My mood due to Corona today: I bought a bottle of red wine. The shop owner asks if he should open it for me. I say "No, thanks. I won't drink the wine not before I get home".

    Weird enough.

Finnish people have a lifestyle for drinking. Kalsarikännit means "to get drunk at home wearing underpants and not planning to go out anymore".

    Cheers!

    :(

A one-time friend who I've not seen in years grew up on a Safari park in Scotland, which her folks ran. They invested £1m in a new dinosaur feature and then had to close down after being open for a single day this year, before C-19 restrictions came into effect.

Now their future is in doubt. Like so many businesses, the next few months is when they make their money.

    Boo.

So, who among QBN is absolutely 100% not going to return to whatever "normal" is out there no matter what the CDC or Trump suggest?

My wife and I talked about this last night. The cases could drop, things could turn to a more optimistic tone, but we're not changing a single social distancing / self and home hygiene habit for ourselves and our kids until either:

    A) the treatments and prevention get better and drastically reduce mortality rates, or,
    B) a vaccine is tested, available, and viable, or,
    C) we discover that we've somehow already had it and were asymptotic, and have antibodies that give us immunity

I want my kids to be back in day care so badly, it would be so much easier for my wife and I to get our jobs done at home during the day, but we're not deviating from home isolation until it is without a doubt 1,000% safe, no matter what the president says in an attempt to rush people back into the working world to save the economy.

    • Over here, they just said the social distancing thing is there to stay for many many months.Bennn
    • They will start re-open stores and business where the 6' distance is possible probably early MayBennn
    • Yup.nb
    • Mostly I agree, but there is no "1000% safe". I plan to wait 3 or 4 weeks after the rest of NYC goes back to "normal" before I return to the office.nb
    • ^ Pretty much that. I know things won't be normal. I just don't want to contribute to a rise in cases or risk to ourselves.mg33
    • Just wish there was a way for kids to go back to daycare safely.mg33
    • My office is supposed to move into a new space that's being built out for us in May. That was exciting, but no idea if that's happening on schedule. Doubtful.mg33
    • Once I know I'm immune, I feel like I can at least "try" to get back to "normal." But I know people will be weirded out for a loooooong time. Maybe years.monospaced
    • I can hardly work AT ALL from home. I wasn't prepared for it, and my toddler makes it nearly impossible, all day. It's totally insane.monospaced
    • I'm hoping that daycare can resume as well, and that will only come when we know people are immune, I THINK.monospaced
    • you guys with kids are very courageous, it must be very draining all this. Keep it up!Bennn
    • My 6 year old daughter has rheumatoid arthritis and is on an immunosuppressant. It will be a long time before I get back to a normal that potential exposes her.bogue

Trump Administration is loosening rules to allow some to return to work

In a first, small step toward reopening the country, the Trump administration could relax coronavirus guidelines as early as Wednesday to make it easier for Americans who have been exposed but have no symptoms to return to work, particularly those in essential jobs.

    Fucking morons!

"According to data from the National Multifamily Housing Council and a consortium of real-estate data distributors, 69% of renters paid their landlords for April compared with 81% who paid for March. For an annual comparison, 82% of renters paid their landlords in April 2019."

So, an additional 13% of people didn't pay. This could get worse, as most people had April ready to go or could delay income tax or borrow.

Who cares about that though. I am more shocked to read that 82% of renter's paid their landlords on a typical month! Does that not seem strange to everyone? Are that many people not paying rent?!?! 18% of the country?

    • So many people are just one month away from being homeless. It's really expensive being poor. Folk always chasing their tails.PhanLo

Federal Support Ends For Coronavirus Testing Sites As Pandemic Peak Nears.

Some local officials are disappointed the federal government will end funding for coronavirus testing sites this Friday. In a few places those sites will close as a result. This as criticism continues that not enough testing is available.

What did they know, exactly? US intel warned of ‘cataclysmic’ coronavirus pandemic in NOVEMBER 2019

US military intelligence tried to raise the alarm about the coronavirus epidemic in China when it was still embryonic in November, inside sources claim – raising questions of what they knew and who ignored, or squashed the report.

Not only had the coronavirus epidemic begun spiraling out of control in Wuhan by November 2019, but military analysts were already warning it “could be a cataclysmic event” for both China and the US, four sources familiar with the briefings told ABC on Wednesday. Analysts at the National Center for Medical Intelligence, a subsidiary of the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency, had been trying to alert Pentagon and Donald Trump administration officials of the looming catastrophe for months before the country finally took action, the sources claim
