UK government adopts teacher-assessed grades in England in major U-turn
https://www.theguardian.com/poli…- woah... huge embarrassment (again).fadein11
- Lol.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯PhanLo - should take the mid point between algo and teachers marks, and add 5%. would be fair enough.shapesalad
- don't see why tests couldn't have happened. 50 students in a big hall, windows all open, fans keeping air flow.shapesalad
- plus masks on everyone. could they not done that?shapesalad
- if anyone needs testing it's the tory government, doubt they'd pass the 11+ ... the fucking idiotsBluejam
- test what? what about the curriculum? Coursework? It's not just exams. No way you could re-jig it with no time and the schools closed.Fax_Benson
- Unis are under-subscribed this year anyway due to the pandemic. Deferrals, fewer foreign students etc. Could have just gone with teacher assessment wks agoFax_Benson
- and so what if a few kids scrape into uni with generous grades...Fax_Benson
- Exactly fax.fadein11
- Utter shitstorm for Uni admissions now though. Accepted many on courses that may be oversubscribed and now have to also take on those refused a few days ago.fadein11
- ... and it's only MondayBluejam
- @bluejam, the week in tory always starts with a bang, and continues day by day :)fadein11
- Boris is having a rubbish holidayPhanLo

... lolBluejam - hahafadein11
- i build distance learning degrees/ masters and applications are up this year for my courses, worried in case they try to restructure our dept.kingsteven
- as i'm at the top of my pay grade and i can do 10x students but wont be worth it if i have to deal with more tutors and admin staff.kingsteven

£350m a week sent to the EU instead of spent on the NHS.... that was the Boris Brexit Bus...
“Extra Costs
With 400 million extra customs declarations needed annually, and each costing an average of 32.50 pounds, the extra paperwork will add about 13 billion pounds of costs to U.K.-EU trade annually. And if companies don’t have the right documents, their goods risk being held up at ports, causing traffic jams and supply chain disruption.”
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/a…
13b works out around 250m a week. This is just one extra cost. Pretty sure the others when added to this will exceed the 350m that was on the bus (which turned out to be inflated and false anyway).
- The shitstorm of Covid + Brexit has only just begun, we are truly fucked.fadein11
- It's impressive that people still believe Brexit will improve their lives. Hat's off to the mad bastards.PhanLo
- I'd almost be impressed with the genius of the swindle if it wasn't so dangerous and depressing.fadein11
- Given post C19 inflationary measures, it's actually probably better for it that the UK is able to hard-set its own measures and value outwith an EU context.Nairn
- Although I'd super quick swap that for a multi-Tn pool of resource that we could be part of within the EU, but hey.Nairn

Visiting the EU from Jan 2021:
https://www.gov.uk/visit-europe-…
Will need comprehensive health insurance, international driving license, permit if taking car across on Eurostar, A sim card or prepare to pay £££ for mobile phone roaming and new pet travel requirements.
Oh and all paper work delayed due to Covid-19....
People voted for this tuckering shite. And people ripped EU citizenship from 50% of the population against their will.
- And this is all 'might need' as 5.5 months before deadline we still haven't got anything sorted with EU.shapesalad
- If UK reciprocate... or if there's any hassle for EU tourists to UK, forget about quick weekends in London, gigs, theatre, restaurants etc. Dead....shapesalad
- Brexit on top of Corona = death to London's entertainment industry, exhibitions, theatre, etc etc.shapesalad
- Who from EU is going to pop to London for the weekend to catch an exhibition, west end play, fancy restaurant and club in shoreditch? With covid + brexit.shapesalad
- I'm super relieved to now have my SWE citizenship and I will never relocate back to the UK, but I am really worried for my family there. Pure shambles.face_melter
- You need health insurance anyway and as you point out it's all mights and maybes at this stage. Calm down. Personally I foresee another year's due process.Nairn
- we've gone past the point where extra time/process could be a possibility, this is it ... come january '21... we're on our own, deal or no deal ...Bluejam
- Well... it's just going to be shite, no matter what. There isn't going to be any moment where you think, 'ah cool, this is better now'...shapesalad
- eg, before, just use the e-gate at airport, now queue up and be inspected by staff... nothing cool and quick about that to think about...shapesalad
- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯d_gitale
- Just marry a nice EU girlChimp
- I reckon I'll apply for an Irish passport, just in case the UK turns to shit and people start eating each other.PhanLo

