I moved away from Minneapolis about 7 months ago to San Francisco.
The city is overall pretty cool. It has a really high quality of life in terms of things to do, outdoors and people. There is a relatively strong design-scene with some really good smaller shops (I personally have distaste for the big ones there.) The Winter, while long provides a weird sense of community - you get to know people pretty well when all you want to go do after work is have some beers and food with the people from work and the neighborhood. I feel like for you it would be cool opportunity to check out. Some people move-in and stay for about two years, others move-in and stay forever.
