i'd like to direct the court's attention to the case of Who really v. Gives a fuck
- I second this. But apparently we should be very concerned.flashbender
- i'm suddenly very concerned at my own lack of concern7point34

I don't mind the use of Verdana in all caps for heads on the web, but it really looks bad in the promotional text, where there are different font sizes, mixed cases, numbers, etc. Futura's geometric forms worked well in those instances.

Shh...
We've secretly replaced Ikea's font with a similar but different typeface. Let's see if anyone notices.
- Ha. Well played. Now time for a heavenly coffee, says Chock Fulla Nuts.TheBlueOne
- Ikea's coffee is better than FolgersJosev

The truth is, Verdana looks like dogshit when printed. All caps, mixed cases, mixed sizes: still dog shit.

If IKEA were worried about the brand consistency across web and print, why not go a little further and make a switch to Helvetica. I know, I know, everyone uses Helv, but atleast it doesn't look like a crappy 'default' font...

i think i threw up a little...Coffeemaker - ...7point34
- isn't it a default font on macs?7point34
- you know what I mean, Helvetica can stand to be used across print AND web. i just don't see Verdana as a non-screen font.Not_Just_Another
- and as for 'brand consistency'... isn't that why they made the change? the print catalogues didn't look like the website?Not_Just_Another
- dude, helvetica sucks on the web. arial performs MUCH better in small sizes...Coffeemaker

I feel for the Irish, they never fully experienced the Futura Ikea. The first Ikea store in Ireland was opened a month ago.

Thats very stupid from a design perspective and almost kind of clever from a marketing perspective.

it's pretty stupid to change to verdana, much less over the idea that you want your web brand to match your print brand. designing for the web is still in it's infancy; CSS3 is still coming, which i am sure will be the next step in what will be many to allow for the use of any typeface, cross-browser, cross-platform.
we're not there yet, but i am sure the internet will get there, and pretty soon. it's an awfully shortsighted thing to do, rebrand to a poor typeface due to a temporary lack of technology. the ways to do this ARE being developed, and it's a shame to see something like this happen.
- what does this have to do with CSS?7point34
- it's ability to render futuraversion3
