WT? Is wrong with this dude. Maybe I'm paying more attention to politics now, but shit why is this dude in power? I just do not get it.

It makes me so angry that people have to live under his rule same with other countries like Cuba.

    • Ask GeorgesII. He seems to think that people should just be able to do whatever they want in this world.CygnusZero4

The area of concern really is if NK sells the nuclear material to rogue elements and agents. That's it. Any other threat of force on their side is pure bluster to boost whataever propaganda at home serves the junta's interests. I am sure that China through back channels has told them "Don't expect anything from us, you fruitcakes. And if you get Japan to re-militarize with your crazy talk we are going to fuck you nine ways from Sunday..." Sure, NK could make life fucking miserable for the South for a few weeks, thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands could be potentially killed, but it would be a local event (<-- that's my evil, yet truthful real politik voice speaking). Who knows, maybe Seoul ould go up in a nuclear fireball, but NK would be literally bombed back to the stone age at the end of the first week, bc the US wouldn't and can't commit troops to the ground there, so it'd be all airstrikes, and it would make what happened in Iraq a game of patty cake. Why? bc a) at this point no one would actually give a shit about the civilian NK population and b) there is no press anywhere in the country to say "Oh, look at the poor villagers getting hit with the stray smart bomb..."

Seems like every president had a different villain

    Obama vs N. Korea
    Bush vs. Iraq
    Clinton vs. someone
    Bush Sr. vs Iraq
    Reagan vs Russia
    Carter vs Cuba

When does it all end? Stop the insanity. BTW, my list is probably inaccurate.

    • Clinton vs. someone HAHAHAHAOrbit

I don't get that warrior spirit that some designers here have,
most of my soldier friends in korea did go into the army so they could go to university and do a patriotic act, noone did it because they wanted to kill north korean,

there's a lightness in the debate here that is very very scary, because no one is taking in account the number of south korean that still have relative up north and want to resolve this situation "peacefully". my dad coworker was a kid when the war happened, he's luck was to find himself on the good side of border when korea was sliced in two, all his life he combated peacefully to get the two korea reunited, he died 4 years ago but one thing he told me is that "was should never be the solution for anything", you can't bomb another country only because you want to (*looks at irak), SK have sovereignty over there territory and japan, china will never let you attack from there.

you can be gun happy and laugh about it, but don't consider individuals as collaterals its just plain wrong and moronic,

    • Im not saying we need to go over there and wipe them all out, just Kim, and you jumped on me for that.CygnusZero4
    • Logisitically, how do you do that, call Chuck Norris?DrBombay
    • It can be done. There were many people in Hitlers own ranks that wanted him dead, and tried.CygnusZero4

cignus, did anyone asked publicly for the assassination of Pres. Bush?
you can disagree with someone but as you pointed yourself, there's an organisation that was created exactly to take care of this situation "the United Nations", so far I never heard anyone taking the pulpit and asking loudly for the assassination of president/dictator.
you based your entire rant on the rules of law, but you're are acting in a lawless manner and thats where you lost me.

TBO on the Israel nuke debate, its easy they should play by the rules too, they've been sanctioned 66 by the UN and everytime the US vetoed the votes, are you going to ignore this too?

    • So what do you do, leave it alone and let him do whatever he wants? That's wise.CygnusZero4

Last I checked Israel wasn't testing nuclear weapons nor flinging missiles all over the place, nor threatening shipping in it's area.

Look, I am basically an anti-zionist, which is a whole 'nother thread, but there is no way you can compare the geo-political situation between NK and Israel. You might not like Israel, but you can't argue it's a working democracy. NK is a differnet kettle of fish and you muddy the waters by comparing the two...it's sloppy rationalizing frankly. And your argument is strong enough without it.

In self defense it would be like saying, what are my options in taking out the meth addict with the bat that wants my wallet versus how do I deal with my crazy cousin who had too much to drink and is being a belligerent dick. In the former case you would utilize deadly force, in the second, not so much.

    • Dont argue with GeorgesII. He's in the same place Kim Jong Il is, believe people can do whatever they want. You cant win.CygnusZero4
    • win.CygnusZero4
  • DrBombay0

Cygnus. So there are rules about testing nuclear weapons. Are there not also rules about nations asassinating (sp) other nation's leaders?

Seems like a bit of a conflict in your definition of rules, no?

  • GeorgesII0

yeah but we both know TBO that NK is doing this just to get attention,
10 years ago during the visit of Colin powell in Japan they tested some poor looking missile that crashed in the see of Japan,

they have more chance of bombing themselves with their own weapon then actually do some real damage, nuclear or not,
I ask again, even if you want to, how are you going to attack them, from where?

    • seaGeorgesII
    • There technology has gotten better, and the US basically can employ FSD on NK at will...TheBlueOne

Not a fan of King Jong Il. but the racism that I see in US media a lot of times when they portray the guy is disgusting.

It's like people use this one guy as an excuse to crank out all the racist Asian stereotypes they've been waiting to use.

Georgesll - brother, I'm not arguing with you. There is no way the US would initiate combat operations on the ground in Korea. Zero. Not going to happen, for many reasons. It wouldn't be in our interests in any way, shape or form. All I'm saying is IF the NK initiated it, it would be a short, hot, quick mess with the NK's on the losing end of the stick and with lots of damage and casualties on the SK side of the border.

The main interest for the US is keeping SK and Japan safe from NK aggression and containing any flow of nuclear materials out of NK. Period.

here's a statement from North Korea's foreign ministry
    --
Pyongyang, May 29 (KCNA) — A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday as regards the UNSC’s threat to put additional sanctions against the DPRK, terming its successful nuclear test a violation of the UNSC Resolution 1718.

Over the past several decades, the DPRK has made every possible effort for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, but the U.S., instead of seeking a substantial removal of nuclear threats, has steadily increased the level of pressure upon the DPRK and it has eventually brought even the six-party talks to collapse in wanton violation of the principles of respect for the sovereignty and sovereign equality, the underlying spirits of the September 19 Joint Statement, over the DPRK’s launch of satellite, the universally recognized right of each state, the statement noted, and said:

At present, some countries were shocked at the news of the DPRK’s second nuclear test. But an exceptional act has its exceptional reason.

The recent nuclear test conducted by the DPRK is the 2054th one on the earth.

The five permanent members of the UNSC have conducted 99.99 percent of all the nuclear tests.

Those countries have posed the biggest nuclear threats to the world. But they took issue with our first nuclear test, which was conducted in October 2006 as a self-defensive measure to cope with increased nuclear threats by the U.S., terming it a “threat to the international peace” and adopted the sanctions resolution against the DPRK. This is exactly the UNSC Resolution 1718.

if you explore the source of the article you'll see the normal date on top but also Juche 89 ( which is the 89th anniversary of the death of Kim il sung, they decided to use their own time paradox 89 years ago, that is sad)
