If you had an idea and subsequently found out it had already been done, would you continue with piece of work (from a personal point to see how it turns out??); or, do you not bother?

Depends on how similar the ideas are, but if you can do something different with it, do it. And someone will point out that there are no new ideas.

I'm not saying to rip it off or anything.... what i'm saying is I want you to directly copy someone else's ideas and intellectual property.

i do thumbnails for posters and discover i'm just ripping something else off all the time. into the trash they go, unless i can switch it up substantially

If you want to do it, do it. If you are worried about what people are going to say about what you make, you have other problems.

You have two options: continue or find a new idea.

You probably heard "It's already been done"
Well who gives a shit, GO FOR IT! as long as you make it better.

Sketch it out on paper...drop trou, and then touch the paper to your balls. If it sticks there, then move forward. If it falls away, move on to another idea.

Fair game if you spotted the other idea after the fact.

Everything has been done, but not your way. Do it.

i say fair game to plug onwards, but personally i lose all steam when that happens. My passion to work on something comes from me feeling like im breaking ground even in some trivial way. If something I thought was 'my own' turns out to have happened somewhere before, i lose all inspiration to even want to move forward with it, and it becomes a complete chore to even try.
