call or skype or something similar every night....
when we were still in school a very very long time ago, my girlfriend (now wife) went away for 3rd year to Quebec City (i lived in Toronto) which is about (roughly) 9 or so hours away....
I was able to visit every few months, but it was difficult....but we did call each other just about every single night around 10pm to tell each other about the day we'd had, type of thing...made a big difference...
it was a long, long year though....
but all's well that ends well, as they say...and much like _me_ that posted above, my wife and I have been married for close to 11 years now, and were dating for about 6 years before that... (hell, even when we dated, we lived in difference city's most of the time...we only got to see each other once a week/two weeks or so...lol....
if you know it's 'the one' you can put up with just about anything....