Laughing stock of the world and this newly decorated buffoon carrierfadein11 - won't help anything.fadein11

- > 1980's BA chic.
Don't! I actually love the old BA/BOAC branding. This is not that. This is Saudi-esque tacky crapNairn - Bet Dom's gonna use it to see his parentsBluejam
- @nairn, I know, they were cool and creative, it was merely a ref to the tail decoration.fadein11

- Were these the cunts that got bopped by a bunch of Wrexham fans? I saw some noise about it on Twitter.face_melter

- I truly hope there is some kind of reckoning.
They don't even bother pretending to try anymore.fadein11 - still cant work out whether its their incompentence & stupidity that has got us here or they're just evil bastardsBluejam
- A delusion that their success was earned rather than simply handed to them. Along with a teflon coating against any shame or consequence.monoboy
- The complete inability to empathise shows exactly how out of touch they are with the people they're meant to serve. Or do we serve them now?Ianbolton
- I truly hope there is some kind of reckoning.

"Pick #brexit Pick being conned by inbred toffs telling you immigrants now trying to save you were fucking up your life. Pick exploitative slave labour wages in ‘jobs’ you will replace them in. Pick all the shite you didn’t read on the side of a bus. Or don’t. It’s picked for you."
https://twitter.com/IrvineWelsh/…- Choose, poorly, to pastiche an irony-laden criticism of modern society from TrainspottingNairn
- oh, haha, I didn't even see the Irvine Welsh tweet :)Nairn
- Why does it increasingly feel like we're stuck on one of the shitty ancillary ships in the ever-dwindling BSG fleet?Nairn

- May I ask why? i actually think the UK's C19 branding's pretty good. It should be given it's the distillate of decades of socio- psychological insightNairn
- It's become so effective that they've changed it recently because of concerns people are too scared to do Anything.

- Umm, i was being serious, but sarcasm also works. Haha! As if! Not bloody likely! Amirite?? I'm not wrong! :DKhurram

is this Brexit circus thing still going on? WTF!?
- ∞PhanLo
- ^Krassy
- There are a number of political commentators who suggest it will actually go on for decades.
Yaay?Nairn - It all somewhat reminds me of Charles Dickens' Bleak House.Nairn
- the people voted 3 years ago; what's going on? by now the UK could have left and re-entered the EU! hahaKrassy
- it was always going to take at least 2 yrs (now 3+) to agree a withdrawal agreement. Then 2 more for a transition period while a trade agreement sorted...Fax_Benson
- which could take 5+ yearsFax_Benson
- brexit years seem to take twice as longFax_Benson
- ridiculous, any way you look at it. Should have never been up for a vote (in the form it was put up for a vote) in the first place!Krassy

Where do these ghouls keep coming from? Each more hellish than the last.Fax_Benson - Jesus...OBBTKN
- I've never really understood Widdicombe's appeal - she's hardly endearing; The virgin queen she ain't, just an unloveable unfuckable mess of a thing.Nairn
- That said, I can't understand the appeal of any of these Brexiters, or most Conservatives.
Or, indeed, most fucking politicians.Nairn - I find the conduct and inclusion of the Brexit party in this context quite disgusting - I bet the EU cannot fucking wait to see the back of us, and rightly-so.Nairn
- how dare!
she's a proper British Battleaxe™, telling those dodgy johnny foreigners where to stick it!hans_glib - don't really care about the spinster thing but yeah, her public TV 'rehabilitation' a few years back was totally uncalled for - she's always been a wrong-unFax_Benson
