I live in nyc, but I was born and raised in Minneapolis and it's a great city. There's more than a handful of amazing agencies (Fallon, Duffy, Mono to name a few). Lots of music (first ave, turf club). Find a place to live around Uptown and stay away from the U. The winters are long and cold but there's still plenty to do. Where are you thinking of working?

Thinking about moving back. Anyone have links to any possible job leads? Most of the stuff online is super spammy. Any help would be appreciated.

great punk/music scene. great bars. winter: three times as long.

Was in Minneapolis in May for a business trip and was very underwhelmed. I found the women there to be rather ugly.

also just out of curiosity, if you know the area what area or areas is the best live in. Downtown? Areas with most bars or college close by...anything?

Awesome city for design and arts.
Crappy city for weather. The UofM is just north of downtown if you want to be around college chicks. Otherwise, Uptown (just SW of downtown) is the "hip & trendy" place to be.

It's retail here (Target, Best Buy, General Mills). Pretty decent design scene. UofM is here. Uptown in Minneapolis is popular with the kids, if you don't mind over paying everything. We have some solid agencies here. Great museums. We don't have mountains, but our north shore on Lake Superior is similar to the ocean. Summer has shifted from May to September. But sometimes it still stays warm (70) until November.

Minneapolis is awful. Target came in and whipped out all culture left.
Stay in San Diego, the food is better there.

I've been to Minneapolis and the downtown area is really cool. Also, a lot of music history 'round those parts (The Replacements, Husker Du, etc.).
Fuck it, try it out.

...if that doesn't pan out you can always move to Austin "SXSW" Texas.

Random city to have a good design scene.

jay pretty much covered it. it's a great city with a lot of stuff to do...but the winters suck.
Tons of agencies, both big and small, and a lot of corporate stuff as well. What do you do (print/web/mobile/all/none/etc), and how much experience do you have?
I currently live in uptown and love it. I would say the best areas to live will be around the chain of lakes (harriet, calhoun + isles) which is basically the uptown area. downtown is okay, but i would want to live there.

Art Direction and Design mostly Branding + Campaign work, Photo shoots, some web, lots of print. 7+ yrs experience
I would prob want to live somewhere there is a lot of action, stores, restaurants, bars. Coming from San Diego so it might be a tough sell for me. Worth looking into though. I have heard good stuff. Looks like lots of lofts. Is there an indie music scene? Dj music? Skate parks?

it's a great city, but yeah, the winters get old very quickly. just take a sunny vaca somewhere in jan or feb and it'll be a lot more tolerable. Beautiful in the summer though. It makes the winter's almost worth it.
Tons of design shops around town - a good number of larger agencies to keep said shops in business - depending on the place though, you may or may not work exclusively on mind-numbing target or general mills projects.
Local publications to get some cultural info:

i lived there for 4 years and loved it. Winters were crap, but the trade offs were worth it. MCAD lends nice design talent to the city. People are active and interested in the finer things in life. The lakes are beautiful. Good culture overall. Bit of a hidden gem in the Midwest.

I love MPLS with all my heart. Lived here almost 30 years.
I am leaving for a little while soon, but will miss it everyday.

So how many months a year is it too cold to do anything outside?

Awesome city. Shit Climate
I lived there for 10 years before moving. Pretty much agree with all the positive stuff that others have said. You can always find something to do there.
stoplying - if you are ever there again go for a walk around Lake Calhoun and then get back to me about the quality of the women

I moved away from Minneapolis about 7 months ago to San Francisco.
The city is overall pretty cool. It has a really high quality of life in terms of things to do, outdoors and people. There is a relatively strong design-scene with some really good smaller shops (I personally have distaste for the big ones there.) The Winter, while long provides a weird sense of community - you get to know people pretty well when all you want to go do after work is have some beers and food with the people from work and the neighborhood. I feel like for you it would be cool opportunity to check out. Some people move-in and stay for about two years, others move-in and stay forever.
