Oh, btw. Saw The Odyssey. My fears put to shame, it was good. Not my thing, but good.
I liked the very non-sensational and slightly low key approach to filmmaking (for our era at least). It seemed like an antidote to the CGI noisefest of mainstream cinema these days.

Since my youngest daughter works a couple of days a week during the summer, I drive to pick her up at night from a town about 12 km away.
I hate doing it because it splits my sleep in two—making it hard to fall back asleep—and because I can never get used to the nighttime "wildlife": speeders and the countless young Moroccan couples dealing drugs...

Going through boxes I left stored at mum's house, literally in a box in the attic, I found a book listing my early gig going years from 1979 to 1983. I have memories of all of them to some extent but I neatly recorded the artists I saw live until about 1985 by which time I couldn't be arsed, but if anyone wants to know more about any of these shows I'll try and post up memories if I can be arsed, lol.

I have been and lived in most major cities in America, including 10 years in “LA” (west side) but in these 10 years, I can count on one hand how many times I went downtown.
I had to come downtown today to take care of something and it was gonna take a couple of hours so i decided to walk to a nearby restaurant literally like 4 short blocks away and I did not make it past the 2nd block.
absolutely filthy streets, a fucking wasteland of nothing but zombies walking around, full blown shanty towns on the street i turned around on, cops driving by and not giving a fuck.
I CANNOT BELIEVE this is the united states. how can a place be this horrid. how can the people here be the absolute lowest scum of the world? holy shit, this 5 min walk angered me so much i need a fucking Tylenol right now. this place is worse than Gotham city. I thought NYC was the biggest shithole in America but no, LA wins hands down. At least NYC is vibrant with people everywhere. the thousands of tourists help negate the zombies that roam the city.
the people running this city should be sent to Guantanamo bay with no food or water.

I have started sorting out my late mothers estate, which is going to take quite some time. She collected antiques and she inherited things from her mother and grandmother, so it will be tricky going through her old things which I will have to decide on keeping or moving on. Amongst the ornaments in her cabinet I found this odd, delicate and quite beautiful 7" high, glass model of a German Howitzer bomb! Decorating the sides are dates and depictions of 4 battles, the sieges of Maubeuge, Namur and Longwy as well as the Battle of Liège, all in August/Sept 1914, at the beginning of WW1.
There is a visible crack to the lid but otherwise it is pretty amazing that such a delicate piece has survived 2 world wars in Germany, I think it belonged to my great grandmother who was born and lived in there until the late 20's when they emigrated to America. I thought I would share some photos of it as it is pretty unique and a beautiful but sad reminder of such a terrible time and if anyone knows more about this glass bomb I'd be grateful for any info. I will be keeping it of course as I remember looking at it when I was a kid.
