Tried to pick up running this year (can't do much else). I've got runner's knee (left), plantar fasciitis pain (left foot), pain in my right hip, which don't know what is. Granted my bones were not prepared for asphalt running and with some time I would eventually adapt, but... Fuck running, always hated it.

Any other of you have psoriasis? I've had it for year, and I'm using these stupid steroid ointments and gels to clear it up.

The one thing I'm never sure of is how long to leave them on the skin. All of the dermatologists I've ever seen keep telling me, 'as long as you can,' but that really doesn't tell me much.

If I need to get dress and go out, and I've got this shit on my elbows or hands, well, that's grease stains on my clothes.

Grr. What's the minimum amount of time these things should stay before wiping off?

    • *had it for yearsContinuity
    • I get it, but then sometimes it just fucks off for no reason.Ianbolton
    • Those hydrocortisone creams are the worst for greasiness. More grease than a 50's heart throbs hair style!!Ianbolton
    • I've had it for years too and have seen improvement this year (despite unusual stress). I've given up on the Daivobet cream and its cortisone, and instead wentspl33nidoru
    • Yeah, they're awful. It'd be nice to leave them on for, say, 30 min, wipe them off, then get on with your day. Urgh.Continuity
    • Dont have it myself, but Ive heard there is a cure, a series of injectionsdrgs
    • the natural route with allepo soap (the less fancy the better) + psoriasis specific herbal tea (1L of it a day) + exercice (even just 1h walks).spl33nidoru
    • Continuity, if you go on using the ointment, better to use it at night so you sleep through the greasiness, and use regular moisturising cream in the morning.spl33nidoru
    • Yeah, the problem is it will rub off on my sheets/duvet anyway. Then I'll have greasy stains on that, too. Ugh. Psoriasis and its treatment is balls.Continuity

    • The results in a controled study = no weight loss, but is fasting about that?!grafician
    • Fasting will shake up your eating habits, most people experience a positive outcome because they clean away their bad eating routine.zarkonite
    • but this survey is in line with the rest of the scientific litterature, fasting doesn't produce weight loss in itself.zarkonite
    • fasting is good for your brain.imbecile
    • ^yeah, that's why
but ppl seem to do it to lose weight, weird
      grafician
    • The theory that I read in terms of weight loss is that intermittent fasting can reduce insulin levels, which makes you less hungry as a result.yuekit
    • In my experience it does work. Within the past month I tried exercising and controlling my diet for a couple weeks and lost almost nothing. Then did veryyuekit
    • simple fasting from 8pm to 12pm everyday and surprisingly lost weight even without exercising much. The most interesting part was my hunger level droppedyuekit
    • significantly after about a week of doing this. So overall I think there is something to it, might not work for everyone but if nothing else you will save moneyyuekit

    Well, I finally got there.

Just did a fat caliper test this morning: it took a 750 kcal/day deficit, 6 days a week of lifting, and 4 15-min HIIT cardio sessions per week, but I went from a revolting 21-22% BF @ 82 kg on 8 June to just shy of 8.3% BF @ 78 kg this morning.

Time to start a lean bulk!

Oh, and lesson learned: BIA scales are as useless as tits on a bull.

