Yeah right. They're the one place around here that sells Obey and Hawkings McGill, both of which fit me perfectly. As long as they're not raping cats with flaming knives, count me out.

Wait, nothing in the rant on that website actually says that they employ child labour, just that they haven't "publicly addressed" it. Until they can prove that Urban Outfitters knowingly use suppliers who use forced child labour and ignore it, then this elicits a giant *yawn* from me. Lack of public acknowledgement /= guilty.

Just more "KONY 2012" bullshit trying to turn us into liberal communists!
- Yes, because KONY2012 was sponsored by rightwing xtian organizations...TheBlueOne
- ..to put political pressure to put US military in Uganda.
TheBlueOne - Yes, utterly lefty commie moves there. You shine on, you crazy diamond.TheBlueOne
- You're map of reality is upside down btw.TheBlueOne
- this all commie talk is so 60's. Get over with it, no one is becoming communists.Beeswax

fuck yeah, don't sign. think if they actually would do something about it. that would be horrible.
- i_monk0
UO is owned by a hardcore rightwinger, and they regularly steal designs and sell them without credit or profiting the designer.

- Just business you see. The market is efficient that way.TheBlueOne

I Boycotted them when they ripped Johnny Cupcakes way back when. I hate that place so much, it's a bunch of pop kitsch bullshit!
- To be fair, Johnny Cupcakes is pretty lame and is entirely derivative themselves.randomname
- Which makes it even more lame for UO to riprandomname
- spot130
Guess what, it's not just UO who use child labour, it's basically every competitive clothing company in the world from LULU Lemon to Tommy Hilfiger. Unless you grow the cotton, how do you really know who picked it? And if you had to pay an Ammerrican to pick it, your t-shirt would cost $400.
- This is no way near the truth.Centigrade
- I mean about the cost of US made clothing.Centigrade
- I'm exaggerating and since your in the clothing business I'll defer to you on this, but it seems likely that the free market would put pressure on companies to find the cheapest labourspot13
- put pressure on companies to find the cheapest labourspot13
- For sure it does. I regularly get offered 25c shirts... but I know they were probably made by kids, so I steer clear.Centigrade
- only because we have let our government dictate the standard of living.teh

Urban Outfitters sucks anyway

Boycott everything!
Only buy clothes made in america from thrift stores.
- mg330
dbloc,
Define "sucks." Do you mean you wouldn't by any of the stuff they sell, or, you just wouldn't buy it in their store? There are plenty of brands there sold in a variety of stores, and styles that are not as trendy as some of the stuff they sell. All the Navajo print stuff that's been in there for more than a year is disgusting, but they consistently have some wardrobe staples I have no problem buying there (Alternative Earth t-shirts, Levis, Vans shoes, Hawkings McGill oxford shirts, stuff like that), none of which scream "hipster" or "trend-whore."
- anytime I've ever walked in that store I've walked out with nothing. Just not my style.dbloc
- They make Levi's look like a hipster brand.randomname
- prophetone0
here's a thought, don't give them $ instead. i think that'll speak louder than any petition. now where do i get myself a $400 t-shirt?
- monospaced0
I think it sucks too, dbloc. The collection is so trendy, and tries SO hard at being original, that if you buy something there you're just being unoriginal. That cool shirt you have isn't as cool when everyone else has it, and the same goes for the "hand made" rug/scarf/pillow cover or interesting book adorning their shelves. It's like the IKEA/Gap of alternative hipster, and therefore, it sucks by default.

Urban Outfitters stocks clothing by a number of different brands. Is their in-house brand, BDG, the company that uses child labor in their clothing, or one of the brands that UO carries? Or is it simply the fact that UO hasn't come out against child labor that's the issue here? A bit confusing.
- all anyone asks before you post here is that you take 30 seconds and READ the linkmonospaced
- that way you don't have to ask a stupid questionmonospaced
- necromation0
I would never shop there regardless of what shit they committed.
- mg330
mono and dbloc,
I agree, there is some trendy stuff there that's really gross. But I wouldn't discount the store entirely because of that. Season in and season out there are a number of things they sell that are not trendy. Do you guys not wear jeans? They have completely un-trendy jeans there constantly. There's plenty of stuff there that is the perfect uniform for college-aged hipster tools, but there are plenty of un-trendy staples there too.
Not trying to force you guys to even step foot in one... just want to make the point that it's not all trendy graphic tees and tight cutoff shorts.
- I hear ya, it was a generalized statement really about their whole niche marketingmonospaced

Unfortunately Urban Outfitters does copy and xerox concepts from young up and comers. Happened to my friends sock company. Everything was going fine, they approached him with a deal which was a complete low ball offer, he would have lost money. After he refused they just re-created his work and put it on the shelves. He couldn't afford a lawyer.
