We've got drunk and stormed out of our own party only to realize that we've gone through the wrong door and are standing in the dark in the shoe cupboard. Going back out now, with everyone talking about us, is obviously not an option, so we're going to have to tape up the gaps around the door frame and wait for the oxygen to run out.
- hahahaPhanLo
- lolfadein11
- it's happening and I have prepared myself for the worst (expensive plumbing and unpicked fruit). Let's hope the EU feels sorry for the half of the country andfadein11
- helps us out a little.fadein11
- You forgot to mention that before we stormed out the p-p-p-party - we all danced like PM T.May in Africa recently.shapesalad
- lold_gitale
- so what happened to the UK, grandad?
well, one night back in the 20-tens, they suffocated themselves in a shoe cupboard out of pride and stubbornnessFax_Benson - lol fax, you do make me laughfadein11

i dunno. as a remainer i'm getting pretty fucked off with the eu. they're so effing arrogant, lording it over their subjects, refusing to accept they're anything but right. and yet there's so much wrong with the institution, not least their constant over-lavish summits. i voted remain, but have always felt the eu needs to become more accountable to its members (us, the people)
as a result of this salzburg intransigence, i'm starting to think we should just tell them to stuff it, get the fuck out, and watch the cracks spread.
the eu needs to change - if they'd made any concessions to that fact before the brexit vote we'd probably have voted to stay in.
but no, they know best, and anyone who complains is wrong.
it's the beginnings of autocracy, and it'll backfire if they don't start adapting to some of these complaints.
unless of course, we're all being played.
- from someone living in a constitutional monarchy... :)uan
- but I agree, we are all being played in some or another wayuan
- agree with the arrogant accountability. They and Cameron could and should have seen some of this coming and committed to some genuine reformsFax_Benson
- *unaccountabilityFax_Benson
- Maybe Cameron put forward this referendum to scare the EU into evolving, but that backfired. I personally don't think anyone really knows what they're doing.Ianbolton
- The EU finally jumped the shark with their stupid internet copyright laws and banning memes.NBQ00
- We're trying to get out of a largely legal framework. Things we're demanding are effectively illegal under EU's own terms.
We can't / won't understand thatFax_Benson - the eu made the rules, and they refuse to believe those rules need to be changed.hans_glib
- we wrote the rules along with the other member states. EU is legally bound to them.Fax_Benson
- Understand the sentiment, but I think better to be in it, have our peeps like Farage in there keeping them on their toes.shapesalad
- We leave, and they'll continue to do their best to prove UK is wrong and slowly ruin the UK.shapesalad
- As pointed out we pay for the Royal family lavishness. History has taught us only one thing - humans always have leaders, tribal, kings, governments etc.shapesalad
- I'd rather be ruled by the EU than just the UK, especially since the current parliament contains nothing but chancers, jokers and bad dancers.shapesalad
- As Fax points out, the UK had a large part of influencing and participating in the shaping of the rules of the EU.shapesalad
- i'll take your word for it tho i suspect we were outvoted on stuff we wanted. otherwise we wouldn't be complaining, surely?hans_glib
- "chancers, jokers and bad dancers." sadly that pretty much sums up the eu politicos as wellhans_glib
- EU is just the Euro version of the US federal government. Without it and high-level cooperation/coordina... this continent will get annihilated by the blocs.The_Reprisalizer

"May has attempted to deliver regulatory sovereignty and frictionless trade which simply is not possible. She has attempted to address the issues but is primarily concerned with keeping her backbenchers at bay. She has failed miserably. Chequers is little more than a triangulation between her self-imposed red lines and the problems at hand while trying her best not to lose the next election and to keep her job until Brexit day at least."

someone comments well:
"Bus driver; We are totally lost the road is gone and we are heading for a cliff edge!
Passengers; Just get on with it.... !"and:
"Get on what what? The Norway model? The Swiss model? The Canada plus model? No deal? Customs union? Border in the Irish sea? Hard border in Northern Ireland? WTO model? Get on with it? Get on with what?"
ha ha, that is precisely the Leave voters naive 'get on with it' nonsense.
- We can create our own model.
The 'Legend' model, with a whole country of legends just being jolly old British bell ends.PhanLo

If the referendum in 2016 had asked it like the follow, I think we would have remained in:
Do you want to stay in the EU and keep playing the Euro-millions lottery and buying cheap German salami and Italian Prosecco from Lidl and Aldi?
Or see Theresa May as the prime minister doing a dance in Africa, coming up with a nonsense deal called chequers and eventually we leave the EU but are in the pretty much the same situation as before only with more expensive stuff in shops, more expensive holidays, weak sterling, all those pesky immigrants are still here and we don't have any peeps in the EU such as Farage to ruffle the EU feathers?
- More like wrexit amirite. Ever notice all the Brexit "leaders" are a million fvcking miles away nowThe_Reprisalizer
- shapesalad0
- exactly. best deal in whole of the EU and we went and fucked it for us and everyone else.fadein11
- "because immigrants..." lol. we only took 3000 refugees from last crisis, Germany took 350,000... the power of the media in this shitty little Island, fucked usfadein11
- all.fadein11
- the 'liberal media' holds no power this side of the pond.fadein11
- Fax_Benson0
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more ridiculous, here come Labour.
No wonder they were keeping their brexit position a secret.
- Labour are fucking mentalFax_Benson
- Labour are like the school odd bods. Not clever enough to be top of the class or nerds. Not sporty to be the jocks or bullies. Not shy to be the quiet ones.shapesalad
- The ones that do enough work to pass, make everyone aware of their opinions, try to make others follow them. Odd.shapesalad
- Corbyn and Diane Abbott leading the country... Just don't see working. Not smart enough, not enough common sense or economic sense, and... they're just odd.shapesalad
- Personally I want the EU to sack the entire UK parliament. Get rid of the house of Lords. Parachute in the best EU mp's to get the UK back in shape.shapesalad
- they never had a position for fear of losing their northern strongholds who thought they were so shit they voted for UKIP lol. Yep, Labour is lost for now.fadein11
- Yet Corbyn fans think he is storming ahead, they considered 60 local seat gains (out of 1000's) a victory against the worst UK govt in living memory. Deluded.fadein11

