i met the best girl in my life 13yrs ago - 1997
5 weeks after meeting her and falling in love i got the job of my dreams and i left, upped sticks, and i moved to ny [ from england ]
bit of a shock obviously - we spent 9 months having one phone call a week [ no im/fb/texting back then ] - we got on ok - i was behaving myself - slowly but surely she visited nyc and i got back to the uk as much as i could and all cool - we saw each other for 2weeks evry 3-4months - this lasted 2.5 years....
in 2000 we decided to get married - part for reasons for her visa part coz we knew we had to do it for us - but we knew i was right - we still spent 2000 - 2002 living apart - me in SF by then - her in the UK, we still knew it was right - in 2003 she finally moved in with me - and the very next year we moved to OZ - and only in 2005 we realised we had finally spent the same amount of time together as we had apart - anyway...
on the 19th of may 2010 - in two weeks time - its our 10th wedding anniversary.
love is strong.

I did long distance with one guys for 4 years,and I did it badly- lots of drama, lots of complications, 2 'I need some space', 2 break ups, other guys......
Our 15th wedding anniversary is next week.

call or skype or something similar every night....
when we were still in school a very very long time ago, my girlfriend (now wife) went away for 3rd year to Quebec City (i lived in Toronto) which is about (roughly) 9 or so hours away....
I was able to visit every few months, but it was difficult....but we did call each other just about every single night around 10pm to tell each other about the day we'd had, type of thing...made a big difference...
it was a long, long year though....
but all's well that ends well, as they say...and much like _me_ that posted above, my wife and I have been married for close to 11 years now, and were dating for about 6 years before that... (hell, even when we dated, we lived in difference city's most of the time...we only got to see each other once a week/two weeks or so...lol....
if you know it's 'the one' you can put up with just about anything....

Hang in there, man - today, like in about eight hours, I begin my trip home after two years living 13 time zones apart from family and friends. Looking forward to it and you will, too - love is strong.
