I think Ed Harris is a spy from a rival company or the government. If a theme park can have that technology in this future world there must be others competing with its tech etc. I dunno. I don't care, just take me on a journey man!
I also have this feeling that men of means would actually forgo all that cowboy shit and just be banging women all the time. Sex park style. LOL .

@Driftmonkey, no clue about the dude in the ditch, I think you might be onto something though. The other guy was sawing his head off to get at the delicious information inside, so maybe yes, he was destroying his head to destroy whatever was inside it.
Don't know if he could have succeeded, as this wouldn't likely destroy all the info any kind of hard drive or flash drive I've ever seen.
Another question is how he managed to wake up out of sleep mode and not respond to the prompts from the lady's tablet thing.
- Yeah, Maeve "woke up" too. I have no idea what's happening, and I fucking love it.DRIFTMONKEY

I think that the co-creator of the park, Arnold, **30 years ago** created the man in black, as a robotic host, to be his avatar to work to instill consciousness in the hosts of the park.
You'll remember that no incident has happened inside the park in *30 years.* This has got to be because Arnold went out in some blaze of insanity to try to make his creations self-aware.
the MIB is trying to burrow into their unconscious minds to make them remember, make them have some continuity across their days, and have the wherewithal to break out of the endless cycle of forgetting that has them enslaved.
there's also gonna be a human/robot romance between our white-hat guest and Dolores. loved the ending to episode 3
- I'm so happy we all have a show to theorize about again.DRIFTMONKEY
- So, that dude stuck in the ditch... are we thinking he did himself in to protect what was happening inside his head? Did Arnold make him do it?DRIFTMONKEY

Are the guns special and don't shoot real bullets?
Could a guest kill another guest by accident?- I couldn't stop thinking about this. How are stray bullets not a concern?DRIFTMONKEY
- In the movie, the gun given to guests have heat sensors that mean they cannot be fired towards a human. But this now makes me wonder: are the robot whores cold?Luda

"McPoyle" might be a different timeline altogether. Theory he may be the man black seems a stretch, but you have to admit, there is enough here to suggest this happened in the past.
- that's a good one, didn't think of thatRamanisky2
- and makes a lot of sense.Ramanisky2
- second episode in and we're making assumptions like this. What an awesome show.Ianbolton

My favorite scene so far has to be Maeve waking up from surgery, and stumbling into the facility. We see Abernathy lose it over a "photo" he could not explain... Can you fucking imagine the fear, the absolute terror of seeing what she saw, knowing only the old west. The facility is unexplainable to someone completely sensitized to their contrived condition. Then, BAM! You see all these naked corpses that appear to be just disposed of like refuse. It's a brilliant scene, showing us, the audience what we already know, but through the eyes of someone(thing) that could not possibly process what is happening. I would make a correlation to what it would be like if one of us, suddenly woke up on an alien ship. There would be no comprehension or understanding of anything. You would most likely pass out from shock, or have a heart attack from the terror.

- That's the same form we make our interns sign.BK
- 'grab em by the pussy' ...
is that anywhere in this consent form?Ramanisky2

In the first episode they were pretty cavalier about the MIB scalping that native american guy... racial violence against native americans still gets a pass with much less thought than against other peoples.
- It's called creative license.cannonball1978
- Besides, nobody bats an eye when the injuns come a scalpin'cannonball1978
- though scalping was invented by native americans, it was more frequently perpetrated by colonists. and it's surely racial, tantamount to lynching for blackssarahfailin

Harris is probably a radical hating all artificial intelligence and progress. That is why he loves shooting the hosts.
- He is one though. Are you thinking Bladerunner style?HAYZ1LLLA
- I must admit though I missed the first 10mins of the show. haha.HAYZ1LLLA
- he wasn't able to be shot at the beginning, as in he was a guest, not a host. but i was thinking he was a bot too.cruddlebub
- I'm thinking he's more of a metal robot. Not like the others.HAYZ1LLLA

I liked it as well.
The man in black (ed harris), I think he's just a guest. Which is why he can't be harmed by any of the hosts.
Milk? no clue yet.
Flies? Maybe so they could say, "She wouldn't hurt a fly. To which she would then smack the shit out of a fly. I dunno.
I totally forgot about the 70's movie Westworld. In the first episode they mentioned the last time there was a "problem" was 30 years ago - wonder if they were referring to the events from the movie?
But I really like the subtle editing to make the glitches and facial expressions. Read an article yesterday (which I can't find for some reason) that talked about the acting and editing and mentioned the movie which I had forgotten about, but immediately remembered the cover artwork from when I was a kid at the video store.
- Yeah the older robot that Ford talks to at the end is awesomecannonball1978
- Er not at the end... in the lab I meancannonball1978
- The man in black was a robot in the movie.
But James Marsden couldn't shoot him, so I don't know.freedom - 30 years ago was obviously a reference to the movie.freedom
- i'll point out that the 70's were 40 years ago, not 30 ;_; we're all aging incredibly rapidly.sarahfailin
- 1973 is the year it came out.sarahfailin

If you have HBO Go, HBO Now you can watch the second episode already

So James Marsden arrives with the real people on the train every day and turns down the hooker every day?
- I was wondering how the 2 females on the train knew he was a droid ... Unless this wasn't they're first time at Westworld.Ramanisky2
- Ram, I got the sense the roboids came online while already on the train.DRIFTMONKEY

did anyone else get that Cabin in the Woods feel??
