X-Particles Question:
Can I get an x-Particles texture to work on a text sprite?I'm using an emitter with a text Sprite and a text Modifier to get the numbers to change over time. If I put the material on the emitter or text Modifier it does nothing. If I put it on the xpSprite object it turns the particles black. I'd like to use the material to get some random transparency. Right not I'm working with the Display options in the Emitter but that could use more love. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is there any way to use a color shader and a mograph selection to change the color of specific clones? I have done this before but C4D makes this an absolute nightmare every time I try.
- every effector has a selection field that you can drop your mograph selection and just affect itfeel
- Yeah. I tried that and no matter what I do with transform color, min/max and shader color, nothing works. I will have to do more searching.CyBrainX
- I started looking at this one and got it to work. I'm not sure what's different now. This just wasted my afternoon. https://vimeo.com/46…CyBrainX

- You can add objects to be excluded in the "Projects" tab in a light. In some cases adding a Compositing Tag and checking off "Seen by GI" can be useful as wellevilpeacock
- oh you are the man!
so simple but I could't figure it out thank you!Miguex - I forget where stuff like that is all the time; it only comes up for some projects.evilpeacock
- Also, if you use Ambient Occlusion with transparent refractive objects, remember to use a compositing tag with Seen by AO unchecked to prevent severe shadows.CyBrainX

Did this as a test for the scene I posted earlier. I added a kitbashed C-130 to replace the one in the shot and a few other things but the scene isn't working and I have zero enthusiasm to try and make it work. Interesting as a technical exercise, but ultimately boring as an image - I had way, way, more fun with the GitS stuff.
- Although, I enjoyed making this. Might be the way to go - using the 'bots in smaller, more focused scenes.face_melter
- Looks interesting. What was your role in this? And what is a C-130. Forgive my ignorance. I don't know much about this kind of production.CyBrainX
- Oh, I added the two droids as replacements for the existing soldiers to see how they looked at scale. A C130 is a military transport plane, like a Hercules.face_melter
- Fuck, i missed this - so good!
Where's the C-130?detritus

^ ah man, about time with the 360 cam! nice. have cv vr but shoulda been built in a while ago
and that real time view port! niiice
i was hoping to put off the switch to PC a little longer but i think this will be the last straw

This ProRender mode for viewports in R19 is something to look forward to.

I changed default the setting to Keep Textures for Generating Instances and C4D decided to make all my current hair settings default. - including Render Hairs unchecked - also in the Generate tab.I don't mean changing a preference. I mean clicking on an attribute name in the Attribute Manager and going to Edit > Set at default...
How horrible. I'm booking a flight to Germany to blow up Maxon for this.
- CyBrainX0
Is there any way to get hair to grow on hair? I even made the first hair editable and tried to apply hair to that but the geometry seems cursed with baldness. Has anyone run into this?
- Actually, I can't apply hair to anything at all. I created a new file, made a cube editable and even that won't accept hair.CyBrainX
- What luck will I have trying to contact Maxon? Last time, they never replied at all.CyBrainX
- there is a feather object, if that's what you're trying to achievefeel
- yup, try the feather object. It's basically hairs on hairs as a preset.baseline_shift

^ I am going to answer my own question. That baked sculpted object method isn't necessary.
Select the Sculpt tag on your object, go to the Tag tab and press the Show Layer Manager button. (It's not the normal C4D Layer Manager.)
In the Sculpting Layers dialogue that comes up, go to the Tools tab and choose Create Polygon Copy.
I'm not sure if there's any benefit for waiting an hour for Cinema 4D to bake a sculpted object but that seems to fail consistently. I tried it in R17 at work and R18 at home.
- CyBrainX0
Has anyone ever tried to bake a sculpted object?
I made sure there was a file name in the File Name field. I checked Displacement, Normal and Ambient Occlusion in Options. I left everything else default and clicked Bake. Then, it took a useless hour to finish and created a black texture that was missing the file it was supposed to create for the Normal, Diffusion and Displacement channels. I did a computer search for the file and it doesn't exist. Did I do something wrong?
The reason I wanted to bake the thing is because you can't scale the sculpted object otherwise.

^ Rigid body dynamics is the way to go. The Push apart effector might work but it won't detect overlapping. You'd also have to be on R18 since it's a new feature.
Everything in dynamics with C4D can be bitchy. If you still have issues Go to Project Settings > Dynamics > Expert and increase the Collision Margin and maybe Steps per frame which increases accuracy.
- thanks bud!
dynamics slowed my process a lot and needed something quick this time around.Miguex
- thanks bud!

Can anyone help me with this?
I have a cloner object and random effector on these smiley faces and was looking for a way for them not to overlap each other (collision effector perhaps?) This is for a still, and would still prefer to have "some" control on the smiley positions, but would like for them not to touch each other.
Anyone knows how to solve this?
- I haven't had a great amount of time with this kind of thing but maybe add the Rigid Body tag, in Simulation. I've used it to make objects break apart when hit.face_melter
- Gives the objects collision detection and friction.face_melter
- there's a new effector called push apart that does just that on R18
https://www.youtube.…feel - alternatively, you could use mograph selection to move specific clones position or visibility, if it's a still framefeel
- push apart did it! thanks man!
:)Miguex - Use a rigid body tag and collider tag on smiley01 See next comment for details.CyBrainX

Done with GitS for the time being. Now: robots! Had an idea kicking around to do some military hardware porn - futuristic jet or something placed in an airfield scene. I started watching Elysium because I love Aaron Beck's industrial-looking, box head droids and thought - Infinite Warfare! Beck did the mech designs for that, which are fantastic. Sooo... onto facepunch and it turns out some people have ripped the models from the game and rigged them. Which leads to this:
Going to populate the scene, pose them up, add weapons. Add some details to the aircraft and transport. Like having my own set of Beck's Mechs to play around with. Fun!

been working on a short film in between jobs, one of the scenes is the character surfing. It has been the hardest thing ive ever attempted to animate! movements are so subtle and so much going as far as everything is moving. anyway pretty stoked with this so far. just a preview of course and a lot to still change and different views etc. Anyway always fun bringing two of your favourite things together eh
