Creating a logo for a pre-gig VIP area, could be any genre of band/event so needs to be generic.
has anyone got any examples of good logos that have an 'elite/special' feel maybe even abstract shaped marks that only people 'in the know' are privy to... (e.g. freemasons or secret societies)...

if it's that VIP it needs no logo...think about it
- i'm sure the client will pay me for that!indian_pole
- Everyone knows that the most exclusive places are unmarkedmonospaced
- its not that exclusive, it's a product, just needs to appear 'exclusive'indian_pole
- it's a product? I thought it was just a room, or "area"monospaced
- yes but you pay money to be in it.indian_pole
- so you don't have to be "in the know," or "privy" to shit. you just have to cough up the cash.monospaced
- EXACTLYindian_pole
- And this logo will be very visible, right? Flyers, etc? How is this secret?monospaced
- I'm not joking. Go anti-identity.monospaced
- dude. its not secret, it is to appear 'secret', if it was secret i wouldnt be designing a logo would i??indian_pole
- hey, it was YOUR choice of words, not mine!monospaced
- anti-identity?

I feel you're overunderthinking this - whatever solution you come up with will need to fit into your Band's existing branding and that of the venue. Adding in extraneous, seemingly nonsensical elements will only confuse the punters.
Assuming it's compatible, I'd stick with something like an elegant Roman text, bound by horizontal rulers, saying 'specialre-re area' or something. Research Golf, Polo and Capital events.
If you want to go batshit ca-razy, add an image of a key in.
- But then, maybe not.
It's hard to tell outwith context.detritus - i'm not designing anything yet i'm just looking for inspiration. only i have read the brief, no such thing as over-thinking at this stage.indian_pole

give it a metallic/platinum feel and keep the type elegant. over done but it works

option a
go for the extremely tacky wanna-be-exclusive bad logosoption b
type whatever name you fancy in a neat roman. add plenty of expensive substrates to print on, and some black pepper for a final kick.voila!
said that if you want to do some research, check any of the many members' clubs here in London (we've got plenty).

you guys are killing me. i'm just researching, don't want any ideas on how to design the logo.
ok so maybe doesn't have to be secret or even vip related. bad choice of words on my part. just special/elite/premium/iconic marks are what i'm looking into. another example is the star trek logo (not secret but elite and semi-abstract)

I'm sorry I was a dick up there. But I still stand by my anti-identity. People don't want to go into an area that is marketed as exclusive, they just want it to be.
That being said, it could be a design direction. A black rectangle could represent an unmarked door, for example.

it's exclusive/secret in the sense that only a few people get to go, but it might on occasion be as commercial as a 'strictly come dancing' pre-show event...
the client very much wants an identity from the brief, and since this is a pitch, me rocking up with a 'how about no identity' approach is unlikely to impress, although i'm all for it as a secondary route, i need to answer the brief initially.

A few identities here that i think fit with what you're talking about — Antaar, Caviar, Ruus & Vabamets.
- nice, the cloakroom mark is good too. cheersindian_pole
- yeah cloakroom very nice too. works well as a repeat patternjimzy

my missus organises "exclusive" soirees a lot and to be honest understated is best. Less is more and all that. People who want to be exclusive don't want to be "showy" - even tho that's exactly what they're doing... - a simple mark seems to work best.
but, saying that her best event that went for whole fashion week was to theme nights, her invites were handing out playing cards. one night was hearts, one spades, clubs, diamonds...
she has also used dominoes, lego pieces and even monopoly houses and hotels were once used as currency in the bar for a real estate agents conference for example... simple yet exclusive for that one night only.
best exclusive underground parties i ever went to was themed by "the black sheep" - in a beautiful envelope sealed with an image of a sheep in black wax you got a length of black wool in the mail which depending on its length got you into certain areas of the event...
think sideways :)
- black sheep thing sounds cool.indian_pole

- wax seals are fucking awesomerascuache
- i'm thinking sideways from now on!sea_sea

I'm so pleased you didn't say think outside the box. Sick that phrase.
