Just heard about Adobe Experience Manager over the past few days... it's got an average cost of approx $2mil!! Licence costs 500k alone? What the hell, this must be some crazy powerful shit?? I hadn't come across it before - anyone here used it?
Makes sense with the profit figures above Bennn...
- I do work for a national retailer and they use it for website/eComm. I don't love it.ETM
- It was once called Communique (CQ) by Day Software, but Adobe bought it and folded it into the product they now offer as AEM.ETM
- I've heard that it's horrible, and I've seen the horror of sites build using it.mg33
- It's a framework, so it's as good or bad as the developers make the site.ETM
- How does a head of design convince the board to invest in a $2m or $500k licence. You could literally buy and run a team of designers & devs for years on thatshapesalad
- In the scope and budgets I see in this national retailer/eComm scenario, neither is very much money.ETM
- They're generating $100 mil a year on eComm alone and growing 30-40% per year on average.ETM

ADOBE XD or INVISION?
- Sketch and InVision.thumb_screws
- InVision, but I've been using both.zarkonite
- Figma ofcgrafician
- yes, Figma FTW.zarkonite

So I had to make a quick gift certificate for the wife while I was on the road so I downloaded adobe spark on my phone and quickly banged it out using one of their templates. Spark is adobes answer to Canva and it’s just as shitty as Canva but good enough. Gets the job done.
These things are not replacing pro tools and certainly not replacing designers.

Jaysus, the bastards just charged me £119 for an Adobe Xd subscription on an account i haven't used in 5 years... not even an email to say it was coming.
What the fuck even is Xd? Had to recover the password, log in, now trying to get customer service to reverse it. Madness.
- That's basically stealing :))grafician
- got them to cancel by showing them i had full CC subscription on another account. i can't think how that happened, i don't even have Xd installed!kingsteven
- An unused, 5 year old account had a valid CC on file?ETM
- Even weirder is that for years XD (and Bridge) have been free if you're not paying for a sub.evilpeacock
- recently they made XD paid so they will charge, close up any account you used in the pastgrafician
- @evil XD was in beta for free and now they activated the payments for that toografician
- also beware, you can't save and open local files anymore, basically if you don't pay adobe, you can't access your XD projects in the cloud nowgrafician
- hah yeah ETM, expires later this year. Had CC on that account but switched to work account 5 years ago... that explains it with XD then. Feckin' cowboys Ted.kingsteven
- They're breaking their own revenue record every year. 12B last year. They need money to put bread on the table y'know.Bennn
- Figures. I missed any communications on XD going paid, but expected it eventually. I never set it up on a free account anyway.evilpeacock
- there is no more free with Adobe! they want a CC on file with any new "free" accountgrafician
- You most definitely save and open files locally...Gucci

I have one Adobe app open (Illustrator), yet 13x instances of 'CEPHtmlEngine' running.
I try killing them, they pop straight back into existence again.
Why?
- You need to send more money to Adobe to fix this. Thats what they're saying.Bennn

I just updated the latest version of Illustrator (because the old one was a week old).
It would be useful if they changed the little pop up at the start from 'What's New' to 'What's Fucked'
They could then list all the new bugs so you could look out for them. ie just because a swatch is highlighted, it doesn't mean its actually being used by the selected object.
- Never upgrade, it's a trap!grafician
- We have 6 designers, so as soon as one person updates to try and keep working, we all have to.slappy
- There goes your production pipeline @slappygrafician
- Better hope you don't have Catalina in the mix, 'What's Fucked' would be an understatement...grafician
- Adapt or die BUT also, I'm/we're too old for this shit.ideaist
- "ie just because a swatch is highlighted... " oh that drives me fucking nuts - but that's been an on/off glitch since 2017 at least.Nairn
- Same the occasional 'just cos your layer is set to visible, doesn't mean it actually is' glitch.Nairn

Creative cloud seems to have an update every fee days...ffs
- I've seen lots of bugs in the 2020 versions, so perhaps this is a good thing. Last updates for my were 14 days ago, except for XD which is like every week.evilpeacock

- it's the save queue, it isn't new lol.
u get this window when the system still writes the file on the disk and you hit close.sted - haha, this has been driving me nuts too - I presume my behaviour's not changed afer 2 decades of Illy use, so the extra click required here is a novel additionNairn
- Heh, same here, never saw this before.fyoucher1
- It should just go away if you ignore it, but no. It needs to to confirm that you have seen the message that you must wait for 2 seconds. ffsProjectile
- its a noo feachur, get over ithans_glib
- I see this now too. Clearly it takes longer to save files now across all apps!monospaced
- Clearly it's an additional, new behaviour.Nairn
- @mono you rarely get this window with source files under 1g, or a busy hdd. and yeah something is up with the write-out, because it takes longer for small filessted
- Where's my 'Don't show me this again' checkbox?!misterhow
- Who the fuck is Dani?CALLES

