts to amend the Constitution to require discrimination against same-sex couples. With Massachusetts set to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on May 17, a burst of Religious Right activity and media attention on this issue is assured.

The instituion of marriage has been falling apart the day people started marrying for love.

i fail to see your point Kuz. but i cannot disagree with you.

as for the others, i am glad this thread still lives. i figured most of you would be rather apathetic. then again most of you are.
just glad to see that some still give a damn about what happens and how your rights can be "revised".

I dont know what my point is either. Something like, hey men who like men and women who like women- why dya wanna get married for huh? like what's the point?

Wow, it's like a whole can o' worms. Since once they're married it'll be easier for same sex couples to adopt. And then like the whole surrogacy question cos they want kids with their own genetics. Then it's like a legal fuckin nightamre when it comes to paternity rights. Like the state needs a clear definition of what the family is. And it's like who has parental responsibilty - then the whole - who's the mother in that relationship and who's the father - and what about he/she who donated the egg/sperm - and inherticance rights - and the state wont know who to punish for outta control kids like the ones on Maury "I'll do wot I want!". And people will have to give up the idea of what family is (if they haven't already), and be all liberated cos they can have any combination of anything to live their lives anyway they want to. But then Capitalism needs the institution of family, just like it needs the state and it needs religion - but these are the instituions Capitalism itself has destroyed. So it has to recreate them. So people will now look to Capitalism to give them the ideal of what the family is (instead of outdated traditions) so Capitalism will reinvent something (like it always does) to give people something to aspire to - cos the whole of humanity is one being giant herd of sheep they exploit - and so everyone on the planet will want the same kind of gentically modified offspring with super athletic bodies and amazing brains. But then it will be deemed too risky for women to give birth naturally (because unforseen genetic mutations happen) - so all babies will be born in factories to specifications (ala Brave New World) - And we'll all have families that Pampers tell us to have, just so they can sell nappies, and will raise them how Dr Phil wants us to so he can sell books, and we'll feed them what Nestle tell us to - cos we all want perfect families that the coorporations will create for us to aspire to - and this new species of super genetically modififed humans will walk around with an incredible urge to CONSUME - because thats the image capitalism will have projected as ideal form of human - but by then Artificial intelligence would have grown in leaps and bounds that we will no longer need human beings for any form of labour what so ever. But the machines will need us, because the machines will be PURE capitalism - designed and programmed to embody capitalism, to serve it, and make the economy grow.... But the machines will have no impulse to consume, they were never built for that - and so to serve their capitalist purposes they will need humans to consume - so they will use their marketing brilliance to make humans want to be consuming organisms, and so they will genetically egineer a pure consuming species., and in a squillion years from now our planet will be this giant metallic Earth that is half factory, half shopping mall. With the humans in the shoppin mall feeding the machines desire to create capital, and the machines feeding the humanoid desire to consume. An endless feedback loop projected for all of eternity until a giant meteorite destroys the planet - and no-one will notice because they're too busy creating capital, and consuming, creating capital, and consuming. And then when the earth is wiped out somewhere in the rubble there will be a Mobile Phone ringing it's polyphonic MP3000000 tone someone download on the infiweb - but they'll be no one to answer it........oooooooo

i don't know why i would even distinguish this string with a response, but:

as far as homosexuals go, it has nothing to do with assholes (pun restrained here)

as far as god is concerned, love is the bottom line. if you know love, you know God, and the opposite is true (1john4). love every man/woman first, then decide how important it is to crusade on their sins.

can we please grow up and stop embarrassing god?
