Much like the furniture. It needs a lot of assembly to make it look good.

Call me weird, but i honestly think, and i am serious, that Comic Sans could actually work quite well. it's unambitious, playful and accessible.
and you need to think masses when you talk IKEA. that example wasn't so crazy above....

Millions of people rely on the good sense and judgment of the style gurus at Ikea to bring just a touch of taste and class into their frankly dismal lives.
I honestly believe this.
Just one or 2 good pieces can really add something to a room, to someone life, it is a joy beyond the sum of its parts to contemplate something of fine design, it's the battle we fight everyday, the good fight against mediocrity, to bring forth essence and tone and value in line, color and placement - ours is the music of the curve, the rhythm and power of the straight, the right - the shaping of space and time and self itself - good design illuminates the life and world around it, provides an oasis of something calm and focussed, an eternal moment of truth in the arm of a vintage chair, or the leg of a table. I honestly believe Ikea brings this to people, millions of tiny pleasured moments around the world, at a low low price....so why...oh why, would some cunt start printing Verdana ? Have they ever ever printed a flight booking off a webpage, and thought 'fuck me, that looks really clumsy and unbalanced....being a designer, and having eyes and a brain, I can instantly see that this is a nasty nasty work shy shit of typeface that can only be seen in public very small'. Cause if they didn't, they need shooting, and if they did, they're just cunts.

Visited IKEA Lisbon store for the first time 3 weeks ago. Apart from finding a neat solar-powered desk lamp, I felt a bit disappointed. I thought they were going to keep with some interesting furniture designs like they had at first, but it doesn't look any different from any other store of the same kind now.

"We've heard a lot about IKEA but never came," said Luo, 23. "I like the simplicity. My mom liked the food. We'll hang out for a while."

I know this is yesterdays news...just thought it was cool that my place of employment has gotten in on the talk:

agree:
"If Ikea had used Verdana only for the text sizes, and a
different typeface for display, or vice-versa, the flap
might never have occurred, because the typographic image
would have been more complex, more nuanced, and less
likely to attract or arouse strong criticism."

Well, lads as i see things look like this.
Ikea synonym for low-budget furniture. Expanding market to eastern hemisphere. Low-budged costumer of furniture probably have low-budget computer. Verdana - system font on most OS. And thats it.

What font says about them:
Instead of selling inexpensive design they now sell cheap shit