- Adobe file bloat. The 2GB file which should really only be 200kb.fyoucher1
- @sted, it happens to me with files fall smaller than 1GB, and i have a fast machinemonospaced
- Most of the files I use are titchy - I just received this helpful notice on a file weighing around 140kb that I was saving and quitting.Nairn
- It can take longer with the newer background save feature, so you'll see this dialog more if you quit a lot and save honking complex or big files.evilpeacock
- Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard > Uncheck "Save in Background" boxrefunktion
- I use InDesign primarily, and edit linked files from AI, PS and ID regularly. This box has made things quite frustrating, and not just on big files.monospaced
- Doesn’t this only happen when you’re quitting at the same time? That’s the only time it pops of for meGnash
- In the old days you couldn’t quit until it was done savingGnash
- Nope, on file close, Gnash.Nairn
- Odd, hadn’t noticedGnash
- it's the save queue, it isn't new lol.

Says fixed, but not fixed...
- I can confirm that ID 14.x was a mess. I never got the app to run even after 14.0.1 "fixed" the problem.
15.x runs again, thankfully.evilpeacock - text hotkey starts going haywire and then my computer starts heating up and then ya got Trump toocanoe

Someone in my little office just started to cuss and yell. Come to find out Illustrator has Revert to Saved as Command + Option + Z. No way to go back, lost all her work.

Since upgrading to Catalina at home I've found CC has slowly ground to a halt. Granted it's an older iMac, but I can't be bothered with the bloat; I now have Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher and they run smoothly.
- CC is bloated BUT hoping with the push for mobile (finally!) they'll lighten up desktop also.
Affinity fucking rocks BUT finding time to transition is lacking.ideaist - Yeah I'm easing into it with some freelance work.i_monk
- I’m afraid of the Catalina upgradeGnash
- Don’t do it. I upgraded on a 2019 mbp and had a fucking ‘mare downgrading. Wacom + CC + Shatalina = Fuck you (in a Stephen hawking voice)MrT

A partner company (15 people) a view years ago bought 5 licences for adobe acrobat cloud.
Adobe says we can only use 2 Users per licence at the same time.
In this company there are more people who share this IDs and it works more or less so far, cause users drop others out from time to time.
Does Adobe allow more than 2 users logged in with the same id/email if they do not use Acrobat at the same time or is it strict with logins already?
curious, how do others handle sharing same IDs in a company?
- you mean... breaking the contract?ArchitectofFate
- try little snitch, to block the software contacting server once logged in. not strictly legal, but...shapesalad
- @architectofFate
not really. it is allowed to use the licences that the compnay bought, they do not need it all the time. i just want to find out how it works..api - think i have to call adobe support.api
- @shapesalad thanks for the tip. i forget to say it's a windows enviroment and we do not plan to block things - just use it effective.api
- You can use 1 license simultaneously on 2 machines.Gnash
- thx, Got it! It’s called floating licences.api

A 'big' Photoshop update just released
Whats new? > https://petapixel.com/2020/02/19…
- what's new? It will be an even bigger resource hog and we'll all need to upgrade hardware for it.hotroddy

So following on from my 'CEPHtmlEngine'-related illustrator woes above, I followed some advice (as linked by gnash) and hard-axed the CEPHtmlEngine directory, which mostly solves the problem - I just have to click a couple of warnings on startup to get going. Tolerable.
Except - another of my previous Adobe-related whinges about 'Lucky1234-AIVMFile1234567890' files building up in the temp folder on my boot drive (an SSD) has gone into fucking over-drive.
It's generating 26x 16Mb files EVERY. FUCKING. MINUTE. which as I'm sure you can imagine fairly quickly fills up the harddisk there. I've only just realised how bad the problem is when I couldn't save a file because.. well, no useful error ...but I assumed it was due to space being low somwhere, and indeed it was.
How can Adobe be this fucking useless? Both of these are on-going issues spanning years now.
- I've dealt with that engine helper shit for years. At one point I remember even doing some under the hood terminal shit to solve it.monospaced
- Only recently saw those rumours about Apple taking them over. I’m on the fence but you would imagine this sort of shit would stop at least.MrT
- I think Apple would be better off buying Affinity and really pushing it with a fuck ton of investment. They could afford Adobe, but it'd be costly.Nairn
- Having checked - buying Adobe would be at least 4x bigger a buy-out than any other Apple have made.Nairn
- I’m the Adobe of business advice.MrT