- Your name always me think of series.mugwart
- It was the name of his radio 1 series,
so yeah, i stole itBluejam - Can we get 90's late night Radio 1 schedule back after Brexit? well, exept Lamaq, the future can keep Lamaq.kingsteven
- Blue Jam was brilliant.fadein11
- 90s Radio 4 would be good too. 90s radio in general.Fax_Benson
- The sketch where he throughs himself off a low balcony multiple times instead of a high one would also kinda workThe_Reprisalizer

An immensely dry and quite thorough outline of why Maplin failed:
https://www.theregister.co.uk/20…
Apply this to House of Fraser or any other such large retail high street business that over-reached and failed due to investment expectation and onerous interest payment obligations...
....not ‘Brexit’, as is often unthinkingly trotted out as the fault.
- the real nightmare of brexit is that it will obscure, and be blamed for, all the myriad stuff we have and are in the process of fucking upFax_Benson
- including brexitFax_Benson
- The drop in the value of the pound after the Brexit vote was touted as the final nail in the coffin by Maplin's management... the article is about thekingsteven
- re-financing of the company years earlier. It doesn't contradict that claim in any way...kingsteven
- and who the fuck is blaming 'brexit' for businesses closing other than the knock on effects of economic uncertainty to businesses already in the red?kingsteven
- Interesting article but really, two totally separate issues... Capitalism thread plz.kingsteven
- If you're trying to imply that brexit will have no adverse affect on UK business you're deluded. If anything this article highlights how dangerous brexit is.The_Reprisalizer
- I'm not implying anything - I'm putting this here because there were a couple of QBNers who specifically blamed brexit when Maplin imploded. hence here.Nairn
- UK High street retail (including the likes of Jamie Oliver's schlumpire) is vastly over-extended , with far too much of a weight of expectation placed on it.Nairn
- Although I do find it amusing how froth-mouthed and red-faced people react when anything that even begins to not blindingly support remain crops up...Nairn
- It's like national veganism.Nairn
- Yup, Maplins had nothing to do with Brexit, it was fucked for years. There are other examples where Brexit applies though.fadein11
- You seem to be saying that a few mysterious QBN'rs linked Brexit (something that hasn't happened yet) with Maplin closing and trying to argue that this is BSkingsteven
- by using an article that doesn't disprove that it wasn't the effect of the weak pound after the vote (as stated by Maplin management) that was the final nail inkingsteven
- the coffin. Politics aside you're as bad as anyone who said it was a direct effect of Brexit as you are attempting to make a clickbait headline of an articlekingsteven
- 'Mysterious QBners', eh? Crikey, I had no idea I was being so furtive! The timeline suggested here implies their fate was sealed prior to 2014Nairn
- with no relevance to the argument that the Brexit vote didn't have an effect. The article is great, Brexit may have economic benefits, you are talking BSkingsteven
- As for management blaming Brexit for their woes, well - colour me shocked.
Shocked, I tell thee!Nairn - This seems like as good a time as any to deploy my favouritest ever meme. NSFW!
https://i.4pcdn.org/…Nairn - Jesus christ man, get a fucking grip. They blamed the weak pound that was a direct economic effect of the vote and this was turned in to the clickbait headlinekingsteven
- "brexit killed maplin" im just saying taking an article about refinancing and framing it as "brexit didn't kill maplin" is just as idiotic.kingsteven
- Crikey, with such borderline histrionics, I'm not sure I'm the one needing to 'get a grip'.Nairn
- I'm perplexed as to where I suggested that 'Brexit might have economic benefits'?
Vegan nationalithm, ladieth and gentlemen, theeth what it wantth to thee.Nairn - Hold on - hitler was a vegan nationalist. I meant 'National Veganism' of course.
Much worse.Nairn - jaysus christ man, no one is outraged, i stated brexit may have economic benefits so you would understand that i'm only questioning your logickingsteven
- Literally the only reason I posted this was because I read it and remembered some people here blaming Maplin's downfall on Brexit.Nairn
- Since doing so, you've gone off on God only knows what tangent, thrown in your own variables, conspiracies and histrionics and here we are.Nairn
- But somehow I must calm down, because .. I'm not sure.Nairn
- Is it windy over there today?Nairn
- histrionics, conspiracies? i'm not the one that invented the NAZVE party up there :-Dkingsteven
- pretty niche, as sidenote-epics go :)Fax_Benson

While we're bumped, a decent explanation of the border issues here from Stephen Pound
