Jodorowsky's vision, while grand and fantastic and the stuff of coked-out nightmares, would have been an absolute cinematic mess. A hellish mash up of Zardoz and Blake's 7 with long shots of people doing absolutely fuck all but staring at their hands.
His Dune would be a prog-rock album made flesh and not a good prog album either - one that lasts for 14 hours and is nothing but gongs and screaming. And while all that does have a strange, bent, appeal it's something I would rather do on a Saturday night than pay to see on a cinema screen.
- That still sounds like an amazing film in comparison to a lot of the shit we get from HollywoodIanbolton
- you turn a phrase phrase, face :)Gnash

- Lack of sleep and too much analysing Ballard can sometimes be a good thing.face_melter
- Agreed, well written and automatic +1 for zardoz referenceBuddhaHat

The last three to six months of the movie was done on Zoom, and this whole sequence was done digitally. Every single character. It's all composed in one big shot. That was the last task, and it was a real head-scratcher. But it was brilliant. It worked really well. In fact, one of my friends was, like, “Oh, I thought that was all acted on the stage.” And I'm like, well, I've done my job okay then.
DNEG animation director Robyn Luckham discusses his work on Denis Villeneuve’s masterful epic adaptation of the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic
- That scene is totally believable until Paul's visor comes up and you can see his face. It didn't look bad on big screen but rewatching at home it's noticeable.thumb_screws
- After a re-watch I love this movie even more.thumb_screws
- it looked in the trailer already llike sfx. but badly done ..neverscared
- yeah those few moments look like he is in a zoom meeting :D but hey, the rest is awesome, isn't?:)sted
- the only part of the movie that looked fakehotroddy
- These types of scenes never 'feel' real. It's all too perfectly choreographed, too fast. Need to watch again.formed

Oh that is bullshit. Going to be some modern glossy adaptation of shit.
2 words. Alejandro Jodorowsky.
- Jodorowsky's plan for Dune was to make a movie that isn't Dune.noneck
- Jodorowsky didn't even read the book and didn't know how it ended. His vision was bullshit.i_monk
- He was an artist.severian
- pink floyd woulda been nice. too bad everything was great sounding besides alejandro—i'm just going to change the endingjaylarson
- Jodorowsky did give the world Giger thoughmugwart
- @mugwart hmm what ?i_was
- I know someone who worked with him. Apparently he's a bit of a dick.detritus
- when the film went down, Scott pinched the principle designers. One of them was Giger.mugwart

I watched Dune 2 twice this weekend. It was like watching one of my kids in a school production - it's never, ever going to be bad. However appallingly acted, technically inept, shoddily produced my love for their performance abides and defines the experience.
There's so much about the film that rocks hard: Villeneuve's direction, the costume design, the sound design, the cinematography, the score, the art direction... the lore, the humour... Giedi Prime, Feyd-Routha, the final fight scene, The voice, the unborn child, Stilgar, Validimir Harkonen... Paul getting all shouty when he addresses the Fremen... Chani getting rejected... Lady Jessica stoving the Harkonan soldiers head in... Riding the Shai-Hulud...and on and on.
It's imperfect, intricate, magnificent, visually and aurally stunning and if you have the desire? somewhere to lose yourself for 3 hours. I want to watch it again.
Silence!
- ok fine i'll give it another look...hans_glib

I loved it but then again I love all of Denis Villeneuve work ... didn’t see it in a theater but with my sound system and big screen TV it was a fun ride.
Looking forward to part II
- I thought the sound/music was so loud in the theater that it was at times hard to hear the dialogue. Did you find that to be the case watching at home?MondoMorphic
- No not too bad ... I found I had to lower the volume down a couple of times when the couch began to reverberate lol
but overall no.Ramanisky2 - But I can totally see how in the theater the sound levels can be too much.Ramanisky2
- Saw it in the theater yesterday. Loved it! I've the read the books many times over and I'm delighted with this cast, the beautiful visuals and score. A+misterhow

All DP heads will enjoy this:
Frasier is likely one of the most innovative DPs working today. Deakins, Bob Elswit etc all have amazing taste, but i think Greig's really going to push the medium forward over the next 20 years, The work on The Batman, the Dune movies, Madalorian – someone to watch for sure.
- For me, Roger Deakins is and always will be the best.Wordsworth
- Oh baby I hear the blues a-callin’, tossed salad and scrambled eggs.nb
- Totally agree Wordsworth, and indeed my fave (along with Elswit) but in terms of harnessing new tech and not being afraid of it, Fraser is great !DaveO
- pango2
- Never actually seen the show.i_monk
- It's a great showcrazyprick
- The original run was great, highly recommended. The Netflix run.. not so much. RIP John Dunsworth.garbage
