if you don't get the movie, it's rather telling about yourself as an individual. It's fairly simple to see the point being illustrated. Two people, one wealthy and one newly wed, both traditional signs of what society views as happiness and contentment, are miserable with their lives. They find happiness in a fleeting weekend of experience that cannot last, but will last forever in their memories.

It's a nice lil' film, Scarlett is adorable and Bill Murray is an icon. That's all. Not as good or bad as some people say it is. Virgin Suicides was better.

I didn't say I didn't understand the film, just thought it was shit on many levels.
The music was lazy. Tons of great Japanese music they coulda used. Y'know, put something back after you've taken the piss out of them.
Shit like this just reinforces certain stereotypes that I, through my work with my label, have been trying to break down.
What next? Is she gonna make fun of Swedish people. Total cunt!

but i loved the movie for the culture shock point of view. had been to tokyo two years before and saw the movie with my fellow travellers. recognized so much in LiT.

i enjoyed it. mainly because it reminded me of traveling, working overseas and all the emotions that involves.
Well acted and nicely shot, although I did feel like the humour was a bit offensive. A lot of laughing at the Japanese 'engrish'.. it's a bit tired and not as clever as it likes to think it was.

soda, I know what you mean. I had high expectation of the film but the cheap jokes were disappointing and the soundtrack was/is lame. Too much cronnyism but hey, that's the politics of movie making plus few music supervisors have any vision (never thinking outside of the box)