    • Also, eat your fucking complex carbs.Continuity
    • Lean mass from 65kg to 71,5kg, I did the math...drgs
    • Yeah, which sounds a bit impossible in a three-month span.Continuity
    • The other possibility is that I way over-estimated my starting BF%. Which is possible, I was using a combo of the mirror, reference photos and my stupid scales.Continuity
    • Assuming you have been lifting before and have some muscle memory, perfectly doable. Professional bodybuilders gain 5kgs in a day when carbing updrgs
    • I weighted 58 kgs at my lowest in 2003 (my problem was the opposite, I was too skinny). I gained 15 kg the first year, all lean. 82 kg nowdrgs
    • 5 kg in a day? That's gear, my friend, not carbs.
But yeah, I've overall been lifting for about 1.5 yrs, constantly (except for lockdown).
      Continuity
    • They cut down on carbs for some weeks before a competition, the muscles become sensitive to insulin, then they carb up on the very last daydrgs
    • Muscles are mostly glycogen and water... Density comes with years.drgs
    • True.
Wait ... 58?! God damn, man. How tall are you?
      Continuity
    • Though I shouldn't be surprised ... I spent my teenaged years, my 20s, and part of my 30s looking like I only occupied 2D space, I was so skinny.Continuity
    • I'm 181cm. That's BMI 18, underweight, well not anymoredrgs
    • I'm 183, so standing next to you, I would still look rail thin.Continuity
    • In any case, I want to try finishing the year out with 82-83 kg @ 10% BF. We'll see if I can make that happen, and then see where I go from there.Continuity

Do any of you do intermittent fasting?

I’ve been familiar with it for a while and my barber swears by it. I get the science behind it and the benefit of packing roughly 2 1/2 meals into 8 hours and being able to have those meals be more substantial than if you were starting the day with a decent breakfast.

So, I started today and was so much more easily able to plot out my food for the day and stick to my 40:30:30 macros, protein, fat, carbs. It was easier to apply and IIFYM approach and allow for moderate bad stuff like ice cream.

7am - 12pm was a struggle but that might have been because I had vitamins and supplements on an empty stomach. Once I had an electrolyte drink that I usually have each morning, I felt better. Also had lots of green tea.

I’m intrigued by the claims of energy and/or reduced brain fog by way of the fasted period and not starting the day potentially with shitty high-glycemic carbs and sugar.

I hope it’s not wishful thinking but I can envision finding the same enjoyment with this that I do Keto: a strict regimented approach to eating with plenty of research and anecdotal success stories to back it up, and a sort of gamification mindset in which I have to carefully plan my food to stay within my macros.

    • interesting. was thinking of starting - especially if it counters brain fog.inteliboy
    • Do you plan on eating mechanically for the rest of your life?zarkonite
    • I love eating, cooking, sharing meals with family and friends to much to make my meals a task. But I admire you, you sound like a very focused guy.dmay

I've lost 5kgs cutting alcohol intake (still do beers with friends on weekends) and eating less meat, without much effort...

Started bike training past week (2 short rides of 40kms and 1 of 80kms) will see if I can get rid of another 10kgs by spring next year and achieve the goal of 90kgs weight.

A tall mofo here, need to loss this weight and improve my climbing skills for a pair of bike races next summer.

PD.: This and stop smoking forever (I smoke only a pair of cigars when dinning with friends).

I'm on Day 2 of Jeff Cavaliere's ab workout app, as a tag-on to my recent switch to a 4-day upper/lower split from Stronglifts 5x5.

The ab workout is basically 5 minutes of super-setting 4-5 different ab exercises. It's fucking murder. My abs would cry and get into the fetal position in the corner, if they could.

    Perfect winter drink:

    1 Teaspoon of Bovril.
    2 Teaspoons of Lard.
    + boiling hot water
+ (optional 1 teaspoon of instant coffee if you need a caffeine boost)

    • Except modern Bovril's just yeast extract with a bit of concentrated beef stock in for flavour.Nairn
    • Huh, well shut my mouth - it's actually got beef in it these days? WTF? Last time i checked it was all yeasty?!Nairn
    • Beef Broth (50%) [Water, Beef Bones],
Yeast Extract (27%) [contains Barley, Wheat, Oats, Rye], Salt, Water, Colour, Corn Starch, Beef Powder, MSG
      Nairn
    • Well, demi-MSGNairn
    • I thought the same until I saw beef was back in it. MSG is fine, it's naturally found in Kelp seaweed.shapesalad
    • I must admit Bovril would be better without the 27% yeast extract as that tends to overwhelm the beef taste. Bring back beef tea I say:shapesalad
    • http://www.foodsofen… A lovely cup of Beef Tea. Yummyshapesalad
