I am resurrecting this old thread, to see who else is vegetarian here on QBN.

I am slowly switching my diet to vegetarian over these last weeks... and would love to hear people's experience on the matter.

    • I have been gradually doing it over the last ten years. I barely each chicken, some fish and never beef.vero_vandal
    • Thanks Vero, is there a reason for your decision to slowly eat less and less meat?Fabricio

    I'm vegetarian.
I stopped eating meat 20 years ago.
Initially I was vegetarian but after the second year I started to eat fish.
I stopped eating fish again three and a half years ago.
I eat cheese and one to two eggs a week.
I don't eat yogurt or drink milk unless it's in a cake or something like that.
I rarely eat honey but will start to do it more often.

    Everything's fine.
Don't have B12 problems cause I eat eggs and cheese.

When I cook it's mainly vegan and except for Pizza I try to go vegan as much I can.

I eat lots of vegetables and fruit. Bio.
I did that already but since seven years ago I started eating raw veggies.

Now I eat even more cause I'm working on Saturday's selling Bio Veggies and Fruits in a vending stand in a local market.

In winter I make lots of soup...one every two days...I live with 5 more :)

    Salads as much I can.

Was always fit and did lots of test recently cause I turned 40 and in Germany I can do lots of stuff for free every two years.

I don't have the same energy from two years ago.
But that's cause I changed my clock drastically two years ago and haven't been able to do so much sport like when I was in Amsterdam...basically some runs and Wing Tsun.

Go for it Fab! It's not difficult and it's delicious!
And it's good for you and for so many things.

    ;)

When you cook just try to avoid certain soya stuff, where do they grow, bio, fair trade, no gene bullshit, etc...

    Enjoy!

    Abraço rapa! Saudade!

    • Thank you so much Oey! Obrigado rapá :)
It is more of a moral decision, and also global climate, etc... but honestly, im started to get disgusted with meat...
      Fabricio
    • Also saw a documentary called Earthlings... and I still cant remove those images from my head. I now see all sorts of meat with different eyes :(Fabricio
    • ;)

For me was having to help my parents with the pig, rabbits and chickens. All the way. Then I heard Meat is Murder and here I am.
      oey
    • Every year that passed, every article i read about animal rights, about nutrition, about climate...was always sure about my decision.oey
    • I don't preach, I don't feel morally superior...I just do it cause it's what I believe, I feel fit and healthy and I love it.oey
    • Yes, i remember man, you never preached :)Fabricio
    • I don't judge others and in the last three years i cooked fish and octopus for my friends like 5 or six times. And I didn't eat.oey
    • It doesn't bother me to handle fish do much. I do it once in a while for certain reasons. I don't touch meat at all and prefer to have separate cooking utensilsoey
    • right now I just need to find good replacements, protein wise. I know beans are good, just need to find more stuff...Fabricio
    • no chemicals, GMOs, pesticides or hebacides ?utopian
    • only when i go to parties and there's no other drugs.oey

I cook as much as I can when I have time and try to take time for it.
Besides soups and salads, I also do complex stuff, burguers, , traditional portuguese dishes in veggie/vegan fashion and...

    Feijoada Brasileira!!!
    Representa na Farofa!

    • <3 Farofa !!!Fabricio
    • I had a vegan burger made with shimeji and I gotta say, that was AWESOME!!!Fabricio

I'm not a vegetarian but I was for 11 years. I started eating meat when I started dating meat eaters that I also lived with.

I'm transitioning back slowly but I don't think I'll ever really deny myself anything I'm actually craving. I'll probably still have chicken stock in my soups. I won't freak out if there's a pepperoni on free pizza (c'mon its free pizza!). I started only eating fish and chicken on the weekends.

I eat mostly greens, grain and fruit during the week for all of my meals. My breakfast is usually barley, yogurt, nuts (in a bowl) and a half of an avocado. It's pretty filling. I also love eating salads for breakfast. Also, tofu and veggie scramble if I really want breakfast food. Getting a good start is key for energy throughout the day. When my breakfasts suck I'm fucking starving all day long. I snack on nuts (no jokes please) all day long. I get plenty of protein.

But once a month I really want chik-fil-a and I'm going to have it. I was never vegetarian for animal cruelty purposes (although animal cruelty sucks) It was more about my overall health. So having a day or two a week where you can have what you want makes the weeks pass easier as you transition. A lot of my cravings have fallen off in the last few months. I didn't have any issues with my stomach or digestion because I've been doing this process slowly. In a couple months I'll probably have phased out purchasing any meat at the grocery or restaurants, even on my "cheat" days. Eventually, the extent of breaking my veg would probably be eating vegetarian pho that's still served in beef stock. Just don't think about it it's not that big of a deal.

    • +1 for the starting good at breakfastoey
    • Trying breakfasts that aren't traditional American style gives you so many options.shellie

This blackened mushroom burger with salsa and quac at taco loco in Laguna Beach ca convinced me to go vegetarian when I was a 14. I had to have this a few times a week. Potato tacos were also good. Chopped potato seasoned like meat and all the other expected toppings. Even meat eating friends won't miss it if you're making it for other people.

They also had really amazing vegan cookies and that's when I figured out tofu is a great substitute in baking. I started to experiment in the kitchen after that.

    • That looks very nice!
I also tried shimeji burger, is sooo good!
