I honestly used to like UO back in the day...they actually carried stuff that I would wear, but things have changed over the years. Not trying to say that I hate everything in the store or the store itself. I'd just rather hit up another place with something more my style.

It would be interesting to know how much more everything would cost without third world labor. Would the difference really price consumers out of a lot of products or is it just a matter of corps padding their bottom line.
- a lot of products are still made in the US and the prices are nearly the samemoldero
- i was going to use craftsman tools as an example but i heard they went to the dark sidemoldero
- <but their prices are the same now anyway, the only ones benefiting are the ownersmoldero
- but not really since Americans have less jobs/money to buy their toolsmoldero
- outsourcing was the worst idea based on nothing but greed.moldero
- Very few labels can invest in a container full of t-shirts, meaning it's just as cheap to get US made.Centigrade

I never understood why people like the store anyways? Or why they try so hard.
They sell crappy tees, OBEY, and overpriced socks. Then the good stuff is Levi's, Pendleton, and product you can get a Macy's.
They market themselves as a hip, alternative retailer, but really, at least for the men's stuff, you can get that stuff anywhere.

Some friends of friends had their product ripped by urban outfitters.

their clothing is so boring guys, it makes so easier for me to boycott them. who wants to wear that shit? graphic designers should know better than that!
reason #1 why to boycott their company: http://images.urbanoutfitters.co…
get some grownup clothing
- So boycott ALL their clothing because of some of their clothing. Makes sense.mg33
- ABSOLUTELY!ohhhhhsnap
- boycott their stuff because on top of all the other BS the folks at the top are a bunch of racist homophobes.ohhhhhsnap

In the UK, Urban Outfitters have a "Vintage" section in each store.
This stuff is exactly the same that you can get at second hand stores or charity shops nearby except the prices are five to ten fold!
ANYONE who spends money in this department of UO should get a free kick in the groin. They do have SOME decent stuff in the rest of the store but a lot of it is overpriced - especially t-shirts. Some prices are a complete piss-take.
Their gadget section is pretty good for getting someone something a bit quirky/fun as a present.
Over the years theres been posts on qbn/newstoday and other design forums about UO ripping off designers/illustrators ideas for their tshirts. This definitely isn't cool! But it looks like a lot of other shops do this too :(

Can anybody summarise if this thread is about child labour or just a brand trying to hard to be cool?
If it is the first and you guys are truly against it, you better step off 80% of your clothes and stop using your computer, mobile and pretty much any gadget you've got.
My comment for child labour in China is that many Chinese people, specially the ones coming from impoverished areas see working on a factory as an improvement to their former lifestyle -as tough as this may sound.

It's silly to just target one brand.
This boycott reminds me of walking past Beyond Retro near Brick Lane on a sunday with anti-fur protesters...
Beyond Retro sells second hand fur products and because it's a popular store protesters gather round and harass the shop. I've never seen them go up to the stores on Bethnal Green Road that actively produce and sell new fur and leathers.
I also don't really understand how protesting against fur whilst wearing leather is not blatantly hypocritical - I often see the protesters in leather or with leather shoes.
Surely the boycott for child labour should happen at the factory level not at the shop where some of it ends up.
I don't shop at UO as I find it to be overpriced and plaid shirts, chinos and douchebag hats (I don't know what they're called - The little bobble hats that are too small to fit your head that Wally wears) aren't really my thing.
If you're really that bothered by child labour then you need to change your lifestyle so that you only purchase goods from places you know have ethical labour practices, rather than focusing on boycotting a small selection of ones you disagree with.
I also couldn't find where that article proved that Urban Outfitters uses child/slave labour.

Yeah, go do something that really will change the world, go "OCCUPY WALL STREET" instead, that'll really make a difference!
- or at least we get to see photos of you with tear gas sprayed in your eyes on the interweb.23kon
- I think Occupy Wallstreet and the 99% are a bunch of whiners and losers actually.animatedgif
