After watching eight seasons of The Curse of Oak Island are they ever gonna find any treasure or is the best we’re gonna get ‘a British ox shoe from the eigh’een ‘undreds’

    • Awsome, didnt know they made a show about it. I heard about this years ago, I thought they will never find treasure. It's a lost cause.Sellies
    • I sometimes flip over to it late at night, but it makes no sense. It's like a bad Egypt documentary stretched over multiple seasons. So no, I doubt it. :-)PhanLo
    • Read about Oak Island as a kid in a Readers Digest magazine. Always loved a mystery. It’s a fascinating show.Morning_star
    • I heard about it from leonard nimoy’s “in search of...”scarabin
    • lol, I have watched them all also. They have spent millions and found v.little! Crazy place though, they may find something one day hopefully.fadein11
    • I always wonder what would happen if they finally found it in the 1st episode of a season... ha, the show would be over.fadein11
    • I don't think there's any question that there is/was some treasure there. The evidence of the vaults and tunnels etc is overwhelming. The maps and markers...Morning_star
    • ...and templars and sacred artefacts maybe a little too far fetched. I'll still keep watching though. Lets hope they can ramp it up next season after Covid.Morning_star
    • It would be cool if they did find stuff, it's like ultimate adventure tv. But the US ad cliffhanger format is quite draining. So much money they've spent there.PhanLo
    • I often wonder how much income a series like that would get for the participants. Same with Gold Rush and the like, does their income from the show matter?Morning_star
    • they get a lot from what I have seen. But the Lagina's are loaded anyway hence all that time spent looking for treasure. Well Marty is, that's why he spends afadein11
    • lot of time on Zoom calls rather than being there. Both millionaires... Such entertaining TV like gold rush etc... It helps me relax.fadein11

That "vibration" around the objects you see (when you're on LSD) is just your eye-moving muscles begin to lose their strength, and start shaking like the muscles in your arm under load.

    • True? I always thought is was some kind of signal latency between observation and comprehensionGnash
    • I always figured it was the fracturing of the interpolating wetware, resonating against whatever interstitial stage there is between sense and conscious.Nairn
    • I’m with Nairn on this onesausages
    • Ya, sounds like nairn nailed itGnash
    • I have to rethink this theorysted
    • I don't know about vibration, but tracers(trails) on lsd are likely caused by conciousness slowing down so much that you become aware of the synapses popping/cherub
    • turning on and off, producing a strobe effect- thus the trails following moving objects.cherub
    • What we experience as fluid motion, on the cellular level isn't during that interval when info is passing from one brain cell to another over a synapse.cherub
    • They're always there, we can only see them under altered conscienceness.lemmy_k
    • I dunno, ever do 2-CB and see everything turn holographic? Or do DMT? I’m not convinced these aberrations are purely mechanical in naturescarabin
    • ah yeah on drugs not purely. easiest way to see this is just try to focus on an object for a few mins. you do the same thing on lsd just don't notice, whilested
    • the drug does its job and adjusts the communication between your senses and brain :)sted
    • tried DMT didn't took over as i expected, i think it wasn't a good time to try. but i love to experience this on lsd :)) 2-CB no, scared of the consequences.sted
    • 2-CB will feel familiar if you’ve ever done high doses of acid. It’s DMT that still scares me. The only thing that ever truly kicked my ass into pure humilityscarabin
    • Ever get “the eye wiggles” on MDMA? That’s pretty mechanicalscarabin
    • nah, but first time I saw it on my girl she made me dead laughsted
    • ^^Yes, I have. Nystagmus. Supposedly the eye check the cops do during a sobriety check can reveal nystagmus as you follow his pen.cherub

I've thought idly lately about what would happen if someone went back in time to the early '00s armed with some memes from the 2020s, and started posting them on all the old forums everywhere.

Would they resonate then as they do now?

Would they be so popular as to easily overtake Nyan Cat, Imma Chargin Mah Lazer/Shoop Da Woop, Objection, You're the Man Now Dog, and All Your Base?

    Or would they absolutely tank?

I think 'WOULD' would have what it takes, even back then. Not sure about anything else from the last few years, though.

    • Quiznos commercials were animated memes of the nineties and early oughts. No one understood.imbecile

So, we can all agree that bitcoin was bad for the environment.

    So many wasted computational cycles.

We've not seen anything yet. This world will burn as we consume its worth generating absolute bullshit, via complex ML / pseudo-AI constructs.

Disreality will become; Swamped awash with high carbon cost fuckallitudes of every and any utterly nonsensical type.

As the demographic of this place is probably old enough to remember and experience the nuclear paranoia of the 80s cold war shenanigans, do you think we're overly sensitive and fearful of the consequences of the current 'events' surrounding the Ukraine.
