You're welcome dessalles.
Besides working with the "Spike-Clan" Lance also did a lot of work with Mike Mills as well...

yeah, he's definitely talented. the camera work was what really sticks in my head the most from the movie. fantastic. Coppola was lucky to have someone like him, because it was really crucial in holding the whole feel of the movie together.

I totally felt this movie. Loved every minute.

..just hope NT doesn't generalise on Japanese people who generalise themselves.

very funny, perfect for Bill Murray.

Saw it this past Sunday.
It was really good, really held your interest and the camera work and just the look in general of the movie was excellent.
It kind of kept you on the edge of your seat-you kept wondering what was going to happen between them.

loved it, even bought the soundtrack

I was pretty excieted to hear/see a My Bloody Valentine song used in a movie. Very cool.

ditto, mimio. I just bought Loveless a couple weeks ago, I've had Isn't Anything for a few years now.
But the one song in the movie on Loveless is incredible. It's like the guitar is going to explode with all the distortion. love it.

Sofia Coppola should just tank her dad for putting up the money to make this movie. Umm... did anyone notice that we spent over 30 minutes cumilatively looking at downtown Tokyo? Very original Sof! Her handheld camera work, focusing on window glare, cutting way long... I let her slide with her bastardization or Virgin Suicides but this is a rehash in terms of shots and style.
The only shining light:
Bill Murray is a genious in the scenes where he appears to be ad libbing.Flame on,

everyone i talked to said it sucked... nothing happens plot-wise and all they do is hang out and get old...

that's why I liked it

exactly!
The movie moves in such a different way than the average American movie. It isn't about getting from one contrived plot point to the next.Their relationship also felt very real in the sense that they (and the viewer) never learned certin things about one another - they were taking what they needed from one another. You don't know if the events really shifted the course of their lives or not. It wasn't all neat and tidy - just like life.
Also - having been in the position of a gaijin going to Japan for the first time, I felt it totally captured that sense of being in a sea of millions of people and being totally isolated, and of having the communication barrier be so apparent alll the time.
Scarlett Johannson never struck me as too young (jeez is she only 18? Never would have guessed it but it sounds about right). i think i just found her hot as hell - loved how they showed her - cellulite and alll.
I wasn't a big fan of the Virgin Suicides - it seemed pretty empty and pointless to me - Lost in Translation still has some of that empty feeling lingering (but it certainly wasn't pointless), but since it was about people who just met, it worked for me. The movie really got to me.
Looking forward to Sofia's next movie - baby steps baby steps....

I thought it was really good, refreshing in the end that it was a totally non sexual love between the two main characters. that and Bill Murray is the man.

I just have to say that this was one of Francis Ford Coppola's best movies. Sure the credit went to his daughter, but I am positive he had ultimate say in the final product.
I saw the movie last Friday and at first was expecting too much. I had read various reviews and was actually fairly excited to go view it.
Overall the movie does portray life for what it is, empty, closed and unexpected. The final scene of the movie was the best I thought. When he’s leaving back to the U.S. and he spots her on the street, makes the cab driver stop and goes after her. Only to stop her and whisper something in her ear, you can only imagine what was said. At first I was thinking it wasn’t going to be her, just like in some other movies.
If I could also add; the soundtrack was not too shabby either.

The Jesus and Mary Chain track at the end really made my day.
