i dunno. as a remainer i'm getting pretty fucked off with the eu. they're so effing arrogant, lording it over their subjects, refusing to accept they're anything but right. and yet there's so much wrong with the institution, not least their constant over-lavish summits. i voted remain, but have always felt the eu needs to become more accountable to its members (us, the people)

as a result of this salzburg intransigence, i'm starting to think we should just tell them to stuff it, get the fuck out, and watch the cracks spread.

the eu needs to change - if they'd made any concessions to that fact before the brexit vote we'd probably have voted to stay in.

but no, they know best, and anyone who complains is wrong.

it's the beginnings of autocracy, and it'll backfire if they don't start adapting to some of these complaints.

unless of course, we're all being played.

    • from someone living in a constitutional monarchy... :)uan
    • but I agree, we are all being played in some or another wayuan
    • agree with the arrogant accountability. They and Cameron could and should have seen some of this coming and committed to some genuine reformsFax_Benson
    • *unaccountabilityFax_Benson
    • Maybe Cameron put forward this referendum to scare the EU into evolving, but that backfired. I personally don't think anyone really knows what they're doing.Ianbolton
    • The EU finally jumped the shark with their stupid internet copyright laws and banning memes.NBQ00
    • We're trying to get out of a largely legal framework. Things we're demanding are effectively illegal under EU's own terms.
      We can't / won't understand that

    • the eu made the rules, and they refuse to believe those rules need to be changed.hans_glib
    • we wrote the rules along with the other member states. EU is legally bound to them.Fax_Benson
    • Understand the sentiment, but I think better to be in it, have our peeps like Farage in there keeping them on their toes.shapesalad
    • We leave, and they'll continue to do their best to prove UK is wrong and slowly ruin the UK.shapesalad
    • As pointed out we pay for the Royal family lavishness. History has taught us only one thing - humans always have leaders, tribal, kings, governments etc.shapesalad
    • I'd rather be ruled by the EU than just the UK, especially since the current parliament contains nothing but chancers, jokers and bad dancers.shapesalad
    • As Fax points out, the UK had a large part of influencing and participating in the shaping of the rules of the EU.shapesalad
    • i'll take your word for it tho i suspect we were outvoted on stuff we wanted. otherwise we wouldn't be complaining, surely?hans_glib
    • "chancers, jokers and bad dancers." sadly that pretty much sums up the eu politicos as wellhans_glib
    • EU is just the Euro version of the US federal government. Without it and high-level cooperation/coordina... this continent will get annihilated by the blocs.The_Reprisalizer
