A recent survey by The Economist/YouGov found that approximately 25 percent of millennial-age American men think asking someone for a drink is harassment. More than a third of millennial men and women say that if a man compliments a woman’s looks it is harassment.

Come on 'men', how do we make things better? Nobody needs this shit. It's fucked up and this thread's only going to include the cunts who make the news. Not the other completely self-absorbed, mindfucks who wait outside trains for that extra second look, thinking they're slimey, pathetic mouth needs to be connected to a womans to really make her feel respected.

It really is blowing my mind. :-(

    • I felt kinda sheltered after the discovery last year that 'dick pics' were actually a thing. I guess there are deep psychological issues and simple surface onesSteveJobs
    • as well. Many men project what we wouldn't be as offended by - the unsolicited reveal of a woman's body. Going beyond that, however, I don't understand.SteveJobs
    • mutual desire helps in those situations. id love to see a guy naked IF we were on a date AND we discussed mutual attraction and wanting to do more.shellie
    • shocker: coming to an agreement about pushing boundaries in some sort of sexual exchange does not turn women off.shellie
    • if i was single i would literally love if someone asked to kiss me. 8th grade moves are back in style. "may i kiss you" *swoon*shellie
    • I get that, and it seems generally accepted in my circle of friends that’s how things work. But that’s not how it works for some other men.Ianbolton
    • I want to know how to change that. Maybe I’ll set up a support group or something, but someone has to set an example or be a good ear at least.Ianbolton

    • Also going back to my grandfather. Growing up around these cunts, i saw narasitics, these vipers and it wasn't just "men" it was in the mindset of the family.mugwart
    • I think it's all about individualism and understanding our own spaces in an age in which gender roles have completely changed or even disappeared completelyIanbolton
    • Well I don't know how to compare those well connected families with majority of the population... I simply don't know much about them.pango
    • Men aren't going to give up that so-called power as a lot of it is competitive human nature. But they're also not going to openly talk about it either.Ianbolton
    • What I know is these pervy mind set can exist in every demographic of men. Everyone is normal till they're not.pango

    • It suggests men have always had to compete for the women. We are naturally more competitive. Now we have less of a need to compete in the same wayIanbolton
    • Ian. Ya we would always have those instincts. But as society evolves, perhaps the path of least resistance is to adapt.pango
    • Mug, I get where you’re at. Our current status is to try individually to work who or what we are when existentially we’re under less threat than ever before.Ianbolton
    • Mug. I agree with men suffering. We have higher suicide rate than women. But I think it's best to discuss it as 2 different subjects.pango
    • In fact, the biggest threat to males on this planet is suicide. So technically we’re a bigger threat to ourselves. Let’s understand that.Ianbolton
    • Whenever the issue of men suffering gets brought up during the subject of women suffering caused by men, the discussion never progresses.pango
    • And why are mens suffering only being brought up when men's are being accused of causing suffering? Can't we have that discussion with out having to sound likepango
    • Men prey on women because men are suffering? It's really not a justification.pango

@PonyBoy - it's because of how our news media and culture work in terms of the ability for the public to respond.

If Matt Lauer gets accused of assault but remains a host on the Today show, they lose ads and viewers at an astonishing rate. It'd be difficult to come back from at a PR level.

Politicians, meanwhile, simply have to wait out election cycles. Even then, they don't answer to news directors, but rather can purchase the news directors (or just a shit ton of airtime). All of this on top of natural voting demographics being what they are and the American electorate generally having tunnel vision when it comes to allegiance, you have pedophiles with four point leads in Alabama and predators in the Oval Office.

If our election system was reformed it could lead to greater, more immediate accountability (or at least things like not being backed mysteriously by out of state Super PACs), but as it stands the people who are most likely to have their careers ruined by this will be exclusively public figures who depend on consumers to respond at some level to their presence.

    • That's a good answerFax_Benson
    • meanwhile tax dollars are used as hush money to cover-up the politician's BS... oddly enough being reported to us 'consumers' by... well... not Matt Lauer LOL!!PonyBoy

I'm frankly much, much more amazed at the people who seem to be genuinely shocked at the whole Weinstein/Spacey/Charlie Sheen/Louis CK/etc/etc/etc thing, than I am about the scandals themselves.

Seriously, people have never heard of casting couch? That Hollywood might have a kiddy diddler or two? Come on, now, let's not be naïve.

I'm in no way excusing any of the bad behaviour, but I am rather surprised that it seems to come as news to some people that this stuff happens.

As much as Brand does my head in, when people suggest he's groomed all his followers into not believing the mainstream media so he could get away with this is absurd and ridiculous. Maybe it was obvious that his past was going to come back to bite him, as he's clearly been a massive bellend with some women, so defending or attacking him is pointless. Inevitably he's going to struggle to get over these accusations.

His interview with Gabor Mate about addiction was profoundly beautiful, while his book about addiction was also really useful to me. And he also did this: https://www.gawker.com/russell-b…

I dated a who a girl not too long ago who was raped by a celeb that everyone (almost literally) on this earth knows. He's always on talk shows and being interviewed and invited to various celeb-filled events. Anyway, he was in her hometown one day at a club and had one of his people invite her to his table. He made all kinds of suggestions about how he could help her business and eventually invited her to leave her friend behind and go with him to his hotel. When they got to his hotel he kept handing her drinks. The next thing she knew, she was waking up that next morning with his fingers inside her. She felt confused about the situation and didn't feel comfortable talking about it at length (understandable).

Fast-forward to several months later. One of her idiot guy friends who she was having a spat with, knew about the situation (which she was telling everyone about, but oddly leaving out the ending) tried to blackmail this celeb. So the celeb had his assistant reach out to her to basically make friends and ensure that if this were to get out or go to court that she would testify on the celeb's behalf. The assistant stayed in contact with her, keeping the conversations casual, and eventually offered to meet her for a 'fun business brunch' to discuss ways they could maybe help her business (this is still the assistant btw, not the celeb). When I pleaded with her to not go, she got defensive, stating that girls like her don't get many opportunities like this and that it could really help her career. We stopped talking shortly thereafter (for other reasons) but in the end the friend eventually had his bluff called and he never followed through with his threats to out the celeb, so I have no idea where things left off with her. But I'm just waiting for the day that someone outs this guy. And I'm curious, depending on whether she's gotten from him what she can use to further herself and her career, whether she'll jump on the bandwagon and cry foul.

It's a sad situation. Everyone in that story is a part of the problem. The celeb for using his influence to bait and manipulate a young girl (23 at the time). The young girl for tolerating his actions and willingness to help cover them up (to "save his marriage", reputation, etc. and further her name and associate with him) in spite of the obvious trauma it caused her. The assistant for being an accomplice to this whole situation. And finally, the asshole 'friend' for, well... for just being an asshole.

The thing is, in many other situations like this, trying to make every a clear case of the female being the victim is ignorant and undermines the efforts by those girls/women who are trying to spread awareness of the actual issue but struggle with abusive relationships because of mental health issues, or hoping to fix/rehabilitate the man, or save the relatioship, or family/kids, etc.

Having said that, these girls who fully understand what kind of trouble they are getting into with celebs but do it for the clout or to further their career only to later suffer the inevitable (bold, italicize, and underline that) emotional trauma/regret that comes with that kind of exchange - they are enabling other non-victims to do the same thing and destroying many innocent lives and the lives of anyone in their wake. What's that called? Oh yeah a sociopath... We need to stop enabling them.
