Has anyone else had a housing that leaked?
Customer service was not very cool in insinuating it was my fault. Only had cam for six months. Does anyone know of better solution to GoPro?

I work with a lot of people that go through gopro's like paris hilton goes through d*cks, and they all love them. I only had one and I used it underwater a couple times w no problem and I had mine for nearly a year.
Water housing is a sensitive thing, you must leave it closed even when not in use, because if something like dirt or even hair comes near the rubber, theres a chance that this can help water to leak the next time you use it, but this applies to any photo housing.
I have read about this before I got mine, so I always kept it closed.
On the other hand, it could've been just bad luck and the case was defective, in which case I recommend you try again w customer service (try over the phone and skip the first person that talks to you and ask to speak to a manager) I've heard their customer support is even better than their products, and if it only been 6 months they should give you some sort of warranty.
Good luck man!

big question - did it say to keep it closed?

I'm not sure if that's on the instructions or not to be honest, I read about this on some blog way before than the gopros existed, and that kinda kept on my mind for some reason, not sure if that is the reason I didn't have problems w the housing, but that's what I've been doing. You could try wiping the rubber to clean it a bit, but my guess now it's too late huh? if something tiny like a little stone (the ones that you might drag to your house on your shoe for example) gets caught on the rubber, that can create some sort of dent, that lets water flow and it's already ruined.
- It's not in the manual but it follows the same reasoning behind always having a lens or cap on your camera body.CyBrainX

yeah too late - soaked. I hope they are cool about it. But I will make sure that I highlight the copy, or make a point about handling for scuba use.

havent had it leak yet but every time i take it in the water im really careful as pretty much anything on that little white gasket can break the seal. + seals will harden up after time then their useless, what ive leaned in my scuba equipment specialist class is put a small layer of fresh silicone on your seals and try not to keep your case closed all the time as it will compress your seal permanently after time.

Do I really want one? Thinking of picking up a white edition to wear on the moto, take on the water this summer, etc. Any reason I should spend another $200 on the black? The 720p 60fps is about all I'm interested in anyway. From what I read, the app works as a viewfinder for the white as well so I'm thinking this will be good.
- get the HDR-AS15 it's on sale. $169, i think. REC 1080p. Check out store.sony.com (action cam)akrok

Any updates canoe? I'm thinking about getting a white or silver to shoot some summer surfing.

I have one and although it does everything advertised, I'm very frustrated with the general user experience. There are tons of idiosyncracies and fuckups happen all the time. All the time. If you don't use it all the time it's hard to remember all of them.

My daughter is really into her surfing. She's 12 and absolutely loves it. She's also loves her photography and I'm thinking of getting her a GoPro.
I'm not much of a camera aficionado so don't have a great knowledge in the differences between the White, Silver and Black editions.
The white is a lot cheaper...does this take good quality video?

I have Hero 3 Black. Being used to shoot 720p with Canon 5D Mk2, the quality is unimpressive. It's a toy, with fixed focus, the video is plasticky, and so on. The advantage is you can put the camera in places you wouldn't ever put your 5D in.
I don't remember exact differences between models. For a 12 year old's surfing shots, I'd expect White to be good enough. She won't be using iPhone remote control in the water, or shoot in low light I suppose.
There'll be accessories to spend on: harnesses, mount kits, SD cards, hard drives to store all the material, batteries, LCD back, etc. BTW, third-party mount kits on ebay are as good as original and you'll save a lot.
I never used White or Silver myself though. Just wanted to say, if you're dissatisfied with their quality, you'll likely be underwhelmed with Black too.

- yes, and I LOVE it!!! definitely worth itProjectile
- you need one that locks up though. I got a cheapie and it swivels with the weightProjectile
- which cheap one did you buy?
The one i'm thinking is £27 and extends to 480mmgoldieboy

I just used the tripod mount, an old aluminium tripod center column, duct tape and a wristband to make the extension, the extra radius and the possibility to point at you in action is a welcome advantage.

^ I saw a guy riding around on his skateboard with one of them the other day and he got a quick cheeky filming of my dog while rolling past.
But yeah, I want one! I'm assuming you guys have heard about the 4K one? I'm a bit confused by it though...its 4k res but has 15fps? soooo that would mean it plays back all joggy?

For other solutions, Contour have waterproof products.
http://contour.com/collections/c…I have the Contour +2 and love it. Used it with the waterproof case with no problems.
Video quality is good, better battery life and convenient ON/OFF button system.

I recently went skiing with mine. It was raining through most of the day and the case worked fine. I also use these to help with condensation. http://gopro.com/camera-accessor…

I'm about to buy my first one soon. I don't have a lot of experience in filming or postpro, so which one to buy and what gear?
I want to record:
- Mountainbike-Sessions
- Catamaran/Boating stuff
- Maybe a dji phantom drone with a gimbal
- Daily action stuff as snowboarding or swimmingSo please qbn, recommend some gear and give me some starter tips :) Budgted is 1.5 to 2k for everything, but I'm pleased with a low level solution for starting
- CyBrainX0
GoPro accessories can add up a bit but you'll still be safely under budget with the possible exception of the drone. Here's one example. Read the comments for more links.

I heard that in the Michael Schumacker accident, where he got his head smashed in while skiing, and is now in awful shape, that he was wearing a helmet. But, that what happened was he had a GoPro attached to his helmet, and in the accident that went through the helmet and injured him. Any truth to that?
